#1324421 So now that Lou is gone...

Posted by thecoffeecake on 27 July 2015 - 05:19 PM

I've always said the only third jerseys I could stomach would be the retro(s) made into permanent alternates, or if they were going to do any redesign, something simple and traditional with the state.

But stomaching isn't supporting, or even tolerating. I'm afraid the fan base is getting a little too liberal with the idea of a third jersey now that Lou's gone, and ownership may find the climate favorable enough to do it now with every Devils chat outlet flooding with these disgusting mock ups.

Adding both green jerseys as alternates would let them sell more shirts, as the white ones obviously haven't been produced in how long, and would retain a shred of our traditions and integrity.

#1316683 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Posted by thecoffeecake on 14 May 2015 - 09:08 AM

All I wanted to do was not have to be invested any further in these playoffs. I'm on my way on a month long vacation, and I just didn't want to have to worry about giving a sh!t about the results. I wanted to relax, watch the games, and just grumble neutrally at the results. Now I have another two weeks at least to be stressed about hockey. Probably longer.

#1274348 I Have No Idea What I'm Talking About

Posted by thecoffeecake on 28 July 2014 - 12:51 PM

This is a bit delayed, I've been away with very limited internet access for some time. From some time soon after the Schneider trade through much of last season, I was adamant in saying Schneider would never re-sign here, and that we needed to trade him as soon as possible to get something of decent value for him. One of my fellow posters, exactly who I don't remember, asked me that when Schneider re-signed, if I would admit I have no idea what I am talking about. In my arrogance, I said something along the lines of 'absolutely'. So, NJDevs, here it is.

I have no idea what I'm talking about.

#1256833 Brodeur vs Avery: The Feud continues

Posted by thecoffeecake on 29 March 2014 - 12:04 PM

Marty can say whatever he wants. This feud is the highlight of Averys career. He accomplished nothing as an NHL player. Avery is lucky he ever played on the same sheet of ice as Brodeur.

#1253898 Who would take back Clarkson (at a discounted rate)?

Posted by thecoffeecake on 18 March 2014 - 09:13 PM

I'll give up the puck Elias scored with in Florida if Toronto keeps his entire salary. He can work for the Newark PD and do security for home games at no cost to the city.

#1245525 All purpose Olympics thread

Canada is just gonna roll these dudes.

Considering this Canadian team is arguably the best hockey team ever assembled, and we know Norway has one player on an NHL roster, I think this is an extremely impressive showing. I'll be watching them for the rest of the tournament. They're not as soft as most European teams. And it's not as if you can expect anyone to stop 38 of 38, and the Norwegian goalie did play well, the goals were generally stoppable. Who knows what happens if Norway has an NHL-caliber goaltender.

How much plastic surgery has Adam Oates had? I don't remember him looking like a middle aged Ken doll when he was here.

#1240166 Negative or Positive Contract Value - You Decide

Zajac is the best hockey player on this team. He does everything at a high level but score.

You had two pitchers of beer before a 7:00 game, and you're struggling with grammar at 12 a.m.? I think your window for blaming the alcohol closed long before you got home and made this mess.

#1219897 Devils getting rid of R&R part 2 as their goal song?

Posted by thecoffeecake on 25 October 2013 - 10:05 PM

Its not about the goal song, its about being told how and how not to act, and that the traditions we value are all of the sudden unacceptable. The people we are missing from the building is the casual fans. Diehards arent going anywhere, but every fanbase is dependent on casual fans. These traditions build a sense of community around the team, which brings in those casual fans. What we want is what they have in markets like Boston, Philly, St. Louis, places where people can walk down the street, see the game on a tv somewhere, say "hey, how are the Bruins doing?", and someone has an answer. They might not be the biggest fan, they might not have known the team was playing or even how they were that year, but they care because its a part of the community. This isnt all directly affected by the goal song obviously but i feel like these guys dont care to foster this sense of community around this team that we, or at least I, so desparately want. Everyone in Boston knows who the Red Sox are, how many non-sports fans in NJ know who the Devils are? They need to create that, somehow, and i felt like we were moving in that direction before this season. Sorry, that was a poorly articulated rant, and im on my phone so i cant really elaborate as well as i would like to

#1213920 Devils getting rid of R&R part 2 as their goal song?

Posted by thecoffeecake on 05 October 2013 - 06:22 PM

We need these community building traditions, even if some are offended. Im surprised an organization so heavily founded on tradition constantly is trying to get rid of a goal song thats been around since Colorado.
