#1203369 [Official] Damien Brunner signed to multi-year deal

Posted by sundstrom on 14 July 2013 - 06:25 PM

i really hope Brunner AND Raymond signs and perform... cause even with those 2

Elias Zajac Ryder

Clowe Henrique Brunner

Raymond Loktionov Zubrus

Carter Josefson Bernier

Tedenby Gionta Barch

its not a great great group of forwards. There's not one legit top line player in that group, its gonna hurt. Especially since we're not getting tons of goals from our defence either.

You're bumping olesz out of the top 12 w/ 2 signings and I don't think that's happening. As it is, signing brunner, which I very much want, knocks gionta out and we know the devils are fond of him.

I think they're signing one more forward and that's what they'll go to camp with. That alone knocks one of barch, gionta and tedenby off the varsity and we know barch stays to be the resident punching bag

#1202803 Kovalchuk Gone, What moves do we make now?

Posted by sundstrom on 12 July 2013 - 02:13 PM

we fancied ourselves contenders before kovy's announcement. he was an integral part of the team for sure but where he helped most was PK and PP. I'm not convinced that he was the engine that made the PK go and the PP was never great with him. While I don't subscribe to the idea that he was not a good 5 on 5 player, there's enough evidence to suggest he wasn't as great as his name made you think.

this team has a 12-13 senators feel to it, i think. nothing outstanding (karlsson aside), but a bunch of good players and good goaltending. the devils could mirror that. i think jagr would be a terrific fit for one year. his presence on the PP totally changes its dynamic and he's a really good ES player.

#1198885 2013 NHL Draft

Posted by sundstrom on 01 July 2013 - 08:53 PM

I saw them too. Lou spent the whole first round sitting at the Canucks table.

i am convinced that you and feisty were wrong about this. but you'd have to be costanza spotting dimes and eating onions to see from where we were.

also - glad the extra tix went to good use with you and feisty.

we should have a meet up at the rock next year for sure for board members. i can now vouch for the fact that at least 4 of us who I've met IRL aren't axe murderers.

#1189637 Elias about Lou's free agents approach

Posted by sundstrom on 29 April 2013 - 03:48 PM

Lou should point out  how Lucic went from a fan favourite and an absolute God in boston to the scapegoat being benched and booed by the same fans within a year, why? cause he's getting way too much money for what he's doing and people expect 30 goals every season now cause thats what he signed for.

People don't sh!t on players with very fair deal as much when they go cold. I'd really take that into consideration if im Clarkson. Looking around the league to see all those guys who signed for more than can chew

i'm sure lucic is sticking hundred dollar bills in his ears to keep from hearing fans boo him.

when people say, "put yourself in his shoes" they're not saying, take your twenty something internet surfing fan of your favorite team self and turn yourself into a world class athlete.

they're saying - look at it from the guy who worked his whole life to get to this point and has an extremely limited window to maximize his earning potential for the rest of his life.

i have absolutely no problem with clarkson trying to get every dollar he can. i never have this issue with any athlete.

#1188210 Matteau Matt..no

Posted by sundstrom on 22 April 2013 - 12:58 PM

Trade trade trade!

his value is nothing more than a throw in to a larger deal.

if i'm lou, i get him in NJ tomorrow (assuming that him playing the last 3 games don't do anything towards his UFA date). if he doesn't play, i still want him around professionals, practicing and for Lou to speak with him.

this is a no brainer to me

#1182484 GDT New Jersey Devils vs. The Isles 7pm MSG+

Posted by sundstrom on 02 April 2013 - 09:25 AM

The Devils were 16-6 in OT/shootout games last year.  They are 3-9 this year.   Parise was a big part of that with his shootout ability, there's no doubt, but people think last year's team was this amazing club - they snuck into 6th by virtue of dominating the shootout and OT.  Had they gone 6-16, like the Devils would be on pace to do in an 82 game season, they would've been tied for 8th place with the Senators and Capitals, and certainly would've been in much more of a dogfight for the playoffs.

this is an amazing point that doesn't get enough play. think about it - if the devils are 6 and 6 in OT/Shootout, that's 3 more points which shockingly changes the whole complexion of a lot of arguments.

what are the reasons the devils are where they are right now?

1) Bad Goaltending

2) Bad OT/Shoot Out Record

3) Low S%

4) Injuries

5) Poor Use of Lines (i.e. Gionta)

That's it guys - in that order.

#1180488 Jagr?

Posted by sundstrom on 25 March 2013 - 01:46 PM

does anyone really think that age should have anything to do with renting jagr for the stretch run and playoffs. i would have no interest in resigning him. i'm sure that would go into the trade (conditional pick). make it urbom/conditional 3rd if he resigns with the devils.

i like the idea of playoff game 1:

and it's insurance if kovy doesn't come back.

Posted by sundstrom on 20 February 2013 - 04:42 PM

I real question, why the hell is Deboer starting Tallinder over Fayne again.

because tallinder is also a good defenseman and the guy that SHOULD sit won't in part because he's the captain of the team.

#1151775 What will the Devils do for season ticket holders?

Posted by sundstrom on 20 September 2012 - 06:52 PM

2% isn't worth letting them keep the money. Ill be requesting for a refund.

2% is much better than any bank's interest rate on savings. unless you're going to daytrade that $2k with the hopes of making more or just choose to spend it on something else in a sort of "buyers remorse" on your tickets, you'd might as well leave it.

#1150123 VBK gets a stay of execution?

Posted by sundstrom on 07 September 2012 - 08:44 AM

If true, I see it as 2 years near the cap floor as he tries to be able to pay it.

sorry, i don't see this as that big an issue on team salary. sure, they won't have the ability to bury $10mm in the minors but we're probably looking at a Cap Range of $45mm floor - $60MM cap when we come out of the lockout. The Devils will be somewhere in the middle. I'm not expecting some sort of doomsday where clarkson, zajac and elias all bolt after this year because the devils have to be kovy and league minimum guys.

i know the league wanted him out but its really very hard to do that if an owner can cobble something together.

#1141588 Taormina signs with Lightning

Posted by sundstrom on 06 July 2012 - 12:07 PM

he was a nice player. i wish him well. with the emergence of harrold and his subsequent re-signing, taormina became expendable.

#1141586 Should the New Jersey Devils Consider Going After Alexander Semin?

Posted by sundstrom on 06 July 2012 - 12:03 PM

i would go as high as 5/32 for him and be quite happy. this is a good player. if his name was joey canadachuk from moose jaw, he'd be looking at offers of 8/50.

You're in Vegas? What else are you hearing out there?

I can believe it if that's what Holland actually said. I think they are prioritizing a run at Suter and then maybe looking at a guy like Semin for some scoring up front if the money and term is reasonable. They do have the idea of playing with Datsyuk that they can dangle in front of Semin. If not, then I wouldn't be totally shocked if they looked at the trade market. They have some prospects if they wanted to move them.

I don't think Holland would feel comfortable spending what Parise may ultimately get despite the possibility he could go to the division rival like the Wild. Defense is a clear and more pressing need for the Wings.

I am in Vegas, yes. The full story is that I was sitting in a bar @ Wynn and the table next to me is Holland, Dave Poile ( who is actually 10 feet away from me at rhe pool as i tupe this) their wives and another guy I recognized but could not name.

So I go to Holland "as a devils fan, please leave Parise alone". He smiles and goes "don't worry. We're not doing that."

Poile laughs and goes "what about my guy?" to Holland.

I go "yeah, leave Parise for me and Suter for him".

Holland laughs and looks at Poile an goes " don't worry about Parise."

They were all laughing an it would not surprise me at all if both these guys knew what their plans were on 7/1 but still a funny story.
