hilarious that this debate is still going on. public behavior has far less effect on your kids than your own behavior does. if your kid turns into a cursing machine, they're not learning it at a hockey game, they're learning it because that's how you converse at home, and when he/she is in the stage of learning how to speak, that's all the kid ever hears.

You're using a bit of a slippery slope argument by saying that kids pick up these words from their parents. They pick it up from many many places, but because they're probably going to exposed to it doesn't give you a free pass to indulge in profanity-laden tirades.
And kids may not be able to sit down for 5 seconds but that's because they're kids. They're in a completely different stage of development than you. What's your excuse?

I see your point about children being the bane of enjoyment. To which you could also complain about if need be...But who really wants to be the a$$hole who doesnt let kids be kids? And while I totally agree that bad and good behavior start at home, it's not always the case. My parents never cussed, but I've become a cussing machine...Probably from other kids cussing and them hearing it at THEIR houses. But like carpathian and martyis said, you are completely missing the point. There is definitely a difference of saying "what a sh!tty goal" outloud to yourself and friends, and screaming "AVERY YOU'RE A PEICE OF sh!t!!" with the attempt that he will actually hear you and care what you think.

there's just as many obnoxious children as there are obnoxious adults. I went to the Buffalo Kovy SO debacle immediately before I drove down to Florida, and had the privilage of sitting next to a bunch of rugrats who ran all over the place (since the row was pretty empty), shrieked like a cat on fire, and coughed all over me the entire game, they sounded diseased. sure enough, I was sick virtually the entire time I was gone.

the whole world shouldn't stop because of your children. that's why I brought up the row 8 upstairs example. anyone who brought kids up there is either ignorant of the situation, or a damned fool.

then you have people here complaining about in-building decorum, whose entire gimmick on here is cursing and ranting and screaming and carrying on as much as humanly possible. yeah, I'm sure that's all repressed in their heads and only comes out when they're typing

I think this is the best point made, and what I've been trying to say. I'm not a potty mouth, especially in front of my little brother, but I've yelled "bullsh!t!" about a call before, etc etc. I know that it's a hockey game, not an ice-dancing show -- and going in, when I'm taking my brother, I should at least be aware that the language isn't going to be 100% PG rated. If someone yells "sh!t!" after a goal, it happens, whatever. When someone is standing up and screaming at the top of his lungs "KILL CLARKSON. HE'S A PIECE OF sh!t. KILL THAT fvckER. HE STEALS OUR fvckING MONEY. KILL HIM. MURDER HIM!", that's where it becomes an issue. Maybe that shouldn't be grounds to throw him out of the arena, (even though it sounds like from Vic it is a rule they can enforce), but a warning from an usher or a "next time you're out of here" may shut him up and allow me and my brother the ability to enjoy the game.

I've had that too. And I agree with you, that it gets annoying. But kids are kids, they don't know better. An "adult" should know that belching curse words next to a 3 year old little girl and in a section that had a decent amount of children (including my 6 year old brother) is wrong.

It's not peeves, it general modes of conduct. Oh hey! There's a five year old with his Dad five feet away from me, maybe I shouldn't yell fvck tonight.

I don't have kids, but the important thing is that kids learn by what they see from Mom, Dad, their friends and television and although you may want to go live by yourself in some house in Montana the pure and simple fact is that like it or not you as an adult are an archetype by which future societies will base their outlook and behaviors upon.

If the kids are misbehaving and creating a disruption you have just as much right to have the staff warn them or their parents to curb their behavior as the person who asked staff to talk about the fvck guy.

We do do a lot of cursing and silly things on this site but we're also being overseen by moderators who can suspend or ban us for inappropriate content and behavior on this site. We also have a high filter system for curse words on here. We're also not really in public and I don't think anyone on here is really that young.

You're arguing a moot point. As a business the Devils and the Rock have the right to ask anyone they feel is a disturbance to leave. If you mutter a curseword under your breath or are letting the expletives fly in a private conversation to my friends at the game and someone's kid walks by and overhears it then that's fine, it happens. However, if you're standing yelling "fvck You, David Clarkson" so that practically eveyone in your section and their kids can hear it then that's an issue and if the Rock's staff wants to throw you out for that then they're well within their rights to do so. Their goal is to get as many people, especially families, to keep coming back to a friendly environment and you're interfering with their ability to retain that image. The Prudential Arena and society in general is arguing apples and oranges. As a teacher I feel that there are a plethora of things parents should be responsible for; protecting them is a given. A private business is not society. It is also your responsiblity as an adult and a participating member of society to be considerate of others.

Gonna keep this short cause of the Langs news but wanted to point out a couple things.

I understand that that the Devs can do what they want as a private business. I just disagree with the policy of kicking people out for screaming fvck Clarkson twice. It's hockey, it's emotion, cursing is involved. You want to use it to as a reason kick someone out that has been going over the line, fine. Kinda like a cop that gives out that ticket for something hanging on your rear view mirror to someone that is acting like a douche towards him. The rule is there but hardly enforced. There is a line, but standing up and yelling every now and then shouldn't be it.

So, are you saying you don't want people interfering with your ability to watch the game and say bullsh!t if you want or should you be kicked out if there is a 5 year old 2 rows in front of you?
I love the fact that you don't read anything I say and then basically agree with my whole argument. Ask yourself, are you more upset at the cursing or the fact he is yelling at his team while supposedly being a fan of that team. The guy in your op was an ass. No bout a doubt it(that just looks strange while typing) it's 2 separate issues. I would have treated him the same way I treat an opposing teams fan casue if he's acting that way the entire game thats what he is if he realizes it or not.

A couple thoughts:

1) There's a huge difference between passionate fans and s$$holes. mart3s was dealing with an a$$hole. He did more than curse out Clarkson twice. He cursed out everyone for an entire game.

2) It's a sporting event. This is a place where people go to let out their frustration and have a good time. Is it important to be careful if there are kids in the area? Yeah, but there are also parts of the arena that aren't geared toward kids and shouldn't be. If you bring your kids in there, you're asking for trouble. Try to move if you made a mistake. The lower levels are expensive, but the middle sections are usually pretty tame. The corners are full of adult die hards, and they should be allowed to enjoy the game. While they shouldn't curse all the time, it's not fair to expect them to be paranoid all season. A little common sense would go a long way. In the old Yankee stadium, the cop in the bleachers asked the creatures to calm down on Wednesday/Thursday day games (when people bring kids and the camp groups show up) against weak opponent. In exchange, he turned a blind eye to a lot of shenanigans at Mets and especially Sox games.

3) I know people like to drink at sporting events, and I don't want to ruin people's good times (See #2), but I really think drinking causes the most trouble. I've been at games where fans I respect came in wasted and became abusive a$$holes who should have been kicked out. The games are emotional enough, and alcohol fvcks with your judgment. I limit myself to a couple of beers at games, if that. I know alcohol will never get banned, and if it does, people will just get wasted next door, but why the fvck would you pay for a ticked and then get trashed? You don't even know what's going on half the time.
