#1241783 GDT: NJ Devils vs. NY Rangers - 12:30pm on NBC - Stadium Series Editio

Posted by maxpower on 26 January 2014 - 07:10 PM

They've kept better players than Parise and Niedermayer?  Scott Stevens tried to bolt also... Keeping Schneider is not a slam dunk. Schneider is going to sign where he thinks gives him the best chance to win and make the most money?  The Islanders could throw the kitchen sink at him...  There are a lot of teams out there that are going to be in the mix to get him.  Trading the pick for 2 years of him was not a good trade at all.  Locking him up long-term is the key to that trade.  Lou's best chance to do that would have been last summer.  Now, we've already frustrated him with playing time and playing behind a marginal team.

The Devils have the extra year to give, that's worth $6.5-7M.   And how was he going to sign last summer with an existing contract?    If you're going to complain, at least understand how the system works, Schneider can't sign a contract until 7/1/14

one positive is that Marty has stopped giving up bad goals.  they're protecting him too and he's getting some results.   If they can win the games Schneider plays (they're not), he might end up being a pretty decent back up goalie.   he's .500 on the season

Prior 4th picks

2010:  Ryan Johansen

2009:  Evander Kane

2008:  Alex Pietrangelo

2007:  Thomas Hickey

2006:  Nick Backstrom

2005:  Benoit Pouliot

2004:  Andrew Ladd

2003:  Nick Zherdev

2002:  Joni Pitkanen

2001:  Stephen Weiss

2000:  Rusty Klesla

1999:  Pavel Brindl

1998:  Bryan Allen

1997:  Ruberto Luongo

Finally, I can stop with what I'll consider a top star player, but the next three years are pug fugly until we get to Paul Kariya in 1993.

There's your history of the #4 pick.   Problem is 1) you guys have no patience 2) you overvalue what a #4 pick actually is and 3) you all sat around during a pointless season having fantasies about the guy, listening to stupid talking heads who said he was Nick Lidstrom 2.0.

This is the problem with drafting defensemen, if you get impatient, you end up wasting your pick and if the player actually is good, someone else reaps the benefits.

#1213608 Devils getting rid of R&R part 2 as their goal song?

You don't think getting this worked up over a simple goal song change is a tad bit ridiculous?

You're doing the same thing about the reaction, ya know

#1203585 Kovalchuk Retired Effective Immediately?

Posted by maxpower on 15 July 2013 - 03:50 PM

I mean, I understand people are going to talk about this, but the rampant attempts to get into Kovalchuk's head are hilarious.   The guy is a flake who always thinks the grass is greener on the other side.    Just go with his track record.   I think it'll be very hard for him to get through the 4 years unless SKA handles their players differently than the things he was bitching about during his lockout RSL stint.

What do you want them to do, add a third deck to the arena so you can sit there?

The ended it.   Rangers schedule is full of tanking teams.   Isles would have to totally go into the sh!tter for us to catch them.

If they were kicking the Devils when they were down, they would have mandated he played 35 minutes a game.

No more claims, we're turning into the freaking Islanders.    Even worse, we'll get past the deadline and be stuck with all of these guys.

Posted by maxpower on 24 February 2013 - 08:22 PM

not to knock on Kovy but he needs to either

a) play less so he can hustle more

b) play harder

i always assume he's pacing himself so it explains why he's not always hustling and playing hard but when you're used to watch guys like Zach wide open chasing guys trying to lift their stick, backchecking like crazy and skating in circles around guys and literally being hell to play against. And then you see Kovy coasting all the time... its a bit frustrating, Kovy is a guy who can change a game with a good pass or a one timer while standing but his lack of effort is hurting the team from time to time.  Reeaaaaaalllllllly often you'll see a puck carrier skate around Kovy and he'll just coast after him knocking his gloves with his stick.

He's not a good in-zone defender.    It stands out now because he's not doing anything 5 on 5.    He's a transition defender.   If he makes a good play around you or you make a mistake around him, you're fvcked.

I'm not worried about his defensive play, that's not what he's here to do, he's here to snipe rockets from the left side of the ice.    But apparently only Bobby Butler can play LW with a right hand shot.

The magic of Henrik Tallinder.     They keep rolling him out there and they're not even going to get a 5 for him

So was Sami Salo.

Sami Salo:   Hmm, Kovalchuk's coming up the left side really slow.... I know, I'll block the passing lane as the play develops at 2 MPH....

Tom Gulitti@TGfireandice
I don't know how serious their interest was to begin with., but it sounds like Devils are out now on Gomez.

"The Devils are not getting Kovalchuk!"
"TG, they announced the trade an hour ago."

#1125081 Bernier's dive

Posted by maxpower on 28 May 2012 - 04:05 AM

This is just plain embarrassing. The thing that has separated us from teams like Pittsburgh and Philadelphia is that we have always played the game with class. Up until this point I cant remember too many dives from devils players which I am happy about but this one was a doozy. This is exactly what Carcillo did against us in 2010. CARCILLO. There is no need for this in the sport, if I wanted to see something like this I could have went back and watched the 4/5 matchup from round 1. I appreciate the effort Bernier has put forth so far, and am extremely pleased with th overall performance of our fourth line but if he is going to do crap like that then I want him gone.

Only problem with your thesis is that he got hit in the helmet/visor with the stick and it was clear as day on one of the replays.

#1123322 NBC Blocks Viewing Parties

Posted by maxpower on 23 May 2012 - 10:56 PM

What are the chances a Nielsen family member goes to a viewing party? Sometimes I wonder if that whole thing is a big charade and it's like in Assassins creed where the TV is watching you, not the other way around.
