Another thread that exhibits how lost the majority of fans are on this forum. Should there be a correlation between skill and one receiving the captaincy? Yes. Should it be the cause? No
Over the past 25 years look at the winners of the Cup, I can think of 2 to 3 instances where the most skilled player was the captain of the team.
First off - I love when people try to act superior to others on this forum / this forum in general. It's like a new trend lately. If some of you are so much more enlightened than the rest of us, you probably should just.. stop coming here, right? It's especially ironic that you're calling us "lost", when you posted a thread the other day that 99% of the board was against. Not to get too personal (because who has the time for that) but I feel like the facebook fanpage is more your.. breed.
Second - Who in this thread said the captain should be the most skilled player on the team? I think most are saying the captain shouldn't be the LEAST talented player on the roster.
There's certainly a happy middle ground between skill and leadership, but I don't think Salvador hits it.
Also not a smoker, and never have been, so I'm going to take a bit of a harsh stance on this one. Good, I'm glad they're doing away with it. When that smoking deck is open during the intermissions that entire side of the concourse wreaks of smoke.
Man the Devils have SO many quality prospects on defense. It's truly a great thing.
(In no particular order) Larsson, Merril, Gelinas, Severson, Santini, Scarlett, Jacobs..even Burlon and Hrabarenka.. damn.
Does make you think some of them have to be expendable though.
I have to admit.. I was always adamantly against trading Larsson. But if he's still got that flashy appeal to other GMs..and if he could snag a quality offensive prospect.. I'm starting to think it might be a smart move.
With everything else going wrong this season that could (I mean literally. I can't think of a positive to take away from this season) the hockey gods might as well cap it off with a Rangers cup victory.
I think it's definitely a little ridiculous to have 14m sitting on the third line when the team lacks any real top-end talent. It's money sunk that would best be spent elsewhere..like on a 1st line player.
Of the Devils top-6 (and other scorers) this season..
Zajac: 2C on a good team
Jagr: 2W on a good team
Brunner: 3W (at best)
Clowe: 3W on a good team
Ryder: 3W, although I'd honestly argue he's less useful than that even
Zubrus: 3W at best
I mean..wow. That's a pretty bad forward roster. Jagr definitely overachieved this year which helped tremendously..unfortunately his contributions were kind of wiped out by Brunner and Ryder.
There's not a bona-fide first line player on this year's roster. Wasting so much money on bottom-6 players like you're suggesting would be foolish.
