Schneider has never played this many games before? Is every other goalie who is below their norm also suffering some odd calamity?

What's more likely, Schneider is having a rough patch to start the year, like many other goalies, or he's so scared of the 55 games he hasn't played yet that he's now below average?

A long time ago, but I recall when the Devils drafted Foster, the commentators sounded kind of shocked, but had the In Lou We Trust attitude about it.

I didn't watch the Sykora draft, but vaguely recall a recap in the Hockey News (remember when that used to be relevant) which didn't make it sound like it was a shocking pick.

They were both highly talented players free falling because of their injuries. I don't think Foster was a shock pick, just a calculated gamble.

The issue with Adrian Foster wasn't that he was picked it was when he was picked. No one else had him on their radar and we used our first pick to get him. We could have just as easily made that kind of gamble pick in the fifth round.

I don't think he was off people's radar. He was one of the highest rated players the year before. Everyone knew he had talent, it was who would pull the trigger first.

Sykora was a similar situation.

Or with no Niedermayer maybe Stevens continues to rack up 70 point season on the PP.

The better alt reality would have been if the Sharks entered the league on year later. Everything I've read indicates that the Devils would have selected Falloon with the second pick (just as everyone else would have at the time).

Falloon was consensus #2, I think it would have been shocking if the Devils didn't take him there.

Then Nieds and Scott LaChance were graded pretty equally. Nieds had more risk/reward and LaChance was more of a sure thing. Some people had LaChance 3rd.
