#1260301 Shanny to be named President of the Leafs

Posted by msweet on 11 April 2014 - 03:02 PM

Okay, I'm really going to be upset if DeBoer goes to Toronto.  We've had Sutter leave, Parise leave, Kovalchuk leave, Clarkson leave, and while some of these I'm more glad about than others, I'm tired of people just leaving.

Sutter was an idiot.

Can you re-post that and substitute Niedermayer for Sutter and then I can really feel your pain?

#1259516 In a Season of Problems, Brodeur was the Biggest

Posted by msweet on 08 April 2014 - 04:41 PM

Hahaha.  Blame Brodeur is nonense, but the inability to protect leads is on the coach, and has nothing to do with the goalie.  Well, now I've seen everything.

When did I say it has nothing to do with the goalie?

Please don't threaten me with your mod privileges. I didn't insult you. I said this post reminds me of Brodeur fanboys. If you want to nix me, that be a shame, but go for it it, sir.

"I think this is a perfect example of the Brodeur fanboys"

That is a direct reference and it is insulting. Respectful is what I am insisting on. Thanks for your cooperation.

I'm not a fan of the idea that you can calculate x number of wins that one goalie gets you versus another, which, so far as I can tell, is done using save percentage.   But, even if you think save percentage is not the end all-be all, it's not hard to conclude that giving the goalie that stops a much greater percentage of shots, say 60 to 65 randomly assigned games as opposed to the 48-50 he'll end up with, would have probably been good enough for a second wild card playoff berth.

And to be fair to Marty, it's not purely because he's so bad.  It's that the other goalie is probably one of the best in the league no matter how you want to slice it.

Basically this

This Blame-Marty is non-sense.

What killed us this year were (in order):

1. Our inability to score in shootouts. if we were 50% W, we'd be in the playoffs and this thread would not exist.

2. Our inability to score 5-5. Shut out too many times and we can't score even on backups and the other teams know it. (Blame Lou for having old scorers that can't score)

3. Our inability (blame the coach) to protect 3rd period and 2 goal leads. How many times do I have to see Zidlicy pinching down while we are up 3-1 or Jagr taking late 3rd period lazy shifts when we have the lead?

gotta love Carter. I called him out for his 2 penalties in the 3rd last game.. showed he knew he had to play better. Outstanding effort for him.

#1220332 Gelinas and Kinkaid sent to Albany

Posted by msweet on 27 October 2013 - 01:30 PM

Relax everyone. We are in a good position. It is very early in the season and we have too many quality defensemen including 2 young studs... Oh my what a problem.

Lou won't screw this up. Let him go slow and make the right move. Time is in his side. We are one injury away from looking really smart about how we constructed our roster.

All of our D men including Harrold are worth something.. And that is very good.

#1202388 Kovalchuk Retired Effective Immediately?

Posted by msweet on 11 July 2013 - 08:32 PM

This is a blessing in disguise.

Kovalchuk had some of his worst years here. He is was improving defensively but was never a difficult player to play against.

In the short term the Devils are worse. But in the long term I believe the organization will be better by getting back to the team first approach that has been the key to the team's success.

So Zach went home, Rafalski went home, Clarkson went home and now kovalchuk went home... who's next? Loktionov?

why can't Van Riemsdyk, Ryan, Carlson and wtv want to come back here... NJ really have to start producing more talent lol

(i know ryan was a flyers fan)

Fvck Kovy. In Lou we trust. That is all.

Yes on all above..

I am not surprised by any of this... We got Kovy's 3 best years, and we got out of a contract which will look worse each year. ...and the Devils' agree as you can see by letting him go so easily.

This hurst short term but will help long term... let a player who was a 25-30 goal scorer with a $6M (costs the team $10M in dollars) contract go ..

you betcha we would...

Makes sense for Kovy too.. play offense, no D, be a star and make much more $'s

#1202349 The "Now That We've Had Time To Digest This Thread"

Posted by msweet on 11 July 2013 - 08:05 PM

I actually was not surprised. When I saw him play for the KHL this past Spring and saw him having fun scoring goals and skipping on the getting hit and the not having to play D... I thought to myself, this guy is either nuts or really wants a shot at the Cup...

In my mind he was passing up $5M per year to have to be subjected to the play in the NHL

We got the 3 best years, saved a ton of money and it would hurt in another 2 or 3 when he's a 25 goals scorer....

No hard feelings... he actually did us a favor.

I am still pissed at the league over the penalty, but that's life.

#1201434 Lou Lamoriello E-Mailed Me!!!

Posted by msweet on 09 July 2013 - 05:04 PM

Many years ago I wrote Lou a letter asking him to retire Daneyko's number and he wrote me back saying to be patient and gave the letter to Daneyko who showed up at my work with the letter himself to say thank you in person.

#1200297 CLARKSON SIGNS w/TORONTO $36.75M / 7yrs

Posted by msweet on 05 July 2013 - 01:10 PM

I understand your point, but Bobby was always a good player - I dont think the Devils can take credit for that.  The only loss for the Devils is that he would have been a great captain and vet here - mutually beneficial for everyone.  The way it went down - no real loss for the Devils.  And end of a fulfilling career for Bob.

Clarkson wasn't going to be any great shakes here.  Hence no stupid deal.  He won't be great shakes in Toronto but thank the lord he'll have a great life.  Party-time may be over --- or else he risks losing what he worked for in his personal life.  This is perfect - he's sewed up his earning years -- he WILL earn and there's no risk for him.  Man, his whole career has been on the line for long enough - busting his ass and living in fear that he wouldn't make it.  Now it's a done deal and he doesn't even have to pull up stakes - he can relax where he wants to be.  It's like the Parise move if anything and luckily David doesn't have those Cup ambitions Zach will always have burning.

I'm really happy for him where I was really sorry for Holik.  I still am sorry for all that Holik lost.  Money doesn't make up for that.  and no one wants to hear about hockey from him now because of that stupid deal.  If he'd stayed here he'd have been free to blather all over the NHL and he'd be a proven leader so his word would have been the gosple he thinks it is.  It just sucks for him.  But he's got enough money so he can shoot at Lou photo targets and weep softly blame it on the beautiful vista from his porch.   Yeah sure you always wanted to be a rancher... sure.

Well put...Holik was a traitor though since he knew what you wrote and went for the money with our enemy... Clarkson is doing what actually makes the most sense
