#1098742 30th Anniversary: McMullen Still Most Important

Posted by MadDog2020 on 12 March 2012 - 09:01 PM

I would still like to see McMullen honored somewhere in or around the arena. It doesn't have to be anything as crazy as what the Steelers have for the Chief, but something should be done for the man who brought the team here IMO.

Yep, I've been beating this drum for a while. Say what you want about McMullen- he certainly wasn't a perfect owner. But he is the reason we have the franchise we all love. There would be no Devils if it wasn't for Dr. McMullen. I had hoped they would change the name of Championship Plaza to McMullen Plaza. I think it would be a very nice tribute.

#1093682 Devils interest in Dustin brown

Posted by MadDog2020 on 24 February 2012 - 11:39 AM

food for thought:

greene/henrique/4th for brown/martinez

it's a gamble of a deal - it comes down to whether you think henrique could be a 30/70 guy in this league or not.

I'm not feeling trading Henrique at all. I bristle at the mear thought of it.

Today wasn't our day. Plain and simple. Just forget it and move on, as much as it sucks. On to Buffalo.

Wow so much for that. Broduer is awful right now. Whats going to be the excuse this year? We're heading in the same direction and nobody of any major significance is hurt. Are we just rebuilding or old or do the Devils just suck? Because i'm going with them just sucking. They aren't a good hockey team at all.

Right, no one of any significance is hurt. Only the top 2 centers, but they aren't really important.

Rule #1 of working in the NY media: Blindly hate the Devils because they don't play in NY, and are wildly more successful than any NY team not named the Yankees, while secretly wishing the Devils played at Madison Square Garden instead of the current laughinstock that does.

I just saw it on the Devils Facebook. If someone has a link, feel free to post it, as I'm on a Blackberry at work. Just wanted to get the info up and let everyone know.

3 canes games we have to win, and we can believe.

Yeah. And we owe those motherfvckers more than any team has owed any other team in the history of fvcking sports. At the very least, we fvck their chances of making the playoffs. Let's start administering some payback, eh?

#987244 Raising No. 27

Posted by MadDog2020 on 04 February 2011 - 08:53 PM

The years were great. Too bad he wasn't until 10 years into his career. I don't want it to seem like I'm getting on the guy for being a very good player, but we are talking about a number retirement.

Ken Daneyko has his number retired, and he's not a HOF'er. Niedermayer is. Niedermayer became a HOF player while he was still a Devil. He deserves to have his number retired by this organization. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on Nieds (I, quite frankly, can't understand the lingering biterness among some and it drives me insane, but whatever), but no one can deny that #27 deserves to go to the rafters.

#973761 GDT: YOUR NEW JERSEY DEVILS VS NY RANGERS 12/29 7PM

Posted by MadDog2020 on 29 December 2010 - 10:14 PM

This team is just cursed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when the Rock was being built, didn't they have to tear up a very old cemetary on that plot of land? I thought I read that somewhere. That might explain the luck this team has had since moving to Newark.

#784712 So, Who's Left?

Phil Kessel's out there as well. Not looking like he's headed back to Boston...

http://www.examiner....out-Phil-Kessel

He'll be out for the first couple months of the season recovering from shoulder surgery, but after that, is there any reason to believe he won't return to form?

We don't have the pieces to trade, nor do we have the money to sign Kessel. Never happen.

#784435 Brodeur also excited to see Lemaire return

Posted by MadDog2020 on 14 July 2009 - 05:04 PM

Hard to even compare this 2009 team with the 1995 team. Yes there will be veterans and young players mixed in again with this 2009 team like it was in 1995, but it is missing the great, solid defense of 1995 with Stevens, Niedermayer, Daneyko, Driver, Chambers, Albelin and Fetisov. Way better defenseman in 1995 than what the devils have now. Cannot even compare that...

Just for the record, Fetisov wasn't on the Cup team. He was- ironically enough- traded to Detroit at the deadline that year.

If I may add a little constructive criticism: The new quote feature is pretty annoying... it makes every post so damn big.

Kinda feels like 1995 again because we have a lot of young new players.

Dude weren't you 2 in 95? :P Not that I'd know how 95 felt either.

Me neither :( .. I was 6

Agreed, on all counts. I also love what Peluso said in a postg-game interview: "The Cup doesn't have very far to go- right through the Lincoln Tunnel".

Ugh, you people.... you're making me feel so old.... I was in my early twenties.

LOL, I was a sophomore in high school in '95... I feel old too with all these young'ins. :P

I was a freshman surrounded by Ranger fans. Too bad school was out by the time the finals were over.

Unfortunatley, I was surrounded by a lot of Ranger fans at my school too. One of them, who was a good friend at the time, busted my balls mercilessly for '94. So the night we won the Cup, I called him to give it right back... he hung up on me. I immediately called back. He hung up on me again. I smiled a wide smile and proceded to party all night. Ah, the great memories of the '95 Cup. :D

Yeah, man. The taunting after 1994 was so harsh. That's why 95 will always be my favorite Cup. It was the culmination of a slow build that started with Johnny Mac in Chicago in '88 and included 2 Game 7 losses to the Rangers. Only thing sweeter would have been beating the Rangers on the way to the finals.

Agreed, on all counts. I also love what Peluso said right after game 4: "The Cup doesn't have very far to go- right thorough the Lincoln Tunnel".
