Then...

"While we're at it," he said, "we're going to close Guantanamo. And we're going to restore habeas corpus. ... We're going to lead by example _ by not just word but by deed. That's our vision for the future."
Now...

"President-elect Barack Obama said this weekend that he does not expect to close Guantanamo Bay in his first 100 days in office. "I think it's going to take some time and our legal teams are working in consultation with our national security apparatus as we speak to help design exactly what we need to do," Obama said in an exclusive "This Week" interview with George Stephanopoulos, his first since arriving in Washington. "It is more difficult than I think a lot of people realize,".
Really.
Now this..
http://blogs.abcnews...-calls-for.html
"And eventually sacrifice from everyone?" I asked.
"Everybody’s going to have to give. Everybody’s going to have to have some skin in the game," Obama said."
"Skin in the Game?" This from a guy who did not have a dime to his name in 2000 according to his book and now after handouts from Chicago politicians he wants to run a socialist regime?
I give enough now in taxes, no more and no skin.

Watching the tv ad's for the movie "The Wrestler", I could have sworn I saw "Convention Hall". Yeah, it is in the movie I guess for only a few seconds but damn it makes me proud that I grew up at the shore.

This is pathetic... The Detroit School system gives 11K per kid, DC is 11.5 and the worst in the country in regards to our public schools:
Detroit School Lacks Toilet Paper, Light Bulbs
Donations Accepted Beginning Jan. 12
POSTED: Wednesday, January 7, 2009
UPDATED: 8:34 pm EST January 7, 2009
DETROIT -- A Detroit elementary school is asking for donations of toilet paper and light bulbs to keep their school functioning.
The principal of the Academy of Americas sent a letter to staff, parents and partners asking for donations of items "that are of the utmost importance for proper school functioning and most importantly for student health and safety."
In the letter, Principal Naomi Khalil cited budget constraints within the district as the reason why the school could no longer stock the items.
The district is grappling with a more than $400 million budget deficit and is on the verge of being assigned an emergency financial manager by the state.
The letter asks for toilet paper, paper towel rolls, trash bags and 60, 100 or 150-watt light bulbs.
"We realize that the economic situation is stressful for our entire community, but we are asking for your collaboration," wrote Khalil. "We thank you for your cooperation and we hope that as a school community we can pull together to guarantee the best possible educational environment for our children."
Parents said a letter went out asking for supplies at the start of the school year.
"They sent out a letter for pencils, pens, they put Kleenex on there," said parent Danny Huddleston.
A spokeswoman for the district said the school is not running out of supplies but instead is asking for them to ensure they have sufficient supplies to what they already have.
But at least one parent said he doesn't mind helping out the school no matter the circumstance.
"I'm all about helping the school. If that's what they need then that's what we need to see what we can do to help the out," said Juan Oroczo.
Donations are being accepted at the school's font office, beginning Jan. 12.
They still have enough on hand, just asking for more donations.. whatever.

Monica Conyers On Educational Trip To Israel
POSTED: Wednesday, January 7, 2009
UPDATED: 6:24 pm EST January 7, 2009
DETROIT -- Detroit City Council President Monica Conyers is en route to Israel to learn about that country and conflicts with its neighbors.
Spokeswoman Denise Tolliver said Conyers is to arrive Thursday in Jerusalem on the seven-day American Israel Education Foundation's African-American Leadership Mission.
She and other leaders from across the U.S. will visit Israel's borders with Lebanon and Syria and meet with Palestinian and Israeli reporters.
Conyers has been criticized for spending time away from the Detroit City Council and the cost of her security detail.
Conyers did not mention her absence to all her co-workers. Council member Kwame Kenyatta said he learned about her trip Wednesday afternoon when Local 4 reporter Roger Weber asked him to comment on it.
Conyers was also absent from the council for over a month in the summer for a surgery she never revealed.
Conyers' will miss a council meeting Tuesday, but is being kept abreast of city issues.
Conyers trip comes the day after the city's bond status was downgraded to junk status.
"You don’t leave the council when you’re the leader and your city is in chaos," said Kenyatta.
Tolliver said no taxpayer dollars are being spent on the trip and that security will be provided by the host organization.
Detroit police Chief James Barren said Conyers requires two officers to provide security during her official activities and functions. In the past, one officer was assigned to the city council president.
The trip is being paid for by a pro-Israel group AIPAC.
"The only problem with it (the trip) is it's propaganda, and I think it's one-sided," said Councilwoman Barbara Rose Collins.

Israel/Hamas
03 January 2009 - 10:23 PM
The Palestinians have been the bastard stepchild of the Arab world for decades. Hamas knows this and will play this card to gain Arab support because Iran and Syria have fed them some nice technology via Egypt.
The rockets that have been fired into Israel are very much a terrorist act but Hamas does not speak for all of the Palestinian people.
Israel must admit this is a war about an election in February and they never will.
The US is the only country supporting Israel which says to me that AIPAC has payed off our elected officials handsomly.
Obama has said nothing so he is scared sh^tless which I figured because he has no foreign policy experience and Bush is a lame duck who has always supported Israel to my distaste.
Who is to blame here in order:
Israel for a political war against a gang called Hamas that does not represent all of Palestine but now 500 dead and 2000 injured.
The Arab world for not supporting the Palestinian cause except only when it benefits the Saudi's and big Arab players.
The US (and I hate to say this but it's true) must not treat Israel like a Democracy as they are a Jewish State and as guilty as Muslin nations that live and die by the Koran. Religious states do not work and don't give me this crap that Israel is the closest thing to a democracy in the region.. it is or it isn't a democracy.. and it is not.
Mayor Bloomberg is on his way over to Israel to show his support. Great, I'm glad there is another target on NYC for 09... what a d^ck.
Solution:
US denounce the killing of these poor people and get Obama to step up and say something.. ANYTHING because he is what the world is looking at for leadership and so far nada!
Israel is scared because Obama cannot be owned and wants peace throughout the world. That will never happen. The US... BUSH must call for a cease fire ASAP to show Israel the world does not support their actions.
In this day and age, Israel cannot just to decide to act without support from major players in the world especially when it leaves the US hanging out to dry.
