Wow, kind of weird to imagine him anywhere but in Buffalo. If he indeed bolts in the summer, I'd LOVE to see him in Jersey.

I'd imagine that he could have a real hard time adjusting to being with another team after being with the Sabres for SOOOO long. When you're with one team for that length of time and are so used to the way you operate there and how things work, it's definitely hard to adjust to anything different. It may be something that could hurt him if he tries his luck with another team after this season.

Who knows though, maybe he's thinking he doesn't want to coach in the NHL anymore and that's why he didn't accept the contract.

Tremblay said on RDS that Lindy Ruff could go with the Devils. He also mentionned Bob Hartly as a possible head coach!

I'd love to have Lindy come in here and take over. But I still see him sitting down with the new owner to discuss everything before officially walking away.

I've read articles where Ruff and Darcy Regier don't see eye to eye, I'm sure he'll have a sit down with the new owner once the smoke has cleared to make a decision. I for one wouldn't mind him coaching here, he seems to get the most out of his players.

You also have to remember - I think - that Lindy may want to wait and see what's going on with the new owner up there. He also may just want to move on to a bigger and better market - you could argue that could be us.

From what I've heard about Buffalo, is that they have a pretty good fanbase, at least in the city of Buffalo itself. Their average attendance has been greater than we have had in the past 10 seasons, with the exception of '02-'03, especially so over the past 4 seasons*. So I'm not so sure using that argument would do much to help attract him to NJ. It's definitely a bigger TV market than the Buffalo area though.

the sabres are spinning their wheels. they're loaded up with bad contracts, and while they have some good young players, it's not enough. they're in that class with the hurricanes as teams that are always on the cusp of the playoffs and that doesn't show much sign of abating.

ruff might just want a change of scenery - he's coached for long enough that he might be able to choose a job. san jose and washington might also be open, but we know NJ is open for sure. it wouldn't be a bad move.

lived there for 7 years [one year was the lockout], i wish ours could rival theirs cause to see how the community as a whole gets enthralled with the team is amazing. Everyone, and i do mean EVERYONE, knows what the score was the night before. When they were in the playoffs, they had a "Party in the Plaza" where the team put a video screen outside of the arena and let fans come down to watch, didnt matter home or away, the place was packed.

that being said, Ruff is a dedicated coach who doesn't take any crap from his players, will openly tell them and will not hesitate to bench anyone. He is the exact type of coach we would need to get back on track, and he always fights for his players especially those who play hard for him. We wouldnt see the same looking at the sky, disinterested expressions we had with Maclean or Sutter.

If he doesn't resign with Buffalo, he should be target #1, regardless of price tag. Pay it and make it happen.
