#1290357 The Devils are bad and it's time to tank

Posted by SterioDesign on 21 November 2014 - 12:18 PM

selling players that you're going to lose anyways or dont want to resign to acquire assets to try to get better in the future doesn't mean you're tanking.

Not sure why some posters here keep on bringing that up.

#1288622 The Devils are bad and it's time to tank

Posted by SterioDesign on 11 November 2014 - 07:21 PM

It sucks cause were in a bad spot having to make hard decisions cause hard decisions werent made in the past. I'm obviously not a GM im simply a nobody on an internet forum but i did call what i'd do before Lou took action (or didnt) and turns out we would be in a better spot if i was actually the GM. (Thats not saying i think i could be a GM is simply showing that Lou took sh!t decisions and gambled wayyyyy too much, his win now / not thinking of the future mentality killed the team. Actually i think its simply selfish of him cause he knew he won't be here for too long and wanted to win and simply don't care for what's left when he's leaving.

1- Zach. As much it was a hard thing to do Lou HAD to give an ultimatum to Zach that summer, he simply couldn't go for a 1 year deal.

Lou's results = Losing zach for nothing. SD's estimated results = Trade him if you either can't pay for him because of the ownership or if he wants to want for more. Im sure a first round 9 (they had 7th overall that year) + top prospect + NHL player at least would have come back to NJ. The wild had tons of great prospects back then too. And thats only if they would have traded with Minny. more team would have been in for sure.

The cup finals arguments? yeah. well turns out we didn't win. The revenue we got out of it is the only good thing about it. Not worth the sh!t team were watching now if you ask me.

2- Clarkson. We we're a bubble team who just lost a 30 goals scorer we couldnt risk losing another one + if we had a chance of not making the playoffs. Had to look for the future there and not risk him.

Lou's results = Losing Clarkson for nothing.  SD's estimated results = Trade him at the deadline for decent return. He was coming off a 30 goals season and was on pace for a good one that season. Was still seen has a warrior who could do it all and entering his prime. We could have got a first round pick for him for sure from some teams, even a prospect or a pick.

See where the "were in the playoffs run it would be CRAZY to trade a 3rd line player!" brought us?

3- Salvador. Not signing him to 4 years at that money. Not giving him the C. I dont even have to go deeper into that one.

4- Fayne. Lou had to see what was coming and had to make room for Fayne cause he was the obvious replacement for Sal. Now we lost Fayne for nothing and have no one to replace Salvador until Santini and we have to see fvcking captain useless do his sh!tshow night after  night.

5- 29th pick. If you have to forfeit a pick in the next 4 years and get the 29th pick. For the love of god give up that fvcking pick. There's no excuse for that one.

Lou's result = Matteau SD's estimated results = 2014 10th overall pick. Nick Ritchie went at that pick but god knows who we coul have picked.

Just from all of those decisions of course we'd had more assets and players on our roster and less need to go and overpay on the market or need to fill so many holes.

I know thats all easy to say "now" but i DID say what i'd do before all of that happened. The only 2 moves Lou did that turns out really good that i would have never made is the Jagr signing and trading for Schneider. Gotta give him credits for that.

Bottom line. I'm no GM but i've been called out like crazy here by the Lou's defenders. But see what a simple "lesser win now no matter what and look for the future" kind of mentality could have brought this team. We could have skipped an official "rebuilt" just with those moves. Not it seems like we'll have to go through it no matter what.

Haters gonna hate. I dont expect any of my haters to suddenly say that im right but it's hard to deny all those points. We'd be in a very very better position than now.

#1285820 GDT: New Jersey Devils @ Pittsburg Penguins 7PM MSG

Posted by SterioDesign on 29 October 2014 - 10:09 AM

another good news is that we're still tie with a bunch of team in a playoffs spot. Not as if we fell behind and already dig a hole.

That been said we've already seen bad habits and patern from suckness that we had last year. It REALLY needs to be addressed.

I do think a lot of the blame has to go to Pete, we are not an incredibly skilled team but our guys are skilled enough and proved they can score in shootout, have a good PK, protect leads and be dominant.

Now there's a patern of sucking in those areas now and its always repeating. That's on the coach if those things keeps happening cause it's all in the players head. They are either not prepared well enough or they are not in the right mindset. Either they are playing stressed or something but the problem is in their head and again, that's on the coach

#1281980 Would you trade Adam Larsson...

Posted by SterioDesign on 13 October 2014 - 01:12 AM

You have as good a memory as you are a reader or a thinker.  Does this make any sense?  Could you think about this for a single second and think 'Hey, does this make sense?'  It just shows you don't even know what you don't know - you haven't paid attention to a lot of what I've written.

ATL:  he wasn't calling me a pessimist, he's saying I judge players without context.  The enormous irony of course is that A: I do consider context and that B: it's a lot easier to be skeptical of my method than it is to come up with a counter method.  First it's 'Corsi doesn't matter' now it's 'you have no context'.

You can certainly try to turn this around but i remember clearrrly what i said and if youre really saying that youre never coming up with a statement like... "This guy is no good cause "insert some not favorable stat" bla bla bla..." Black on white with no context. Well i dont know what to tell you. You never bring any context or intangibles or anything other than numbers in your statements, or if u do its verryyyyyyyyyy not often.

its great that the whole forfeiting pick thing is now behind us and we don't have to consider it looking into the next draft

#1274124 This off seasons UFA's and realistic possible trades

Posted by SterioDesign on 22 July 2014 - 09:31 AM

Nobody is making a case that Rinne is the best goalie in the NHL other than a delusional Predators fan. He had two very nice seasons (one was outstanding). The last two years have been shaky at best.

Not as if he's been injured and played in front of a bad team or anything. The guy is fvcking excellent top 2 fav goalie to watch in the league, he's huge but athletic

#1273801 Kovalchuk Retired Effective Immediately?

Posted by SterioDesign on 16 July 2014 - 08:57 AM

Another relationship analogy. Who hurt you, SD?

You're like the guy who's pining over some girl that left him and can't bear to hear his buddies make fun of her.

I'm sorry, but most of us don't want to sit around slitting our wrists and saying "man I really miss Zach and Kovy" all day. Nobody says they don't want Zach. They said they don't want Zach for 13 years. Big difference.

This team has been put together a certain way from the goal out with defensively responsible forwards for 25 years. It very rarely has flashy forwards. Why would you pick a team that so clearly is against your preferred style of hockey?

youre going around everything i said buddy. means you have nothing to say about it i assume

#1273672 Kovalchuk Retired Effective Immediately?

Posted by SterioDesign on 15 July 2014 - 07:12 AM

Jesus Christ, how many walls have people put their fists through walls reading yours and Mike Brown's posts in the past year?

"Streak" of missing the playoffs?  fvcking really?  He was here in 2013 when they missed the playoffs, remember?  So they missed the playoffs once since he left...that's now a "streak"?!  And yeah, Kovy was sure awesome in 2013 (no, he wasn't).  And awesome again in 2014, when he wasn't exactly lighting it up in the KHL.  Stop living in 2012 and stop blowing Kovy up to be more than he was.

Yeah Parise was missing and EVERYONE sucked that year. Who caried the team almost back in the playoffs in the 2nd half? who? yeah thats right.

back then we we're praising the guy. Now that he's gone, its like he was a fvcking useless bum?

Even if he was not to your "level of awesome" he was better than any other player on the team, so acting as if he's not useful ? give me a break

#1273671 Kovalchuk Retired Effective Immediately?

Posted by SterioDesign on 15 July 2014 - 07:08 AM

No offense, but sometimes I wonder why you're not a Chicago or Pittsburgh fan. You constantly bemoan the team's lack of speed and flashy offense, but that's not the kind of game this team plays. The team and PDB's system negates speed and is built on quality 5v5 play where our offense comes from zone time, which is gained by forechecking hard and good play along the boards. These are both things Kovy wasn't particularly good at.

It just seems to me that sometimes you're complaining about things that epitomize who this team is. That just doesn't make sense to me.

Listen, with my post i was not "complaining" i was pointing out how ridiculous some posters are now bashing Kovalchuk like he was a fvcking terrible player and that he was not useful at all. He was helping us a LOT and now people are butthurt and will try to convince themselves that he was terrible, which is not true at all.

But the same people will never say a bad thing about Zajac who can barely score 20 goals as a first line center. The double standard on this board is ridic. So many freagin homers / koolaid drinkers here its unreal.

I went through the 5 stages of grief pretty quickly.  I'd find it hard for anyone to argue that NJ isn't better off at this moment.

sure if you look at some 5 on 5 corsi stats maybe you can convince yourself that.

looking at our shootout, remembering all the games we lost by one goal and a streak of missing the playoffs since he left....

no we're not better off. buddy was scoring big goals for us and was drawing opposite players opening the play for the other guys and he's fast. it's all immensely missing now on this team
