I think that when one says that Elias *might* miss training camp and that things are progressing better than expected, that insinuates that they would be ready to start the season.
The Post article today says that Elias still isn't working out, but he can do more and more exercising each day. The viral counts are low and he's feeling much better. The article starts out with saying that Elias is unsure if he will be ready for the start of training camp. Unsure seems a whole lot better than dismissing it out of hand.
But I'm holding you to your word that he will be out until after Christmas:
