Franchise Hockey Manager anyone?

29 November 2014 - 10:25 AM

Well, this isn't a fantasy league, per se, but has anyone else tried Franchise Hockey Manaber from OOTP? I've been playing off and on thru this year and it is fun, albeit a still a little underdeveloped in version 1. I've taken the Scouts over as an expansion team, managed thru the Colorado years, and now have our beloved NJ Devils. I have to admit it is a lot of fun managing some of the old favorites. I've got Chico in goal, Lanny McDonald on RW, and I just got a young Peter Stastny as my number one center.

So, anyone else tried this game? The next version is supposed to allow for multi player leagues, so if I can find some other peeps maybe we can set something up. We can all flip a coin for who gets the Devils! ;)

EDIT: just figured I'd mention that I am not affiliated with and do not benefit from mentioning this product. I just really enjoy it.

Players for whom you have outsized memories?

20 November 2014 - 11:06 AM

Here is the idea: what players, if any, do you have outsized, disproportionate, or just badly flawed memories compared to their actual accomplishments? Maybe this player played in a game important to your youth, or they played in a big game, etc. they can be Devils or from other teams. This is my favorite example:

Ken Holland- back when I was a kid I clipped newspaper articles from the Trentonian and clipped a pic of Holland in goal. I'm not sure why I did this, but the Wings really sucked back then and I had a soft spot for the (other) losers in the NHL in the '80s. Anywho, I had always assumed that Holland had something of a career since I've been looking at his pick for about thirty years. Then, on a whim, I looked him up recently. He played FOUR games in the NHL. That's it. So for years I had this kiddie memory of him being a member of the Wings in the '80s when, more accurately, he was a perennial minor leaguer who got a rare call up. I just happened to clip his pic and the rest was history.

So okay folks, who else is ready to admit they've got a faulty memory? Btw, does anyone else even remember Holland? You're disqualified if you are, in fact, Ken Holland, his spouse, children, or extended family. :)
