There was only one player that would fit on the market once parise signed with Minny. That was Semin. He played fine for Carolina until he got his extension and dropped off.

Other than that , there was no one to get. Lou said he had attempted to go after some players at the deadline but the price was too high. Being unable to replace a talent like parise is not the same as refusing to.

If Lou knew there wasn't a sure bet that Parise would stay then he should have traded for him before July 1st. End of.

You miss the playoffs 2 out of the last 3 years despite the talent level not being terrible, free agents continue to leave ya in the dust, and for the second time you fail to even MAKE the playoffs right after you made the Cup Finals. Yet excuses are still being made.

Bottom line is when your team fails to make the playoffs after making the SCF TWICE under the same GM, when your players publicly admit they aren't thrilled with the way the GM handles free agents, something is seriously wrong. I just don't understand why the owner of this franchise refuses to do or say anything about it.

Part of me is thinking that knowing him he is lighting it up because he is fighting for a contract. Now that he got one I fully expect to go back to being streaky as hell for the next few years.

I remember 96 as well. Was so pissed off for days after they choked it away against the Sens.

Took us to the cup right. One badish season and it's the world is falling the hell apart.

It's not just one badish season. What about 2011? Missing the playoffs after just 2 wins away from being Cup champs is completely unacceptable and Lou needs to be held accountable. BigZ said it best:
