What we need is a good defensive minded coach. Deboer is not it. When you have a slower roster, offensive minded systems don't work. Just look at the Devils from 2005-2008. Specifically focus on the 2007-2008 Devils. http://www.hockey-re...s/NJD/2008.html
How did THAT team win 46 games, and finish with 99 points? Well the big reason was because Marty was amazing that year. But the other big reason was because of coaching. Brent Sutter had a good defensive system in place. I don't believe for a second that that roster is better than the current one. The 07-08 team had 3 players finish with 50 or more points, and one player finish with 60 points. And our current defense is much better than that team.
I think if the current Devils were to have a good defensive coach, we'd have more wins than we do know. Deboer is too offensive minded, and his system is terrible for the roster we currently have. The neutral zone play is bad. Even if there is no better coach available, I still think a shakeup is in order. Hell just change things up. It wouldn't hurt to try.
