#1172597 Canadian Anthem/ Chants

Posted by DaneykoIsGod on 21 February 2013 - 10:43 AM

"Everybody does it."

"I've done it before."

"The opponents do the same thing."

"Other fans do stuff that's much worse."

These statements, and those similar, may all be true. That does not change the fact that the behaviors are crude, disrespectful, unsportsmanlike, and embarrassing. If you want to behave this way, or accept this behavior in others, fine -- that's your choice. But don't try to tell the rest of us we're wrong to disapprove. We're not. It's that simple.

Anywhere else in the civilized world, a bare-knuckle fist fight is deemed to be so crude, disrespectful, unsportsmanlike, and embarassing that the participants are sent to jail. Not in hockey. In hockey, the participants are cheered, spend five minutes taking a breather, sign autographs afterwards, and collect six-figure per year salaries.

It's hockey. Stop begging for it to get pussed up. It's hypocritical to be OK with seeing a bare-knuckle fight, the bloodshed that occurs on a nightly basis, and the Claude Lemieux's of the league, but arbitrarily draw the line when people say the word "suck" within earshot. Don't try to tell me I'm wrong for saying so. I'm not. It's that simple. (God, what an arrogant end to a post.)

#1166776 Rangers Embrace Female Fans

Posted by DaneykoIsGod on 28 January 2013 - 10:22 AM

Men are very general and women are very detail oriented. Men tend to forget little things and women cling to them and seek their reparation at the soonest possible instance.

After living with a woman for two years, this is the truest thing I've ever read. "What do you mean you don't remember?! I specifically recall telling you last March that my cousin's friend's baby's sitter's nephew spent a year eating granola and hiking with a guy who knew a guy who bought a car from someone who sold Ben Affleck his first Pontiac, and that this car salesman gave my uncle his first job, and that's why you have to pretend you saw Argo any time my uncle mentions GM vehicles while watching football games shown during prime time in which the home team hails from the Pacific time zone. I can't believe you'd forget that!!"

#1165173 No Banner Raising?

Posted by DaneykoIsGod on 22 January 2013 - 03:52 PM

Jeez, I didn't realize the Wings were such glory whores. I'm surprised they didn't raise a banner in honor of the Avs retiring Bourque's number. Kinda cheapens how full their rafters look.

He probably remembered that Boomer & Carton suck and decided to do something more fruitful with his time like slam his head into a wall.

#1160625 Lockout 2012-2013 (Hockey's back!)

Posted by DaneykoIsGod on 06 January 2013 - 12:13 PM

I knew this would happen. She left, and now she's back. And I'm so happy to see her back that all is completely forgiven and forgotten. I'm a total sucker, but I don't care. I've got my hockey back.

LET'S GO DEVILS!!!!!

#1160501 Lockout 2012-2013 (Hockey's back!)

Posted by DaneykoIsGod on 05 January 2013 - 07:13 PM

I propose fans across the league get up and walk out after the first period at all opening night games.  I thought the first stoppage of play, but buildings are still half empty then.

I like the idea, but the other way around. League/PA negotiators took the offseason and first half of the season off, so we should take the first two periods off and show up for the third. Spend the first two periods in local establishments contributing to the people who were hurt the most by this circle jerk of a lockout.

#1159415 It's Official....asked for refund

Posted by DaneykoIsGod on 20 December 2012 - 11:20 AM

Wow, a thread full of legitimate, real-world problems being prioritized over this muddled nonsense between people who don't give a rat's ass about us. Something other than infantile PR stunts, owners demanding further protection from themselves, and the richest players trying to get richer while hurting the other 99% of their bretheren. How utterly refreshing to see common sense prevailing.

My heart breaks to see so many people here in dire financial straits. Best of luck to all of you.

Luckily, Sandy wasn't that bad where I am, and my family back at the Shore was inland enough to be spared from major damage. I've never been a season ticket holder, not even partial. So the storm and money really have nothing to do with me saying that I'm near my breaking point with this stupid league too.

Reading the other thread playing with the possibility of someone other than the NHL playing for the Stanley Cup got me thinking ... 1994, 2004-05, 2012 ... the NHL doesn't deserve the Stanley Cup. It's the coolest trophy in sports, and somehow this clusterfvck of a league gets to compete for it? That's like some community college intramural league giving gold medals to its winners while Olympic champions worldwide are forced to compete for turd necklaces.

And if I no longer care whether the NHL gets to compete for the Cup, then why do I care about the league at all? For most of my teenage and adult life, I've had a Devils hat practically stitched onto my skull. It's almost as much a part of my visible identity as my face. And now, for the first time since I was 12, I no longer want to be seen with an NHL logo anywhere on me. Why would I want to be associated with this kind of selfish bullsh!t? I've got a new home state to acclimate to. I've got a wedding to plan. My fiancee and I are hosting Christmas for the first time ever this year, and there's a weird smell in the apartment that I need to find and get rid of before my Grandma comes over. I've got a life to live, and continuing to care about a league that so obviously couldn't care less about its fans just seems like such an insane waste of time and energy and yada yada yada.

Both sides suck. I can't force myself to favor one over the other. But at least if they play, there's something to distract me from the fact that the people I give my money to are greedy, unsympathetic fvcktards. But for two decades now, like clockwork, we miss chunks of or an entire season so they can try to squeeze more money out of each other. I'm sick of it. Drop the damn puck already and distract me from how much I hate you owners and players!

If this entire season gets wiped out, I may have to force myself to become a basketball fan or something. At least the Devils would've given me a memorable and fun final run last spring.

#1158429 Lockout 2012-2013 (Hockey's back!)

Posted by DaneykoIsGod on 10 December 2012 - 02:16 PM

This lockout has become a disaster of Biblical proportions. We're talking Old Testament, real wrath of God type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the sky! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes! The dead rising from their graves! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, Devils fans saying nice things about Henrik Lundqvist ... MASS HYSTERIA!!!

:headless chicken:

#1145592 Boy Scouts of America

Posted by DaneykoIsGod on 24 July 2012 - 03:49 PM

I was a Cub Scout for a few years, then a Webelo, and then for a very short time a Boy Scout. Granted, this was a long time ago, but I do not remember the scouts being either conservative or liberal. I thought the organization was simply about teaching boys to become responsible citizens. I think maybe that's why this rule about them not allowing homosexuals as members seems a little out of left field to many people.

Ditto, almost word for word. I remember it being camping trips, tying knots, and various exercises teaching everything from state flags to basic engineering principles. There was an oath that mentioned "God and country", but that really isn't much different from the Pledge of Allegiance or what's printed on our money.   :noclue:

#1144497 Flyers sign Weber to offer sheet

Posted by DaneykoIsGod on 19 July 2012 - 09:45 AM

This talk of Philly frontloading the contract with gigantic bonuses makes this offer pretty obvious "spirit of the cap" circumvention. I mean, if the whole point of a cap was to keep the financial haves and have-nots on a level playing field when it comes to attracting/keeping talent, then this gratuitous use of salary bonuses to price out a team that doesn't have big-market bucks on hand most definitely pisses all over the cap's spirit.
