Posted ImageLast night an irreplaceable member of the New Jersey Devils family was honored at the 32nd Annual National Sports Emmy Awards.

Devils play-by-play guru Mike “Doc” Emrick took home the Emmy for “Outstanding Sports Personality in play-by-play.” The ceremony in New York City honored some of the sporting worlds top broadcasters. But, Emrick made hockey fans and the NHL proud by becoming the first hockey broadcaster to take home the award.

It was quite an accomplishment for Doc who had to beat out names like Costas, Nance, Michaels and Buck. The NHL also won big because the HBO special, “24/7: Penguins/Capitals – Road to the Winter Classic,” won Outstanding Edited Sports Special. Just last month the NHL signed the most lucrative television deal in its history with NBC/VS. It appears things are looking up for NHL broadcasting.

Besides working his microphone magic along side Glenn “Chico” Resch for the Devils on the MSG network, Doc also works on a national level. Emrick is also the lead announcer for NHL national telecasts on both NBC and Versus.

Emrick has been entertaining hockey fans since the 70′s and Devils fans since the early 90′s. His personality and professionalism personify Devils hockey and we are proud to have him represent the sport of hockey and the New Jersey Devils!
