#1306079 Larsson blossoming

Posted by SterioDesign on 22 February 2015 - 10:24 AM

Stevens is not making miracles here with Larsson, the one and only thing helping Larsson right now is not having Deboer behind the bench.

Its pretty damn clear that Larsson was playing under unnecessary stress knowing that if he was making a mistake he was gonna get benched or sit a few games. You cant play your game that way, you overthink and its making you make bad decisions. It might sounds sily and easy to think "just grow some balls" but its definitely a thing and some players are struggling with that, confidence is HUGE for an athlete. Huuuge.

Also larsson's asset is passing and his decision making. Hes never gonna be super fast, have a canon, be a bone crusher or wtv. So Deboer was fvcking with his main asset, no wonder he was struggling.

#1305138 Devils Trade Deadline Thread

Posted by SterioDesign on 16 February 2015 - 12:42 PM

We have no more reason to believe Severson will be a star than we do Drouin.  Calling Severson a 1D after 30 games in his rookie season is a joke.  I'm not rooting against the guy, trust me - but take off your homer glasses for a minute, give me a break.
And uh, yeah you can name a bunch of D prospects and claim the Devils have "depth" in the talent pool - that's exactly what prospect depth is.  The Devils have a solid group of young defensemen in the system that could hopefully pan out to a solid core some day.  There's absolutely nothing inaccurate about that statement.

The REALLY good reason, this hypothetical example, is that you can acquire a game-breaking offensive talent, something that the Devils sorely lack and will not acquire in any other way (especially since they ruined their chance at a top-3 pick this season).  And I don't think it's foolish to consider an opportunity where you improve a severe weakness by dealing from a position of strength.

...I'm wasting my time here.  We're just going to have to agree to disagree, because, IMO, you're talking nonsense.

The Islanders seem to be the obvious solution for some of our veteran guys with families.

And then on the other end of the spectrum, there's Jagr.  Wonder what his primary motivation is right now.

Not to say exactly like you're saying but more adding to it. Well basically... you're right. But having super strong depth at one position is useless unless you're still balanced. The difference is really thin sometimes in the NHL between who has a strong group of D or F. One of 2 players can make a total difference.

But at the end of the day... you need balance. And i'd really rather have an average group of forwards AND defence (in term on quantity) and beef up both group through the year than being stacked on D and super dry on the attack like we are now. So if we can flip assets now... we really should do it.

We know we know we know we know how you feel. You dont have to put down paragraphs about it for every thread. :(

well it was a response to someone's post who still thought Lou was relevant. IMO posters protecting and finding excuses for Lou and denying anything wrong he can do is just as annoying as me bringing this back

You're calling out Kool aid drinkers and listening to Chere?!? He hasn't been credible in years!

And lou hasnt been credible in years either. They are actually both on par when it comes to their job quality.

Look at ALL the bad signings, the terrible roster management, the horrible roster structure, all our lost assets, nothing to trade, our team is the oldest in the NHl, no speed, no skills, no good faceoffs guys, 2 head coaches!!!! the team itself is a joke and all we get is typical "status quo" non-sense and denial about what the whole world is seeing. Hes not even willing to admit that we need a rebuilt. Teams who went the right directions accepted what they are and made the right moves, lou as been in denial for 3 years now.

How in hell should we support that guy anymore? For what he did 15 years ago? Then geez lets bring back brodeur then.

And PLEASE dont tell me "hey he built a strong group of young D and got a good goaltender. Allllll the team in the nhl has something good and are way better balanced that we are. Theres no sugarcoating our situation. Were going downhill.

#1303732 Fans Q&A with Lou

Posted by SterioDesign on 06 February 2015 - 04:32 PM

What wins championships is defense.  Here's the last few cup winners in shots against:

LAK:  2nd

CHI:  4th

LAK:  4th

BOS:  29th

CHI:  1st

PIT:  18th

DET:  1st

A few outliers there - Pittsburgh got significantly better after their coaching change - but in general you have to be a good defensive team to win it all.

Ahhh well sure, just like any stats you can find one stat who's gonna say exactly what you want them to say. Here's mine. In all those playoffs here's where all those teams ranked in goals per games average.

LAK:  1st in goals for per games in the playoffs

CHI:  6th in GF/G

LAK:  3rd (behind Pittsburgh and Flyers and we know why)

BOS:  5th n GF/G

CHI:  3rd

PIT:  2nd

DET:  1st

#1302173 Brodeur retires, joins STL front office

Posted by SterioDesign on 27 January 2015 - 09:49 PM

Heres my ultimate dream ending...

Next season, marty signs a PTO, plays a home pre-season game where he's splitting the game with his son. Marty starts, anthony ends the game. And they both have a special moment and an ovation at the end of the game.

Then marty takes a job in the front office.

Lets remember, we were 10 points ahead of last place in the standing and oilers had one game in hand when this happened.

#1296838 I really am beginning to hate our fans.

Posted by SterioDesign on 22 December 2014 - 09:26 AM

I'm with HOI with his original post.  Their is never a time I can consider our fans as "classy" like in Montreal. Booing the coach with this group?  Are you kidding me.

Whoah. dude.... Don't want to be rude but you couldn't be any further from the truth there and i think you don't know exactly what you're talking about with this one.

#1296590 How do you feel about Seth Helgeson?

Posted by SterioDesign on 20 December 2014 - 09:32 PM

To be honest.... i see him as a replacement of Salvador... so here's how i feel

I feel like a mother who saw her daughter going out with an unemployed-no life-drug addict-abusive boyfriend for 4 years and wouldnt do anything about it no matter how bad he was for her.

Then she gets another polite boyfriend who simply works at McDonalds...

So basically i like him like a mother would love that McDonalds kid.

#1295232 Reality Check

Posted by SterioDesign on 15 December 2014 - 11:38 AM

How is the original post any sort of reality check? If you're talking about defense exclusively, then maybe it's applicable.

As a whole we're pretty much the opposite of that video.

Swing and a miss. If you're going to try and act like a superior a$$hole to the rest of us, at least make sure you're making sense.

I can agree with everything you said.

Nashville never won anything with Suter, Weber and Rinne. Lets keep that in mind

#1290357 The Devils are bad and it's time to tank

Posted by SterioDesign on 21 November 2014 - 12:18 PM

selling players that you're going to lose anyways or dont want to resign to acquire assets to try to get better in the future doesn't mean you're tanking.

Not sure why some posters here keep on bringing that up.

#1288622 The Devils are bad and it's time to tank

Posted by SterioDesign on 11 November 2014 - 07:21 PM

It sucks cause were in a bad spot having to make hard decisions cause hard decisions werent made in the past. I'm obviously not a GM im simply a nobody on an internet forum but i did call what i'd do before Lou took action (or didnt) and turns out we would be in a better spot if i was actually the GM. (Thats not saying i think i could be a GM is simply showing that Lou took sh!t decisions and gambled wayyyyy too much, his win now / not thinking of the future mentality killed the team. Actually i think its simply selfish of him cause he knew he won't be here for too long and wanted to win and simply don't care for what's left when he's leaving.

1- Zach. As much it was a hard thing to do Lou HAD to give an ultimatum to Zach that summer, he simply couldn't go for a 1 year deal.

Lou's results = Losing zach for nothing. SD's estimated results = Trade him if you either can't pay for him because of the ownership or if he wants to want for more. Im sure a first round 9 (they had 7th overall that year) + top prospect + NHL player at least would have come back to NJ. The wild had tons of great prospects back then too. And thats only if they would have traded with Minny. more team would have been in for sure.

The cup finals arguments? yeah. well turns out we didn't win. The revenue we got out of it is the only good thing about it. Not worth the sh!t team were watching now if you ask me.

2- Clarkson. We we're a bubble team who just lost a 30 goals scorer we couldnt risk losing another one + if we had a chance of not making the playoffs. Had to look for the future there and not risk him.

Lou's results = Losing Clarkson for nothing.  SD's estimated results = Trade him at the deadline for decent return. He was coming off a 30 goals season and was on pace for a good one that season. Was still seen has a warrior who could do it all and entering his prime. We could have got a first round pick for him for sure from some teams, even a prospect or a pick.

See where the "were in the playoffs run it would be CRAZY to trade a 3rd line player!" brought us?

3- Salvador. Not signing him to 4 years at that money. Not giving him the C. I dont even have to go deeper into that one.

4- Fayne. Lou had to see what was coming and had to make room for Fayne cause he was the obvious replacement for Sal. Now we lost Fayne for nothing and have no one to replace Salvador until Santini and we have to see fvcking captain useless do his sh!tshow night after  night.

5- 29th pick. If you have to forfeit a pick in the next 4 years and get the 29th pick. For the love of god give up that fvcking pick. There's no excuse for that one.

Lou's result = Matteau SD's estimated results = 2014 10th overall pick. Nick Ritchie went at that pick but god knows who we coul have picked.

Just from all of those decisions of course we'd had more assets and players on our roster and less need to go and overpay on the market or need to fill so many holes.

I know thats all easy to say "now" but i DID say what i'd do before all of that happened. The only 2 moves Lou did that turns out really good that i would have never made is the Jagr signing and trading for Schneider. Gotta give him credits for that.

Bottom line. I'm no GM but i've been called out like crazy here by the Lou's defenders. But see what a simple "lesser win now no matter what and look for the future" kind of mentality could have brought this team. We could have skipped an official "rebuilt" just with those moves. Not it seems like we'll have to go through it no matter what.

Haters gonna hate. I dont expect any of my haters to suddenly say that im right but it's hard to deny all those points. We'd be in a very very better position than now.
