Wow, just got back from work to find out this? Arguably my favorite NHL player on my favorite team bolts just like that? Some of you can shrug this off all you want, unless Lou pulls a rabbit out of his hat this is gonna be detrimental to the franchise, and not just on the ice either. Oates has a fair point to be fair; the Devils should have marketed him more so they can't escape any blame, but damn...
I don't know what the big deal is. We have to make it uncomfortable for visiting fans to come to the building and act like typical lowlifes like they always do. If they don't like it, tough. I'd even go a step further and ban anyone wearing a Rags jersey/clothing at any of the entrances. Devils fans shouldn't bring their Ranger friends and family if they don't have to. As long as Lou is in charge this team will continue to be abysmal in marketing and PR. Control freak.
lol. yeah a pathetic performance, the devils crushed the leafs, didn't get the bounces, the leafs did, and marty was perfectly fine tonight.
3 goals on 17 shots (and 9 goals in 2 games), plus 3 straight goals in the SO isn't what I call "perfectly fine". And it is another pathetic performance when you lose to the Leafs on home ice in a game where you can't afford to give up points. Show ruthless aggression(i.e. by going to the net instead of just shooting stationary from the point) and play 60 minutes. Is that too much to ask?

We basically had the chance to try Kovy out in 09-10. He didn't make a difference in our offense then. A smart front office would have looked at Kovy during the off season and realized that Kovy wasn't the piece to the puzzle. That season we limped into the playoffs and almost got swept by the Flyers.
Kovy got a point per game under Lemaire of all coaches and was instrumental in winning games for us. He was the only guy who showed up during the Flyers series(other than Zubrus).
We lost Gomer, Nieds, Rafalski, Holik etc. Sure we were disappointed but we moved forward and succeeded.
If succeeded means getting bounced out of early rounds by inferior teams year after year...
Look at the 07-08 club. Aron Asham, Karel Rachunek? We still managed to make the playoffs.
Only to almost get swept by the lower-seeded Rangers.
-Kovalchuk cannot handle pressure
All those OT goals in his career(especially last year) say otherwise.

Yep... we must be on losing streak.
Was it a mistake to sign Kovy? If we signed him to change him... yes. If we signed him to make us more offensive, we're not letting him. High scoring doesn't mean losing, it just isn't 'Devils' hockey.
Exactly. By signing him you would figure they would be going in a different direction from the defense-first system which was more than outdated. But nope, as I figured, they are turning him into something he's not, and it ain't looking good for us right now. This unselfish, passive, "Devils' hockey" crap hasn't worked since 2003. What's the point of signing a guy to $100 if he's going to be misused week after week, not attempting to build around him or if you're trying to change him into something he's not?
And you wanna make excuses for Parise and his injury, fine. Where was he when we were getting kicked out of the first round by inferior opponents year after year? Why didn't he try to step up? TBH Kovy(along with Zubrus) was the only guy who showed up in the Philly series, and not just on the scoresheet. "Lazy selfish Russians" actually playing hard.

Or at the Prudential center where you go any direction a couple blocks and it I would not call that "nice" either.
Office buildings/NJPAC to the north and the Ironbound to the east aren't bad so I dunno where you people get this "any direction" crap from.
sorry to break it to you but the surrounding area to the DC arena is much nicer than the rocks will ever be ... wether you want to believe it or not.
Not for the first 7 years of existence it wasn't. Arguably was in a worse spot than where the Rock is currently.
Look, you're getting a Marriott and Indigo hotels by next season, a chain restaurant in Dinosaur BBQ on Market St. next to Championship Plaza, on top of the stuff that's already there like Uber Burger, Edison Ale House, BCB&G, apartments on Edison Place, etc. What else do you want, less black people? I'd like the lots in front of the place to be turned into this Triangle Park thingy finally but that's not what I'm getting here from you folks.
