New York tourism accounts for 60+ million people traveling here per year, they were always going to need 3-4 airports to serve that amount of people, with the New Jersey one having to be in either Hudson or Essex Counties to service them.

Without that tourism factor (which is a ridiculous number of people to be coming in and out of here), half of New Jersey being a 1-2 hour drive to Philly's international airport, and the other half being a 1-3 (traffic) hour drive to JFK/LGA would probably be enough grounds for New Jersey to not get its own very well-served 3-terminal international airport. But yeah, 60+ million people go to New York, so they needed New Jersey to have a legit airport.

Jersey City/Hudson County's only booming now because NYC really can't fit more new development. Port Elizabeth is one of the biggest ports in the nation because NYC couldn't fit any more port infrastructure. Ikea was in Elizabeth because they previously couldn't secure any deals to put one in NYC til Bloomberg opened the floodgates to certain areas of development. Jersey Gardens is not where it is because it's exclusively for the people of North Jersey, and so on and so on. And that's all a metaphor for a lot of North Jersey's infrastructure, population, mentality, etc. really.

We're all very confused as a population, and slightly "used" even. Especially now, the hipsters and yuppies are moving up here because they can't afford Brooklyn. They have no interest establishing roots here or respecting and participating in the roots that did exist before they got here; they're in and out in 4-5 years until their "NYC adventure" is over and all the amenities they need (the Whole Foods and Starbucks and vegan grocery stores) have popped up just for them; its growth is similar to a mining town, and in the middle of all of it, NEW JERSEY culture, landmarks, establishments, philosophy, accents, personalities, and pride are taking and will take the hit. It's harder to find a Taylor Ham, Egg, and Cheese or a good sandwich or pizza here in 2015 than it was in 2005. But I can find you 4 different brands of quinoa at my local grocery store now. New Jerseyans are moving to North Carolina and Florida.

The Devils sucking right now isn't doing us any favors on the sports end, we're already a dying breed. We're well represented all over the country and yet we're a dying breed here in New Jersey. That's why the mentality up here is so volatile when it comes to sports. All this pushing and pulling that NYC does to our culture and actual physical world takes its toll, and to zoom back in a little bit, it manifests itself in there being "Rangers bars" in Hoboken and Jersey City, and "New York" Red Bulls being a team. It manifests itself in "Jersey pride!" people posting "I Bleed Blue" on their Facebook and Modells carrying 14 different Rangers jerseys to the 1 or 2 Devils jerseys they have in stock.

I'm starting to sound like thecoffeecake!

It's pathetic. That's all I can say. Pathetic. Let these stupid fvcking hipsters go live in the Bronx or Queens or Staten Island so they can lame up those sh!tholes with their hipster vegan caramel macchiato frappucino bullsh!t. And anyone who claims 'Jersey Pride!!' and 'I Bleed Blue!!' in the same sentence needs a swift kick in the tooth. If you're from Jersey and root for that sack of sh!t franchise, you aren't a real New Jerseyan- you're a fraud wanna-be NY'er. So do me a favor and get the fvck out of my state.

#1316362 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Posted by MadDog2020 on 11 May 2015 - 12:19 PM

I'm not saying that yet. Things can change quickly. I do think the Rangers will win, but things change fast in the play-offs.

As soon as Kreider scored the tying goal in game 5, I knew where this was headed. As I said last night- as easy to predict as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west. The Caps just can't close to save their lives.

#1315618 Lou Lamoriello Appreciation Thread

Posted by MadDog2020 on 04 May 2015 - 06:56 PM

For the first time in 28 years, it's no longer Status Quo. For the first time since I was 8 years old, Lou Lamoriello is no longer the General Manager of the New Jersey Devils. It is truly the End of an Era, and what an era it was. 3 Cups. 5 Eastern Conference Championships. 9 division titles. 21 playoff appearances in 28 years. Making perennial winners out of what was once called a 'Mickey Mouse operation'. Lou is one of a kind. He IS the New Jersey Devils. He has made the Devils what they are. Without him, this franchise would've been in Nashville years ago. He gave us everything he had, he made the Devils feared and respected, and he did it his way all the way to the end. So I wanted to say THANK YOU LOU. Thank you for raising the bar as high as it could go. Thank you for making winners out of the Devils. Thank you for giving us a team we could be proud of year after year. Thank you for always striving to make this organization the best it can be. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING. And congratulations on an amazing career!831c49587f13cf0ddfdeb5f94f58d944.jpg

Tough when you have to beat two teams. Hopefully the Caps win both in DC and have a chance to stomp these fvckers out for good in front of the all the suits and hipsters at the World's Most Overrated sh!thole.

I really wish that those of us here in the Tri-State had the option of watching the national broadcast instead of this 3-hour long Ranger infomercial.

#1314053 What would you trade for McDavid

Posted by MadDog2020 on 18 April 2015 - 09:14 PM

Its based on the idea that he would demand a trade like he should if he had any sense

Look, this whole idea he should demand a trade is ludicrous. McDavid changes the game for any franchise he goes to. Edmonton will not continue to suck with him there now. People need to just accept it and drop the whole 'Duhhhh Edmonton' meme, because even they can't fvck this kid up. And even in the event he wanted to act like a little entitled bitch and demand a trade, we have nowhere near the assets it would take.

Just lock the thread lol. They wouldn't take the whole franchise if we offered it.

#1313767 Lou's Future

Posted by MadDog2020 on 16 April 2015 - 04:45 PM

Great Lou story, piggybacking on the discussion about 90-91: my first experience ever sitting in a luxury box for a Devs game was game 6 against Pittsburgh in the playoffs that year (I was 12 years old). My dad's buddy's company had a box, and he had two extras and invited us. The box was right in back of who else's box- Lou's. My dad encouraged me to ask Lou to sign my program, but he was a pretty intimidating guy, particularly to a 12-year old kid like myself. So what happens next is the Boschman no goal. Some of the long-timers remember this disaster, I'm sure. In the second period with the Devils trailing 4-3, Laurie Boschman had what would've been the tying goal go in off his skate. It was clearly not kicked in. The TV replays confirmed this, but the NHL didn't use TV replays to decide those types of calls back then, and I guess the angle they looked at had some kind of fvcked up viewpoint that made it somehow look like Boschman kicked this puck in... Trust me- he didn't. Anyway, the goal gets waved off, everyone in the place loses their sh!t, and Lou picks up this TV monitor that was in front of him, SLAMS the sh!t out of it, and storms out of the box. I mean, he fvcked this monitor up, it didn't display a picture for the rest of the game after that. The Devils wound up losing 4-3, and then they got blown out in game 7. Pittsburgh went on to their first Cup. I still think we were robbed in that series to this day. What's cool is Lou came back later to his box, and my father asked him to sign my program (I thought Lou would stab me if I asked him for an autograph after I saw him go ape on that monitor 8 feet in front of my face lol). He actually couldn't have been nicer, and he signed my program... Which I still have btw.

Could Stevens become HC and Oates Assistant GM along with Brodeur as Assistant GM splitting assignments? One being Lou's replacement in a couple of years. Owners can afford.

#1310568 If we pick 7th.... Who would you choose.

The Devils have a very difficult stretch coming up - it's not particularly likely that they stay in 8th.

From your lips to God's ears...

Clearly Hank is benefiting from the team and system in front of him and isn't really all that talented, if an unproven kid can come in and put up similar numbers.

See what I did there?

Trap brah. System brah. Fatso brah.
