#1074656 Ruminations on the first 39.02% of the season

Oh my, something positive. :)

It must be the holiday season.

#1065058 GDT New Jersey Devils at Sabres

Posted by MantaRay on 17 November 2011 - 09:30 AM

The Devils now have won five of their last seven games. Those wins came over teams we need to be beating (Carolina and Winnipeg) and teams that are currently among the East's elite (Philly, Washington, Buffalo). And one of those two losses was a close one where we almost took down the streaking defending champs.

Of our next six games, only one comes against a team with more points than us (Florida) and three are against last-place teams (NYI and Columbus). November has the potential to be a very good month for this team.

Have to admit they played a great game last night.

NBA is just not relevant, but again if it helps keep the Devils, I am for it.

#986956 Raising No. 27

Posted by MantaRay on 04 February 2011 - 10:39 AM

As recently as the beginning of this season, I wasn't ready to see No. 27 go up. Now I'm ready. He was a supremely-talented player who consistently gave us "How the hell did he do that?" moments. He was a winner and was a huge part of this team's success for a long time. It's not like he badmouthed the organization or pissed on the fans. He always played hard (though he was so good that it looked effortless) and, from everything I saw and heard, spoke fondly of the Devils.

Time to let the insignificant stuff go and remember the good times, IMO.

He is one of only four Devils that have three rings with the team.    I fully appreciate much more since he left.   I don't blame him for moving on as he would have been forever be judged in a Devils uniform in the shadow of Stevens.   Winning with Anaheim solidified his greatness.

I hold the Devils core four of Stevens, Nieds, Dano and Rafi in the same esteem I hold Savard, Robinson, Lapointe, Bouchard as the greatest defense core in league history.

Nieds was a great Devil and the team loved him (I still remember Big Jim McKenzie crushing Domi in their first visit to NJ after his cheapshot in the playoffs).

#986674 GDT: YOUR NEW JERSEY DEVILS@ NY RANGERS 2/3

Posted by MantaRay on 03 February 2011 - 03:34 PM

WFAN.com posted an article how the devils have not been scoring and tonights win will pretty much be easy for the rangers.
I'm not saying im confident, but i think we have all the talent to compete and after what marty said yesterday.. he has to back up his gamee.
justdontgettotheshootout

Sadly, I have to agree with WFAN.

This will be a great test for the Devils as they will be finally be playing against a starting NHL goalie and an All-Star, while competing against a very good hockey team in the Rangers.

I can't believe I just wrote that.     This is such a bizzaro hockey world where the Devils suck and Rangers are going to make the playoffs.

#986030 Devils believe 14th straight playoff berth is 'possible'

If the Devils ever become a threat to make the playoff this year, other teams will start playing their starting goalies against us and our high draft pick will be secured.

#978657 Martin Not Setting the World on Fire

Posted by MantaRay on 09 January 2011 - 06:05 PM

I don't know who was speculating that, but that's not Martin's game. Rafalski, yes, Martin, no. Martin's a solid position player, not an offensive dynamo. Plus he's behind Letang and Goligoski on the offense-dman chart. If either of them went down with an injury, he'd see more 1st unit time.

Martin & Michalek have bolstered the team's defense, but neither one was brought on board in hopes of being an offensive sparkplug. Martin's +9 and helping get the puck out of the zone and in transition, and Michalek has blocked 73 shots in 34 games.

Devils don't miss Martin's point production as much as they miss his ability to break out of the d-zone.

+1

If Martin were still here he would be the only defensemen that can get the puck out of our zone.

#975697 NFL 2011 Offseason Thead

This from the guy who thinks Ravens WRs are Rice and Taylor reborn.......

This from a guy who can't read and then goes off and has imaginary conversations with himself.

This is a scary indictment on how obvious this is a bad move if he agrees with me

It is a scary indictment, but I guess you have to be right about something during the season.

WTF IS AL DAVIS THINKING?!?!?!??

Frack me I should know better then to ask.... but this is the first time in damn near a DECADE that team looked respectable.... Jesus Christ!!!!

I will never understand this franchise.   The first whiff of success in how long? and they are NOT going rehire the guy who is finally steering the ship in the right direction?

Too bad.   Rolston was a good player whose role unfortunately was sacrificed.

#967433 NFL Week 14!!

Posted by MantaRay on 14 December 2010 - 11:58 AM

Wow, the "vaunted" Ravens defense getting exposed like a drunk bartender at my birthday tomorrow night

Not so much the defense was "exposed" as you wish to think as they were fatigued being on the field so much in a pass defense.

This is more on the offense as we somehow can not run the ball.  I believe at one point in the 3rd or 4th quarter we were out gained 100 to 1 total yards on offense.

Flacco is a potentially great young QB and we have the best WR corps perhaps in the history of the game in Mason, Boldin, TJH, Stallworth, but we just can run the ball even with Le'Ron Mclain back and teams playing against the pass.

This is a very bad sign.     Go and do your rant against Ray Rice now.

here's what Єklund (2.3% accurate) (2.3% accurate) (2.3% accurate) said for anyone wondering:

No one cares about Єklund (2.3% accurate) (2.3% accurate).

Tanguay is very appealing to me.

Not sure what MA Bergeron's relationship was with Jacques, but would not be surprised to see him over hear (another Tverdovsky, Zyuzin type of reclamation project that Lou seems to love).
