I don't know what it is but SOMETHING has to get done here. The 20 game mark is big and they would still be under .500 even with a 5 game winning streak.
You can't pin everything on the coaching but they really aren't doing themselves any favors. Why in the world are Tallinder and Greene on the same pairing? Am I just seeing things or is that not a flat out awful pairing? They're both so weak on the puck and yet you still put them together? Constant turnovers and getting pinned in the zone. They have been horrible together. The PP....No reason to even comment on it. It should just be taken out to pasture at this point. Wtf is the plan out there? I'm not saying that nothing good is happening. For the most part the Devils played very well last night. But there are always some head scratching things going on.
What it comes down to is that the top players MUST produce. I like the drive and work ethic of the rookies, Vasyunov and Mills especially, but something has to give with the veterans. They're just not executing the way they need to. Can all of these struggles be due to the fact that we don't have a true #1 puck mover? I don't buy that. I feel it has more to do with a lack of smarts/ focus and not enough bearing down. So is it a problem that stems from the directions of the coaches or are the vets just not capable or unwilling to buy in? You can't ignore the injuries but the team should really be better then this. They're getting worse results then teams with far less talent. Sure, talent can only take you so far but something is just not right here. They're seriously running out of time to figure it out.
