Kovy is, and has always been, a classic sniper. And while his offensive skill set is completely superior to that of any other player on our team both in terms of technical ability and vision, he's not a typical playmaker. If you want him to produce points at his maximum potential, you need to put him a) on left wing b) next to some kind of playmaker. You want Kovy on the side of our PP firing bombs, not playing QB at the back. There's only a handful of players that "produce" anything solo in the entire game of hockey. And even those guys (Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Ovie) usually have more talent on their lines then Kovy does.

NBA defense is better than college defense.
dr33, the thing that will block this in hockey are the GMs/league themselves. They already had the beginnings of this sort of data when the Fox Glow Puck was used. Given how terrible the league is at data keeping in general, and how the NHL GMs are a huge old boys club (seriously, you're either an ex-NHL player or the son of a GM/coach or both), it's unlikely that we see this in the next 10 years.
On a sidenote: I miss the Fox Glow Puck.

If Kovy didn't sign with us, and instead signed to a team who had a clue how to utilise his assets, you would be calling for Lou's head as Kovy racked up the points.
Of course, right now, the team is playing terrible, and the lines make no sense, nor does the strategy of the Power Play. Our star forward for the next decade+ is on the wrong side of the ice, and is playing a different game then the one that earned him the big contract. Tell me how that makes sense.

You just have to stop looking for logic amongst the Kovy haters man.. Let it go.

It's painfully clear that this guy is not the same player as a member of the Devils. It's like putting a square peg in a round hole. I've had some discussions/arguments with friends back home in NJ, and I hear the same things all the time, but they fail to make sense:
- "He's playing out of position at right wing": Well if it's affecting him that much, then that's just stupid coaching. That also doesn't explain most of 2010-11.
Whatever the reason(s), this guy will single handledly drag this team down for the next several years. No team would ever take this contract off our hands for a guy whose goal production has basically been cut in half when comparing his Trashers years since the lockout (220 G in 367 GMS, 0.6 per game) to his Devils years (46 G in 126 GMS, 0.36 per game).
Can't even begin to describe how flawed your logic is. You seriously think the exact point in time this guy signed a contract with NJ, is the same exact time he passed his peak? He's been a point pr game guy his entire NHL career, and yet you're pointing the finger at him for not being able to continue his production in Jersey? Never struck you that something about the way the Devs are playing, the way the team is built/coached, his role on the ice, and/or quality of his new teammates could be inhibiting his potential in any way?
Let's at at least give him a shot at LEFT WING with an actual NHL quality center a few months before we give up on him. Oh wait, that actually happened the second half of last season! Incidentally, Kovy was completely awesome and by far and away our best player.
Kovy for a $6,67M cap hit is nothing short of a steal in this league. If you can't see that I cant really help you.

And in a stunning development, Kovy scored our only goal so far.
Seriously, you and unknown poster and the rest of the idiots who hate "kovalchoke" should go jump off a very tall building. Do us all a favor. Make sure you burn ken's pile of jerseys first too.

Lemaire came back, we played 7 out of 8 games like terrible sh!t and then barely lost for the rest of the year. All the while Kovalchuk was sh!tting on people. Bad fit with the organization my ass, the organization is just using him wrong.

There's a reason he's scored the 2nd most goals in the league since 05/06.. Even after playing on a sh!tty offensively devs team for 18 months.
If you're not gonna build your team around making your $100M sniper produce, then why even bother signing him. He needs to play LW, and he needs a talented center on his line.

I'd like to see him and Parise swap lines tbh.
