He was one of the worst players on the ice for the first, say, 35 games. But, lately, he's actually looked like a passable hockey player. Not just because he's scoring-- but because he's actually putting himself in position to score. He's not awfully out of position, he doesn't try to do stupid moves whenever he touches the puck. He's a actually halfway decent hockey player. Anyone think he can sustain it?

I did notice in the games before he was scoring that he seemed to be a little more "with it" and was taking smarter shots/passes. I think he could sustain it, depending on the reasoning. If it was lack of conditioning keeping him bad, of course he could sustain. I think his linemates (read: Pelley) have also helped a bit. I'd like to see him sustain it, but knowing his history it's just a likely just a lucky streak. I guess we'll see.

I don't know. I sure as hell hope so. He could be a huge asset if he is that 15-20 goal guy we all thought we were getting

Clarkie has really stepped it up lately......he is starting to look like the player he appeared to be early last season before he went down with the injury

I think Clarkson has really suffered from the injury last year. He's seemed to have a lot more problems skating, not that he was a great skater before he got hurt, but it seems since then he has been a worse skater.

The past week or so, he has looked better. He has the goals he put up, but he seemed to be moving up the ice quicker and throwing a few more hits than he had been. He also hasn't been out of position nearly as much as he had been earlier this season.

I definitely believe that he benefits greatly from having Lemaire around. He seemed to be able to get Clarkson to play better than we all thought he could play. Under Lemaire last season, he appeared to be on pace to score about 20 goals and 20 assists and that's certainly the best anyone could ever hope to get out of Clarkson.

Though with the injury to his ankle last year, I think he'll never be quite as strong on the puck as he was because I feel like he's not as confident in the strength of that ankle. He seems to be more hesitant to carry the puck through the zone like he used to, he barely fights anymore and this leads me to believe that he is concerned that doing those things might cause him to re-injure that ankle

That's my 2 cents on Clarkson.

It's good that Clarkson has been doing a better job at positioning himself, he's certainly a better player without the puck.

I will say this:

He was playing well last season prior to getting injured, and started to play well again (recently) after Lemaire came back as coach. Sure he has not be playing as well, but who on the team as been playing well? Additionally I am sure he knew that he was possibly on the block to clear CAP space, and I am sure that did wonders for his morale. The next few games will really show if they are turning it around, or just more of the same.

Clarkson has stepped up his game since Langenbrunner has left for Dallas. He may now know that he has to play up to his potential of his contract or he could be traded as well. His last 3 goals (2 breakaways, 1 slapshot)have been just amazing. I hope he can keep it going and get some of these other veterans going as well with scoring goals then the wins will come.
