Yeah i just meant until SaturdayExcept when we need them to win to help our playoff chances. Trust me, I hate the Pens, but I want to see the Devils make the playoffs!

Best scenario: Wild beats Rangers, Flyers beat Leafs and Senators beat Thrashers.

Tomorrow: Buffalo VS Carolina (I don't know which one should I pick)
Best scenario: Wild beats Rangers, Flyers beat Leafs and Senators beat Thrashers.
wth, it seems like two teams directly ahead of us are playing each other every night. Can't these guys play teams from the West for the rest of the season (and get their asses kicked)?

Best case is the gap stays at 9 points with a Buffalo win in regulation
of each of Toronto's 6 shots on goal in Game 6

I want Sabres to win, I expect them to lose more as this long road trip wears on them. Plus, given this will be a hard fought game, it should make the schedule even tougher next week.
i think you have to root for the sabres so there is more of a bunching effect. the rangers are looking more like a target every day.

Buffalo for the win tomorrow, keep 8th place only 9 back. If they lose or win in overtime/SO, the gap goes to 10.
Best case is the gap stays at 9 points with a Buffalo win in regulation
Yeah best case would be Buffalo win because then 9 back, with 2 games in hand!! I mean these games in hand could be huge (if we continue to play well)
Not to mention and I know I am looking ahead but Carolina has a tough game traveling to Chicago on Friday night, and Buffalo travels to Philly on Saturday, this Devils team if they continue to play like this could really close the gap come Monday...

We actually have a better shot at catching the Rags now then the Canes. We have two games in hand plus we play them in April. We could close the gap to 4 points with those 3 games, which means we need to squeeze out 4 more points then they do over the other 19 games.i think you have to root for the sabres so there is more of a bunching effect. the rangers are looking more like a target every day.

only a minor adjustment to this, it would be squeeze 4 more points in the 16 remaining games we have since we only have 19 left now...
Which is totally doable...

Long Version: I'm just going to keep using my projected points method of rooting for teams since it doesn't matter either way. Here is where we are now. Notice how the win %'s are reversed by standing. Buffalo is really #7, Carolina #8, NYR #9. Catching the Rangers actually does no good. But, the interesting thing is that Carolina and Buffalo play against each other. I'll try to illustrate why I'm rooting for Buffalo and of course rooting for the NYR to lose.

Overall: If the Rangers win, they will be in 8th place regardless of the outcome of the Carolina-Buffalo game. They will be our new target to pass. and will be on pace to finish with 89.45 points, so 89-90. If the Rangers lose, we will either be chasing Carolina or Buffalo who will be projected for 87.05 and 87.21 respectively, or 87-88 points. Therefore, GO WILD and GO REGULATION.
All of this is of course just going off projections which is what I personally choose to do since I personally don't think any team has too easy / too hard of a schedule

Short Version: It only matters that the Rangers lose and that Car-Buf game doesn't go to OT. If that happens, we will be closer to 8th place in terms of winning percentage than we are right now. If the game MUST go to Overtime, we still improve (extremely marginally) in terms of win % ONLY if Carolina gets 2 points.

You shouldn't need math to root against the Rangers.

Watching Philly vs Toronto, will not be surprised if Leafs win this. Leafs using their speed to their advantage. Flyers are looking very slow and a step behind them. In other news
Ottawa up 1-0 over Atlanta (good)
Rangers up 1-0 over Wild (bad)
Flyers/Leafs and the rest (status quo)
Phily started slow, Toronto had 4 PP in first but Philly killed them. Philly is starting to step it up in the second, and lets go WILD!!!
