#1271095 2014 Draft Thread

Posted by NJDevs4978 on 28 June 2014 - 02:13 PM

Jacobs probably won't smell NHL till he is 21/22, at that point Merrill maybe pushing UFA and it is giving you options.

Oh goody, we're preparing for Merrill's FA but we're not preparing for Elias/Jagr to retire and filling other needs up front.

Good god some of you really think the worst of Lou.  If he wasn't going to give Clarkson a nutball contract last year he sure as shooting isn't giving it to another role player in Bolland this year.

#1270093 Backup Goaltender for Next Season - SCOTT CLEMMENSEN signed

Posted by NJDevs4978 on 24 June 2014 - 02:57 PM

It's amazing how Marty says a bunch of good things in the article like this

“A lot of the conversation I had with him was to make sure we need to take care of Schneids,” Brodeur said. “I think that’s the main goal he has to worry about from my point of view. I’m sure he’s thinking the same. He’s been pretty open about it as far as wanting to get Cory back and signed and lock him in so they don’t have to worry about a goalie for six, seven more years. And it was the same in some of the conversations I had with him. So, it wasn’t really about a role (for him) or whatever, but, again, at his age, (Schneider) needs to start playing more hockey and see if he can take the load of 70-something games that I was able to do for so many years.

“Me and Lou, we have a great relationship and I think we understand both sides of the medal here,” Brodeur said. “For me, the future of the Devils is a lot more important than my future.”

And yet the only thing that gets attention around here is the blurb that Lou is probably going to wait to see what Marty does (which granted is a bit disconcerting unless that means they have enough confidence in Kinkaid that if Marty doesn't return it's likely he'll start the season as a backup if all the good backups are signed by the time Marty goes somewhere else).  Which causes people to rag on Marty again.

Yes I didn't like the way he was popping off during the season but it's over now.  He knows the deal here and he's been dare I say back to his old self personality-wise since the season ended.

#1266529 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Yes, Quick's stats are not up to par, but you all are missing the the fact that Quick has face more shots than anyone in the playoffs....Quick has faced almost 80 more shots than Lundquist. Is it the team bailing Quick out? Or maybe the Kings suck at defense. Yes, SV% is a huge part of the argument, but its difficult for a goalie to maintain a high SV% when he faces a high volume of shots every night and Quick has made some amazing saves in the Chicago series, despite his shoddy SV%, one stop on the Hawks on a big chance very late in the 3rd.

Quick's also played one more game and a bunch of OT's. The Rangers have had two short OT's in the entire playoffs.

McDonagh and Brassard went to Yanks--Twins Saturday. Hung out some with Mauer, who McDonagh knows from Minnesota. Met GM Brian Cashman.

Brassard on meeting Cashman: "He said congratulations. By the way, I'm a Devils' fan."

#1265702 The 2014 NJ Devils Offseason Thread

I think you guys are taking Pete too literally.  He banished Marty for long stretches in late January and late in the season.  He's just saying what he has to say for public consumption because let's face it, Marty's still a lot more popular than Pete.  You're not going to get anywhere publicly ripping Marty, no matter whether it's true or not.

Personally I'd be a lot more worried about what Lou says/does vis-a-vis Marty than Pete.

And before anyone comes back with well the Habs would beat the Bruins first in that scenario well sure, I actually picked the Habs over the Bruins before the playoffs started.  It's all about the rivalry.  You could put pee wee hockey players in those jerseys and they'd probably go seven tight games.

In the end it wound up taking 93 to make the playoffs. So much for 91.

#1259593 In a Season of Problems, Brodeur was the Biggest

Posted by NJDevs4978 on 08 April 2014 - 09:57 PM

As for 3rd period leads - it's a fluke.  Nothing that can be done.  The trouble is that NJ doesn't lead by 2 enough.  They prevent shots just fine - 5 on 5 with a lead, they give up the fewest shots of anyone, even taking into account the Devils' scorer.  When you have a goalie as bad as Brodeur is, really anything can happen.

Columbus, Edmonton, Vancouver, Florida, etc...they blow two and three-goal leads just as much as they blow one-goal leads.  It's not a fluke when it's been a trend throughout Pete's three years here.

If anything the loser point HURTS Pete's record as opposed to something keeping it afloat, since everyone's shootout wins put their point totals farther above ours.

And if we won six shootouts instead of 12 in 2012 we'd STILL be the sixth seed.

Yeah?  When's our 'favorable' schedule kicking in then?  Any decade now I suppose :P

#1247114 RUMOR: Callahan to be traded as per Boomer Esiason

Posted by NJDevs4978 on 23 February 2014 - 10:26 PM

Why is it so inconceivable that Boomer - a guy who has a TON of local connections - could have a source on a Ranger trade ahead of the national guys that don't have those kind of relationships with the local team?  Or that someone wouldn't leak it to him first precisely because he's a high-profile fan.  It's not like he's Spike Lee where he's just a famous fan, he's actually in the media.

If anything Brooks confirmed there've at least been discussions to that end, although my regard for St. Louis would be lessened a bit if he did indeed want out just because he got bypassed by his GM for Team Canada.

Of course Kovy has to score three in the shootout, reminding us why we can no longer win one :P

#1235809 GDT: Blackhawks @ DEVILS 7PM

Posted by NJDevs4978 on 03 January 2014 - 10:46 PM

this is all true and I don't disagree one bit, however stereo's original complaint was how the hawks have so much talent and we don't. If you take off toews and Kane from that team suddenly their talent isn't so impressive.

lol they still have Sharp, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook and a host of other good role players.

#1235528 Stadium Series Game: Are you going?

Posted by NJDevs4978 on 03 January 2014 - 01:15 AM

If the tickets were magically $50, everyone and their mother is looking for tickets.

They're going to sell out with tickets averaging like $200 and up and there'd still be a wait list if there was such a thing for this game, I'd say just about everyone and their mother wants tickets as it is.  Of course people would want tickets at $50, they're buying them at $200-400!

You could say the same thing about any game - no **** more people'll jump if prices are lower.  But that's not the reality - there's obviously an 'event premium' on this game.  If they're selling out at the current prices then clearly more than enough people are buying them where price isn't an issue for enough people to matter.

I just think you and the others who like to bash the fanbase are using a handful of people flip-flopping on an internet message board as another excuse to whine about Devil fans.
