Bottom line, its fine to get excited about a good start, but its 4 games. As they mentioned last night, the last time we went 4-0 to start a season was 95-96, and then we promptly missed the playoffs as Stanley Cup Champions from the prior year. I was at that Ottawa game, and I still remember being absolutely shocked they lost and I still hate Ottawa to this day because of it. But, to me, the encouraging thing is HOW we won those games, most notably: 1) The defense has been pretty good, with the possible exception of the Sharks game where they got a TON of shots on goal. Andy Greene hasn't looked awful, Severson either, and aside from a few miscues last night, Mueller has looked pretty good too. 2) The offense is getting it done without any goals from Hall or Hischier. Secondary scoring is something we lacked even last year, its part of the reason Taylor Hall is the MVP, he was doing it alone. 3) KK has looked incredibly solid and is clearly ready to replace Schneider if he can't come back at a high level from injury, or at dead least, to share the workload. 4) We completely dominated the reigning champs, came from behind to beat a 100 point team from last year, and also beat two teams we were "supposed to". 5) Marcus Johansson hasn't had a concussion yet. Of course we haven't played the Bruins. We have a lot of reason to feel encouraged at the moment. But it's nowhere near time to talk about whether we're the "best in the East" or whatever.

He just kept playing his game without frontiers, and it continually got him in trouble.

While it's true that there've been extenuating circumstances in all the Devils' wins, they're still getting the W's pretty handily. There's no reason the Stars couldn't've played better than this - they lost last night in Ottawa, true, but they didn't play all that well, Kinkaid did, and they also couldn't really get any breaks (except for Hall throwing the puck out). So yeah, team looks great 5 on 5 and that penalty kill is also quite good. I'd like to see Hischier off PP1 but I know that's probably not happening any time soon. Polak is garbage and Butcher's probably going to miss the next game at the very least. Kenny said it at the end of the game, there will be tests ahead, but it's good to see they are banking these points early. They will need them.

i very much don't think they'd have said anything because they don't have to. The tell will be tonight's Binghamton game. If someone is scratched from that game (think Yakovlev or, say, Lappin because they're going to put Santini or Gryba in and maybe sub Lappin for Quenneville), then you'll know something is up.

Yeah, but they're a team that's given the Devils fits at times...Devils were 0-1-3 against them over the past two seasons, which isn't awful-awful, but for whatever the reason the Oilers just had a way of making the Devils look bad. I was very relieved that the Devils not only beat them, but did so rather handily. Always nice to beat those damned "thorn in the side" teams.

Re: the bolded...the Rangers were dealt an extremely favorable schedule early last season, and didn't take advantage...that hurt them. If the Devils come away with 4 or 5 points in their next four games, they'll have banked 12 or 13 out of 16 points...I would've definitely signed up for that. Devils embark on a seven-game trip starting 11/30: Tampa, Detroit, Islanders, Penguins, Senators, Maple Leafs, and Jets. 7 games in 13 games. So yeah, after a very ease-in early schedule that will have seen the Devils enjoy some extended rest periods and tons of home cookin', things are going to change in a hurry. I would take a 4-3-0 trip or thereabouts pretty happily...20 points or so after 15 games (109 point pace) with the longest road trip of the season out of the way sounds pretty good to me.

The intention is the difference here. He was in full possession with no pressure and clearly lobbed the puck toward the bench... and even if the puck skipped or wtv and missed his shot... i don't see a logical play he could have done there that he could have been attempting... was obviously not a pass... or else he would have kept it on the ice to keep possession. He wanted to end the play to get a longer 5 on 3. Thats it. No biggie. There's no conspiracy against the devils. let's move on. And yes i played hockey
