#1130598 DeBoer’s Devils are class acts

Posted by msweet on 11 June 2012 - 10:27 AM

LOS ANGELES — It is a pleasure to spend time around a successful coach such as Pete DeBoer, who doesn’t feel the need to belittle professional journalists covering the Stanley Cup playoffs or strike a pose as the man who wants to win more than anyone else in the world.

The Devils reflect the equanimity presented by DeBoer throughout the tournament in good times and bad, much as the Bruins followed the lead of coach Claude Julien on their way to last year’s Cup; poised from the start to the finish line that is now in sight.

It bears remembering the Devils are still twice as far away from attaining historic victory as they are from the summer in confronting a third consecutive potential elimination match in tonight’s Game 6 that will surely test the stamina of 40-year-old Martin Brodeur and his fellow senior travelers. The seeds of doubt, however, have been planted in a Kings team that has faced an absence of adversity in a run to a 15-2 record in the tournament prior to Game 4.

He's not an NHL Playoff elite player.

He will command big $s.. not sure he is worth it

#1077527 Yet Another Reason Why Plus/Minus Is Stupid

Posted by msweet on 30 December 2011 - 11:50 AM

+/- is just one of many measures of a players performance and is of more use to compare players on the same team not team to team.
The Devils' current +/- is a fairly accurate description of the quality of play from each player relative to other Devils.

T, by your own admission "We all know they are having quite a bizarre season"
Which means stats, including +/- are going to deviate from what you see typically. You should not use an anomaly as an example to make your argument. Do the same analysis for say 10 teams and I'll bet your "difference" column won't look so off.

#981491 Langenbrunner Just scored for Dallas

Posted by msweet on 18 January 2011 - 11:31 AM

I dont get why someone would be upset over a, now ex-devil's career. Not to mention Langs is bigger in Dallas (pun not intended) then he was up here in NJ. He is a skilled player but he just didnt offer what was needed in the last year or two here. Thats fine and he should be able to go else where and prosper with his career. You guys shouldnt be sour about him at all. You shouldnt be sour about any other player that was once a Devil. Moving to a different team is part of the business. You cant judge someone just because they left NJ. He apparently has chemistry forming down there with his line mates which is great to see. Its nice to see someone jump ship intime.

Do the right thing here and be happy for the guy. Its the least you can do as a Devils fan for everything he gave us in the past.

I am sorry but I am not a hockey fan that is all about "feel-good"

I bleed Devils' red and when a player dogs-it or has a bad attitude and he is the captain no less...well good riddance... I don't hope he does well on any other team not named the Devils...fvck all other teams not named NJD....fvck all other players not in NJD uniforms.
