#1312060 Devils Membership Program?

Posted by Colin226 on 06 April 2015 - 08:28 AM

Not to belabor the point, but I came across this solid post on the value of the membership program (from Devils Dominion on HFBoards):

Who's invited to the Devils Flex Membership presentation tonight?

There is really not that much to cover, you pay a minimum of $2,500 with the option of making 12 monthly payments.

When the schedule is released, you call your rep and choose your games, amount of tickets (up to 8 per game) and seat locations based on availability.
You can add games/seats as the season progresses as long as you still have funds in your account. Ticket prices will be lower than box office but slightly higher than what full STHers pay.

You will be entitled to most of the membership benefits too including access to player events.

Great flexibility, should be a real game changer.

It's not for the "cost conscious" fan who scours the cheap seats on StubHub or offers to buy tix on Facebook Group pages for 1/4 of the sellers' cost.

But IMO it is a great fit for these types of fans:

*The Devils fan that had had full season tix at some point, enjoys the STH benefits and attending a lot of games but just cannot commit to most of them anymore and does not want to deal with the time & effort of finding buyers for the games they cannot make. Typically they find that they cannot sell them unless they drop the price below their cost or they end of eating them which causes anger & frustration and leads to many venting posts on Devils fan message boards.

*Small biz owners or sales professional who usually attends around 10-20 games per season to entertain clients, prefers lower level or premium areas, but it's too costly to get full season in those areas. Boom, Flex Membership to the rescue.

*The diehard Devils fan who likes to hit about half of the games and enjoys the player events. He/She now has the flexibility of buying a single ticket to weeknight games to sit with friends in the balcony & drink brews & yell YS! and then 4 tickets for certain weekend games to sit with his/her family in lets say the lower level. Full season tickets was not a good fit for this type of fan.

*The older fan that only likes to sit in the calmer lower level, will go to a fair share of games, never tries or knows how to re-sell their tickets, money/ticket pricing is not an obstacle in their post retirement/golden years.
But they are in Florida or a warmer climate for a few months out of the winter.
Flex Membership fits like a glove as they can now pick the lot of the early & late season games and even a few in between to give as Christmas gifts to their kids and grandchildren. They also want to feel appreciated and a part of something and Flex Membership will do so.

#1285306 No practice on game days.

Posted by Colin226 on 28 October 2014 - 01:35 PM

I think the NBA did a study and the teams that skipped morning shoot-arounds played better that night..

Is this a hint that there's no Game Day thread yet? ;)

I say we roll with this as the GDT. I've seen worse on here before

#1268245 Sunny Mehta hired by Devils as Director of Analytics

Posted by Colin226 on 12 June 2014 - 03:29 PM

I wonder if being a Devils fan is detrimental to the work he's about to do. He's going to come into it with certain biases towards players. It's different when your hobby/passion becomes your career (and Lou your boss)

"And for my first order of business, here are statistics proving we are a better team and our fans complain less when Rock and Roll Part 2 is the goal song. Next up, I'll be explaining how lower beer prices equal more goals per game."

#1262273 NHL bends the Devils over with back-to-backs

Posted by Colin226 on 24 April 2014 - 02:37 PM

Yeah I'm with Tri, I think this was good for us with Marty and Cory both wanting ice time.. B2B's were a great excuse to split starts, taking pressure off the coach to make that call and keep both guys happy.

On a side note, since it was mentioned, I'll never ever sympathize with pro-athletes over "tough travel".. Gear packed and carried by equipment manager, bused from the arena right to their plane, quick wanding for "security" on the tarmac, private jet with amenities like food and leg room, and direct flights wherever they go. Then they stay at the Four Seasons or equivalently top-shelf hotel and can afford to buy whatever they need if they forget something.. Yeah that sounds rough

#1247263 Local TV ratings - Devils dead last

Posted by Colin226 on 24 February 2014 - 05:07 PM

Ok first off people let's get this straight, the only thing that matters is actual viewers.. As pointed out above, the Blue Jackets have a better "rating" than we do, but we have more actual viewers (households) watching per night, which is the real thing that advertisers and sponsors care about.. So our small ratings number means nothing in comparison to other markets.. In 2010, we had a 0.58 rating while Buffalo had a 6.45 rating.. That said, it equated to us having 43,000 viewers per game while Buffalo had 41,000 per game.. So you need to understand that first..

I'll also point out that in 2010 we had more average viewers per game than any other US team outside of the Original 6, Philly, and Pittsburgh.. So that year, more people were watching Devils games in a market with 2 other teams than were watching Buffalo, Minnesota, Washington, LA, San Jose, St. Louis, etc.. So we know we basically know that, in our market, success and having an exciting team are key for us

Posted this on HF but I'm not putting full stock in what Botta is reporting.. First off, his number of 21,000 average viewers last season is flat out wrong so it hurts the validity of his numbers.. According to MSG, we averaged just over 34,000 households because of our 0.47 ratings in the NY market (7.3 million households).. So yeah he's already off based on what we know for sure

To my knowledge, MSG hasn't put out a release on this season's current numbers yet, so I'm waiting for that to confirm or deny.. Sure this team is flat and not a draw, but 12,000 is a massive decline if true.. And let's remember, the folks selected to be part of Nielsen are chose at random, so there's always a chance that fewer Devils fans are randomly selected to participate in a given year.. Add in that we are in a split market, so whereas in any other market besides LA they only really follow 1 NHL team so anyone selected will probably watch a Hawks game, in our market they could theoretically pick all Devils fans and suddenly we kill the Rangers in the ratings

Jesus, after something like that, I'd find the nearest possible bong and inhale until smoke was coming out my ears. Then I'd spend the rest of the day giggling at everything and eating like I was on death row.

Sounds like my Sunday :P

#1228358 Oh these new owners are just dandy

Posted by Colin226 on 26 November 2013 - 09:43 AM

They aren't exciting, the games are rather boring (even when they do win). You're not going to see Kovy anymore or Parise, they don't have any "stars".

That's a part of it, and then you can add in the ticket prices, lack of discounts, etc.

I haven't been to a game yet this year, the longest I've ever gone into a season without attending. I'm not running to the building. It's easier to watch at home where I don't have to spend $75 getting there, paying for the ticket and grabbing minimal food. Oh yeah, if I take my girlfriend that's $140 for a night out to watch a mediocre team. Meh fvck that.

If I am going to watch a game I'll drop $30 at Whole Foods buy a ton of GOOD food (not sh!tty arena food) and watch the game here.

The Devils competition are the movies, tv, theater as well as the other teams in the area. I'm not paying $40/seat for nosebleeds. I'll give you 25 at the very max, even for  rangers game.

But not attending a game is always a cheaper option, so that hasn't changed and is never going to change.. Even so, you can easily find tickets under $20 a piece for weekday games (my buddy went for $13 last night and sat in the 5th row of section 119) on StubHub so I don't see how price is actually preventing you from going unless you feel compelled to buy directly from the team.. As for your organic (Whole Foods) diet, I mean it is what it is there.. They have a salad stand, or you could easily eat before the game as many fans do.. I really can't see how this prevents you from attending games or hinders the experience, unless you really prefer to be eating and watching at the same time

But you've totally lost me at not willing to pay more than $25 for a Rangers game.. I mean you're basically saying you're just very disgruntled and don't want to attend games this season, which is your right.. But don't go listing all of these easily-overcome reasons for not attending a single game, when it's clear that there's more to it.. You pretty much can't get into a Rangers game for under $50 so to say you wouldn't pay more than $25 is an excuse for just not wanting to attend any games.. Again, your right to refuse, but save the other excuses if you really just don't want to go.. Don't make it seem like to team should bend over backwards to provide you with <$25 tickets for Rangers games, plus Whole Foods-level quality food, that I can only expect you'd like at a more reasonable price than you'll ever find at any pro sporting event

#1226442 What does Mike Francesa know about local hockey?

Posted by Colin226 on 19 November 2013 - 11:52 AM

Fatcessa is representative of the media in this market. If you are of the opinion that the media provides what the masses truly want, then this market is an awful hockey market. 3 teams combine for near-zero overall media coverage. Can't wait for the old media dinosaurs to die out already.

Totally agree.. It's honestly a shame that they all collectively refuse to talk hockey. I actually love when I'm in south jersey and put on 97.5 The Fanatic because it's incredibly refreshing to hear someone call up about the Flyers and not only be heard, but get an intellectual response and discussion.. When I was up in Boston they had a 2 hour radio show dedicated to the Bruins. Blew my mind!

The old-guard NY media here are hindering the market.. They are setting it back 2+ decades by making hockey out to be like some niche sport that makes you weird if you follow it enough to care.. We have 3 teams here and our ratings for the Finals last year blew every other city out of the water aside from Chicago and Boston.. I get that having 4 teams amongst the 2 biggest sports, plus the Knicks when they are relevant (and I guess moving to NY made the Nets noteworthy all of a sudden?) BUT why are we discussing the same NFL or MLB off-season sh!t over and over and over again Tuesday through Thursday when there are hockey games on. I mean we can't take one hour to dedicate to hockey in all of that? I think they are afraid of it for some reason, otherwise why treat talking hockey like it's taboo and, if all of a sudden if you discuss it, no one will listen?

I mean turn on SNY and it's the same.. I tweeted to the host of Loud Mouths after the Devils sale that I thought it was a little ridiculous they could even discuss it for 30 seconds on their like hour long show.. Guy tweeted back that it was a fair point and he brought it up briefly on the next show

I will say that I think it's partially a self-fulfilling prophecy.. The hosts downplay hockey, so people either decide "well I guess no one really does care about it" or "well I won't try to call in for it then", so it gets talked about less, so the hosts don't feel a need to satisfy the market by talking about it when they can just as easily discuss the flavor of the week in the NFL for 20 hours a day and have morons call in to say the same crappy comments all day long

#1224830 NHL Stadium Series - Public Tickets Sale 11/21 @ 10am

Posted by Colin226 on 12 November 2013 - 02:23 PM

Damn I wonder how much is left.

I got three tickets to the game via the rangers pre-sale link. Got the cheapest tickets left at $149 a pop plus $102 service fee and $10 shipping free from ticketmaster for all three tickets. They do come with a free limited edition rangers scarf and hat for reach which will provide plenty of warmth when I light them on fire for the game.

As for the jerseys it's probably safe to say it's going to be the red throwbacks with a special patch. Rangers will probably wear either their current whites with a patch or their retro whites that they wore in the late 70's for 2 years with the rangers shield on them. Last they wore those was back during the 03-04 season as part of the vintage jersey series games that the original six teams took part in that season.

I was thinking they may bring these back from the 2011 Winter Classic (image below), but lord help us if they bring back the Liberty-head jerseys.. Those will get so much attention since everyone seems to have loved them

Edit: Just realized that the Rangers logo appears to be their typical one and only the Islanders will have a modified logo for the Stadium Series. Guess the Rangers may be doing those late 70's jersey afterall

The Isles logo looks terrible.  I can't wait for this game.  Trying to get a couple of buddies to go with me.

I thought the same thing. for anyone too lazy to go look it up, are they dropping blue from their colors or something?? Leave it to the Islanders to make a crappy jersey, it's their M.O.
