#1245437 All purpose Olympics thread

Posted by cgb6397 on 12 February 2014 - 07:16 PM

http://nesn.com/2014...olympic-opener/

Oh man this is funny. They Interviewed Nicklas Backstrom's 84 year old grandma before the game, and she said that "he'll make a fool of himself" at the Olympics, and that "he's played poorly for a long time", and even dissed the Caps, saying that "they had no game, as a whole."

Lmao. I'm dying. Old people do not give a sh!t

#1244240 Two Interesting Articles on Deboer

well fair to say we have no one remotely close to be a Zach in our system

Yeah but we picked up Bobby Butler and he was a perfect replacement

#1243387 Fire DeBoer Thread

Posted by cgb6397 on 01 February 2014 - 07:48 PM

He's a mediocre to poor coach.  He's not even average.  He's a good manager.  That's it.  He "manages".  He doesn't coach however.  His philosophy and system are pretty straightforward and mundane.  Any coach can be given a bunch of elite forwards and excellent depth like we had in 2012 and run to the Cup (and Devils fans need to stop hiding from the fact that we were extremely luckier than usually needed to advance).

He's bad at communicating adjustments and developing young talent and if discipline is an issue, that's entirely on the coach.

That's such a load of nonsense you just posted and you need to learn why if you expect to ever understand anything at all about hockey from a team perspective.

Not true. Just watch the games. We're competitive in nearly every game this year, credit that to a strong system, good bond between players, whatever, whatever, the bottom line is, our entire forward group is made up of guys that throw their body, play along the boards, create plays with their passing etc. and is severely lacking in pure scorers. Our only sniper is Ryder, and don't get me wrong, I love Ryder, but he's a B+ forward.

Jagr and Elias are our two best forwards, and while the fact that they're over 40 and pushing 40 respectively is a problem, their games have transformed since their earlier years, making them more passers than shooters. Combine this with the fact that most of our forwards are scoring at a pace under what we expect/ need them to (Zajac,Clowe,Henrique etc.) How can you say a lack of scoring isn't the problem?

#1224619 Anyone going to MSG tomorrow?

You would really think to position your seat as to avoid Rangers fans? I love sitting near opposing fans, there's a lingering feeling of a fight about to break out that's equally as exciting as the game. GO! and sit your ass right in Ranger country

I think it was implied

#1208137 Henrique re-signed. 6 years, 24 million.

I don't think anyone can doubt that those two series clinching goals bumped him another million a year.

#1205951 Summer 2013 UFA/RFA Thread

Posted by cgb6397 on 31 July 2013 - 10:00 PM

All joking aside, I have mixed feelings about Gomez going to Florida. I go to 20 or so Panthers games a season, so they're my adopted "second team" if I had one, so I'll likely be seeing a lot of Benedict Gomez. My girlfriend, who's new to hockey but crazy about the Devils, asked me about Gomez today while I was explaining that we'd be seeing a lot of him. She asked, "is he more hated than Parise?". Good question.

Trick question, Kovalchuk!

#1205420 Your thought on today / about the team so far ?

Posted by cgb6397 on 26 July 2013 - 11:33 AM

Agree  with both this and 118's post.    Elias is still the key player we can't afford to lose, but he has been pretty durable.

To you and 118, sure this team has key players that you would hate to go see down, but AI really believe even if it is Elias this year, we could overcome that injury

If a show being fake deters you from watching it, then you must not watch any. I hate to be cynical, but basically every "reality" show is complete bull

#1203088 [Official] Damien Brunner signed to multi-year deal

Posted by cgb6397 on 13 July 2013 - 01:16 PM

Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way. There was clearly a drop off in goals last year, as expected with the loss of Parise, now this year we'll be twice the drop off, as Clarky and Kovy are departing. With these three key figures gone, the style of play that brought us to the SCF will probably no longer work. So, instead of trying to create offense by signings, and signings, mind you of a weak FA class, we should work with what we have, and revert back to our old ways.

The Neutral Zone Trap folks. With the lack of goal scoring last year, we may as well have played the trap. So what I'm proposing, is put together a group of big, physical forwards (maybe sign Penner and put him in a bottom six, grinder role, maybe on a line with Carter and Bernier) and let our strong suit, our defensemen and the Marty/Schneider win us games.

#1201053 Tallinder traded to Buffalo.

Posted by cgb6397 on 08 July 2013 - 01:10 AM

we don't. we have salvador who yanks down anyone he plays with. i can only imagine how awful he will be over an 82 game season with another year on his body. then we've got volchenkov, who I still like way more than just about anyone on the board, but he's getting to the age where he can't be counted on 5 on 5. larsson hasn't proven he's all that good 5 on 5 yet. i like fayne and greene, but the rest is a bunch of question marks. and i like the prospects, but anyone expecting them to play at the level tallinder was capable of playing at is engaging in a little wishful thinking.

basically without tallinder and zidlicky, what was a strength is now not one.

You know we're really not far off base on what we think of our D-Men, but the fact of the matter is last year we lost because we couldn't score. We weren't losing games by three or four goal deficits, they were mostly 2-1 or 1-0 games.

#1200795 CLARKSON SIGNS w/TORONTO $36.75M / 7yrs

Posted by cgb6397 on 06 July 2013 - 12:33 PM

Anyone think it kind of speaks volumes to our player development/scouting programs that two years in a row we had the number one free agent, and two years in a row we willingly let them walk? In a good way I mean, I don't think there's a team in the NHL that identifies talent better than Lou and Conte
