In case you missed it during Monday's 2-1 Ranger win over Calgary, Marc Staal caught Matt Stajan flush with a clean shoulder KOing the Flame center with 10:21 left in the third. As Stajan makes a backhand pass with his head down, the fourth-year Ranger defenseman follows through with a left shoulder across the ex-Leaf's right shoulder, connecting with the chin. The refs got it correct not calling a penalty on the play which in no way was malicious. Simply put, Staal caught him and made certain it was from the front. No question it was lethal. However, there was nothing wrong with it and reminded us of classic Scott Stevens across the Hudson.

Stajan is out for tonight.
The wind blew ferociously making the icy sky feel even colder. And then a few white snow flakes floated down from heaven creating a winter wonderland.

Figures I finally get comments on my piece and it's about the Rangers.

Great hit. Must've read Eric Lindros's self-help book "Crossing the Blueline While Admiring Your Skate Laces" before the game.

You don't see these too often.

I know that Stajan should had kept his head up but I think the hit is not exactly a North-South hit.Staal wasn't exactly coming from the front side...he kind of redirected himself at the last second.

I'd say a clean hit.

Good, clean hit. Stajan had his head turned, that's his fault.

I think any hit above the knees should be legal, vulnerable or not. It's a physical game, man up.

Stajan is out for tonight.

You could even say -- as did Micheletti -- that it was a left-shoulder-to-left-shoulder hit.

Hate the Rangers, but gotta give credit where it's due. That was a friggin awesome hit. Glad it wasn't one of ours on the receiving end.
