Alas, the you suck people. The reason we can't have nice things.

The way the FB Devils fans make it seem, they really NEED the "you suck" part. It's the air that they breath and without it they are suffocating and having their fan experience ruined by the inability to shout in unison with thousands of other man-childred "you suck"
Reminds me of the dopes who say they'd rather have the pitcher who has an ERA approaching 4.00 but has a winning record vs. the one who has an ERA in the low-to-mid 2.00 range with a sub-.500 record because the guy with the higher ERA "knows how to win". Yeah, there's shades of gray here...an ERA can be bloated by a handful of putrid outings over the course of a season, and if you want to go into sabermetric territory you can bring up ballparks, etc...but the idea is to give up as few runs as possible so your team doesn't have to score as many runs to win. If the guy with the low ERA is pitching for a lousy offensive team and/or is leaving games with leads and seeing his bullpen cough those leads up, is his team really losing ithe games that guy starts because he doesn't know how to win?!
Marty's decent GAAs the past two seasons had everything to do with the team limiting shots...on a lot of other teams, it would have been 3.00 or higher. And Cory's GAA was light-years better than Marty's last season (1.97 to 2.51), so there goes the GAA argument with the fanboy crowd.
He actually argued the other way around by saying save % can be inflated by the team limiting the amount of shots on net. For a self-proclaimed scout of anything he sure is a dipsh!t when it comes to his own material. Not only that but he goes around like a friggin know-it-all and many people come and leave that group just because of him.
Also probably him defending Marty because of the other mods is a relative of Marty lol.
It's the NHL playoffs. There are no "team's of destiny". I know it is cliche as fvck, but it really is the toughest trophy to win. After the 1st round, there are 8 teams that feel really good about themselves and say "that there is just something special about this team." Maybe it's surviving elimination in round 1 or winning in game 7 OT. Maybe it is looking flat out dominant early on in the playoffs, but it's such a long ride and such a long grind...
It's very easy to get caught up in that stuff. Eventually, the magic or luck runs out and you just face a stronger team. The Devils were looking great in 2006 having won their last 11 regular season games including an incredible comeback on the final day of the season against Montreal to win the division. They came into the playoffs and swept their rivals. That was 15 in a row, and then they got beat up by the Canes.
Usually, the teams that don't talk about that destiny crap are the damn good teams that expect to be winning. Doubt you heard that from NJ fans in 2000, 2001, or 2003, but probably more often during the 2012 Cup run.
Back in my day "teams of destiny" used to be called teams on a "cinderella run"
We also used to tie onions to our belts, which was the style at the time.
They were talking about the ratings on WFAN earlier. Game 1 of the Cup Finals did a 10 in NYC. Game 1 of the NBA Finals did an 11 in NYC. So game 1 of the NBA Finals between two out-of-market teams still put up a better rating in NY than a Rangers Cup Finals game.
Bright lights of Broadway brah!
I guess some of the winds in the sails of the bandwagoners deflated a little after that game 1 loss. Game 2 loss (as well as every subsequent loss) will further weed out the bandwagon Rags fans.
