  2. What's funny is that over the past couple of seasons that's how I gauge early on in a game about how KK will be. Every time I see him give up these huge rebounds early on I always get that feeling I am in for a long night.

  3. I'm with the crowd that wants Lack to start tonight in place of Kinkaid, that would have made too much sense. Will be interesting to see how Quennville looks this time around. LGD

  5. I mean, its pretty fair. People are frustrated with KK's poor play and want to try something new. Lack is an experienced netminder who has had success in the NHL and was a starter for short stints. He ain't a sure thing but it's worth a shot.

  6. Odd reason for hope: whenever KK's save% threatens to drop below .890 (it's currently at .893), he plays better...whenever he's about to flirt with .900, the opposite. So this should be a good night for him I guess?

  7. Not too many people around here wanted to trade Cory and go with Kinkaid, that's much more of a Facebook group opinion. I wanted Appleby to start simply because he's not Kinkaid lol

  8. From the 2011-12 season through the 2014-15 (when they played a total of 12 playoff series), out of the 8 playoff series that they won, six of them went seven games. In those 8 series, they lost a total of 21 games...just three below the max number of losses (24) you could have while still winning all 8 series. Their record by season: 2011-12 (reached ECF): 10-10 2012-13 (reached 2nd round): 5-7 2013-14 (reached SCF): 13-12 2014-15 (reached ECF): 11-8 That team just didn't make anything easy on themselves. And now it looks like their window is closed.

  9. I'm just glad that (hoping this is safe to say) we made it through the Rags revival period and didn't have to live through a Stanley Cup Few times it looked like it may happen. Was bracing myself for it. But they always dragged that series out to 7 which wore them down, they had that big OT loss, they had the speed but never the elite finish. Lots of times it looks like the stars were going to align but they never did.

  11. Re: Lack/KK...yeah, I wouldn't have minded seeing Lack in there, especially with KK being so damned game-to-game. Sometimes coaches try the "C'mon man, I believe in you, here's another chance" approach, in an almost desperate attempt to get someone going. Lack since the start of 2015-16 (59 games): .898 save%. I'm curious to see what he can do too, but yeah, I get the feeling he's not going to make that much of a difference if he starts getting KK's minutes. But if KK has another rough one, gotta think that Lack will get a look in Saturday night's game. Like I said earlier in the post, this might very well be a "You better get it done this time; I'm giving you one more chance" maneuver by Hynes. If there was someone ready to go with a more compelling recent track record than Lack, Hynes might've acted differently. LGD!

  13. If we win by more than 2 tonight this whole board will be "OMG HYNES FOR HOF AND KK FOR VEZINA". Some of you would be better off as weathervanes than hockey fans.

  14. LGD. Don't understand why Kink is getting the nod again. Zacha sat in the pressbox for lethargic play when his confidence was in the toilet, why does Kink get preferential treatment? Agreed with ACR^, Lack made too much sense for Hynes.

  19. Speaking of reminding me of Marty, nothing made me more pissed than his save attempt on Ottawa's fourth goal. Rather than trying to stay square to the puck he does some ridiculous cartwheel. I understand it was gonna be a tough save no matter what but I screamed out JESUS CHRIST YOURE NOT MARTY!!! Anyway, let's go Devils tonight. 4/5 wins in our last 5 would sound really nice. Hoping Q makes it hard to take him out of the lineup with a point or two.

  21. I never got that impression that Lunqvist has been hard on his teammates, but I don't watch a ton of Ranger games. I think DeAngelo is a special case. He's a guy that has legit attitude and arrogance issues, so I can imagine there's a lot about him that could rub even the most mild mannered veterans the wrong way. What I mean is that he could be the best goalie in hockey, but his cap hit makes it very difficult to trade him except maybe in the last year or two of his deal. It's close to the same thing at play that resulted in Giancarlo Stanton getting traded for virtually nothing. I imagine the Canadians are having the same issues trying to trade Price. There's a reason why the last goalie to get traded for a substantial return currently plays for us.

  22. They could probably make a deal work. The problem is that they wouldn't be getting anything close to even value.

  25. Bumping this thread to add this cutting-edge article from NJ.com from the other day - the carpool group of Pickles, Pavel, Nico & Jesper: http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2018/02/how_a_carpool_built_bond_for_devils_nico_hischier.html Snippets: The lobby of a Jersey City apartment building serves as a meeting place for Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, Pavel Zacha and Blake Coleman. Well, sometimes it’s also a place for three of the young Devils to wait on the fourth. "Nico is notoriously five minutes late,” Coleman said. The four young players all moved into the same building this season, and along with breaking into the NHL together, they formed an inevitable bond off the ice. "It’s like getting my parenting practice in,” Coleman said. "Me and Pav joke that we take our kids to work every day." When the guys stay in, Bratt said they usually end up at his place, or occasionally Zacha’s. The four can unwind with a movie or play Call of Duty on Playstation 4.

  28. Lack should start. But this has got to be Keith's last chance before being sent down. If not, I'm lost as to what Hynes is thinking. Yeah, I though Mueller was strides better than Lovejoy last game but w.e.

  29. Man, I didn't realize how much hate there is for Hynes around here. I don't think he's going to win a Jack Adams award anytime soon, but I don't really think he's made too many terrible decisions. I don't agree with his every move, but honestly, Kinkaid back in the net tonight isn't a surprise at all. Not saying I wouldn't like to see what Lack can do with a full 60 minutes - my stance on that is the same as it was when we gave Appleby a look - but Kinkaid has the most experience, and when your starter goes down, it's only natural that you give your backup a chance to shine. You could make that argument that we know what Kinkaid is by now and it's worth giving Lack a chance, to see if he gives us a better shot to win, but it is what it is. Hynes is more or less following standard operating procedure. Think about it, if he puts Lack in, and he gets lit up for 5 or 6 goals (not impossible, considering what happened to douche Lundqvist yesterday), he'd be nailed to the cross and we'd all be saying why the fvck did you put in a 3rd string goalie when points are at a premium this time of year. I know KK doesn't have too many fans around here, but let's try to stand behind him. Oh yeah, and really happy to see Quennville in tonight. I hope he gets a point.

  32. Corsica's, which I cited, doesn't. It's the only public hockey model now that DTMAH's is gone and that didn't model goalies but shooters. I can't speak for soccer/football. Moneypuck has an xG model but they don't model down to separate components. A piece of advice would be to swap your HD/MD/LD for xG unless you wanna look at raw numbers to see roughly where the distribution has changed. Arbitrary binning is far inferior to a good xG model and depending on the bins teams look very different. As an aside, NJ rank third in the East, 1st in the metro, since the Vatanen trade in xG (and IIRC 5th in Corsi%). So the team is playing well at 5v5, just need some saves.

  34. Mike is correct to point out that the Devils' defense has improved a ton from the beginning of the season when the team was awful. I don't know that it's one of the best in the league, but they are being pretty stingy when it comes to shots allowed since then. Everyone here enjoys dunking on him because he can't respond properly, and he's not quite fluent in what he's trying to talk about, but the defense became good right when the goaltending started to sag.

  36. He's been bad this year for sure. However he's still a quality backup. This is just a down year for him. Schneider hasn't been bad, but he hasn't been great either. He's definitely capable of being better, and we need him to be.

  37. Hard to believe it was only his second suspension. Even though he's been fined a handful of times as well. I think ten games was fair here and even though they would never admit it I think the fact that Taylor wasn't hurt and just happened to score a few mins later may have helped Burrows. Still a complete horsesh!t move that was just described and full blown MMA ground and pound on the Rangers/Bruins game. Imagine how a guy like Mojo would fare being kneed in the back of the head like that?

  38. maybe but that wouldn't be my take, as I posted just the other day I believe that togetherness and standing up for each other may not win you every battle but helps you win the war.

  39. You're getting a power play and half the game is left. I guarantee I would read lots of takes about how stupid it was for Greene to get involved if he had taken a penalty.

  40. Greene should have done something in part because of the score. Not very lilkely you are coming back from a 3 goal deficit.

  41. I'm still astounded how two officials can be standing right over this, observing, and give 2 mins extra! These refs absolutely must face a hearing. Anything less than 10 games for Burrows too would be tragic.
