The C is not a popularity contest and the C should not automatically go to the best player on the team points-wise.

The captain is the in-between with the refs and the coaching staff. Language barriers (Kovalchuk is not a native English speaker) do not help with this.

The captain has to be a leader on the ice and in the locker room. We don't see Salvador in the locker room but the coaches do--that should tell you something.

The captain has experience, leadership qualities, proven himself under stressful situations and is a team player. Salvador's career could have been over two years ago but he came back stronger and better than at any point in his career.

I laughed when Crosby was named captain of the Penguins at such a young age. If I was a 35 year old NHL veteran, I wouldn't have taken him seriously, even if he put up 200 points a season.

The players can't cave at this point. It has to be their agreement. They gave way too much in the last CBA and they've offered to give away a ton again. This is a profitable league the way it stands. If the NHL has teams losing money it's their problem and has nothing to do with the players. The players have given enough. There shouldn't be teams in Nashville, Phoenix, Florida and so on. You could even argue New Jersey (I know... just saying...) Bettman and co. are at fault for the locations of these franchises. This isn't about us as fans this is about the players and their payers. The owners can't control themselves from themselves and that is why we are where we are. It has nothing to do with the players. The players have given plenty.

The Rangers only hope is Lundqvist. He bailed them out the first two rounds to the 7th and 8th seeds and he'll have pull a miracle out of his ass to win this one. If he can do it. The Devils have to stop trying to turn this guy into something that he is not. He needs to be on the left side in all situations and they need to pair him with a playmaker. (Elias) He is our current edition of Almo. He needs to concentrate on getting in the clear for quality shots on goal and his playmaker needs to get him the puck in the clear. Ala what Gomez did for Mogilny. We don't have a Gomez any more and Elias is our closest thing. Kovy on the point on the PP is just plain dumb. The Devils problem is they have no one else to do it. Larrson just simply isn't ready yet.
