Notes From The Postgame Conferences

29 May 2003 - 10:32 PM

My thoughts on the game real fast: Devils dominated--couldn't have played it better. Marty would see more action behind Giguere than he is now. Elias looking MUCH better the past two games. Still want to see Gionta do more than throw the puck at Giguere. All is forgiven, Tvo, for now at least--don't blow your second(third, fourth.. etc) chance!

In case you didn't see, a few things that caugt my attention during the post game conference...

Pat Burns - seemed almost as bitter as I've ever seen him--which is why I really like him. He's about to win the cup and he looks so mad he could spit. He really wanted to really emphasize the 'don't count your chickens before they hatch' mentality. Warned it will probably be a different team they see in Anaheim. Was very upset anyone thought the Conn Smythe had been 'conceded' to Jiggy already. I think he really wants Marty to get it, as he did a bit of name droppin' on his behalf.

M. Babcock - had the gun to his head, noose around his neck, and jug of pills in his hand. Was probably one goal away from using any one of the preceding. Honestly, he almost made me cry he seemed so down. Very disappointed, and emphasized how the Devils didn't so much out work, as they did 'out-compete' his team. Said the team would have to start consider thinking about making some adjustments, which he blew off in the last game. Also got very upset talking about lack of team emotion... very paraphrased edition:
Babcock: '. . . no emotion about this game, and make adjustments.'
Reporter: 'What do you think of the lack of emotion in your team?'
Babcock: 'What do you mean emotion? . . . I never used that word, emotion.'
Very confusing, perhaps because he was so distraut. I could only imagine, his team is a farce after all.

Marty & Scotty: similarly talked about not counting the Ducks out yet. Scott said he was very impressed with their defensive effort, didn't want to say it was the best of the season, but certainly exactly what they want to do and continue to do. Marty didn't seem to care about the two records he tied tonight... mostly just cared about winning the game and getting one step closer. Said perhaps hell have more perspective when he retires.

(Wow its really easy to accidentally submit a post, aparently, so the second subject line doesn't make a whole lot of sense.)

The Matrix Reloaded... Reactions?

15 May 2003 - 12:57 AM

So I just got back from seeing it, and I think I liked it. I would recommend it to anyone who saw and enjoyed the first, for sure, but there's a few drawbacks.

First, the action is maybe TOO intense. I'm not the kind of guy who shys away from adrenaline movies(the Freddy vs. Jason trailer at my theater had me begging for more!), but I was literally shaking in my seat at times. There are so many action scenes that aren't just intense, but prolonged!

Second, the dialogue was severely overscripted. It lent itself far more to writing than speech. And, while I understand all the conversation about fate is necessary, it gets a bit silly, and obnoxious. I'm not here to listen to pseudo-philosophical drivel, I'm here to see you shoot, cut, and explode. Period.

Keanu Reeves in a mostly verbal role RUINED Devil's Advocate. Learn from that!

Sportscenter 'expose'

13 May 2003 - 05:51 PM

For those who saw the Sportscenter piece on Brodeur's marital troubles, I hope you share my disgust. Honestly, Brodeur may have done smoething he regrets, but that's hardly pertinent to his hockey performance--nor should it be important to the media. Marty has tried to react to this situation with class and tact--and not disrespect Melanieany further through interviews and other media outlets. What frustrates me, though, is seeing so many of these people continue to pester him about it.

Seriously--the mdia takes it too far. As much as I appreciate the tenacity of all news broadcasters to finally 'break the story,' regardless of WHAT the story is, I sincerely think that in cases like this, the wishes of the interviewee be respected.

Giguere And His Pads...

13 May 2003 - 02:33 PM

In keeping with my goal to turn this into a Minnesota form(because wild.com is severely sh!tty), I think this Giguere stuff is LAME!

Let's face it, Giguere takes up more net without pads than other goalies in the league. Former Devil(former EVERYTHING practically) Claude Lemieux questioned the pads just before game one of the Western Conference files. Of course, this was after the Stars had already lost to the Ducks. While Claude may just be making rationalizations--I really don't care of Andy Brunette's whining.

Those of you who know me, know I love the Wild, but give me a break! Gabby, Andy, Bouchard, and our resident kindling-machine Cliff need to go back to camp, and LEARN TO LIFT THE PUCK! Twice on breaks to the net, Minnesota Wild players had GREAT scoring chances, but threw the puck straight into his leg pads. If you can shoot with an extended stick like that, you should be able to lift it a foot or so over those pads!

Minnesota is just making excuses already--something they haven't done AT ALL THIS YEAR!!!! The players need to realize that Giguere IS human, and not impossible to beat. They are letting media-hype and numbers dominate their psyche, and not playing the hockey they've played all year.

Buy Me A Star Tribune Tomorrow!

23 April 2003 - 12:14 AM

There are TOO MANY doubting Thomas's on this forum. Ferreal. This has been the most incredible series I've seen, probably in my lifetime. Granted, I haven't seen a lot of playoffs series. Okay, at least grant me that this is the greatest 1st round series.

Manny Fernandez and Dwayne Roloson will carry this team dep this year! Their THIRD year!!!

What more better testament to Devils power can their be than the success of Jacques LeMaire and Philip Kuba in Minnesota!!??

On a side note, the T-Wolves win aswell tonite.

Does it get ANY BETTER for a Minnesota fan tonite? Hmm.. Game 7 of the Finals vs. the Devils? That's the only top for me, at least.
