  1. Scott Wheeler put out his top 50 prospects list for The Athletic. We have 2 of them. Holtz (6) and Smith (41). Interesting that he has Holtz ranked ahead of both Stutzle and Drysdale. 6. Alexander Holtz, RW/LW, 18 (New Jersey Devils — 7th overall, 2020) Previous ranking: N/A If you were to survey scouts for their own rankings like this, Holtz probably sits outside the top 10 on a majority of lists. I think that does him a bit of disservice, though. He belongs among the other names at the top of the 2020 draft class as well as the top non-NHL prospects from previous drafts. He has improved his first-step acceleration in recent months. He’s beginning to look more comfortable with the puck on his stick at SHL pace. And the other tools have always graded out extremely high. That’s true in the versatility of his wrist shot, which he can get off from his front and back foot, from a curl and drag or through his stride in a natural snapshot motion. It’s true of his strength and physical maturity. And it’s true, frankly, in his ability to make plays when the shot isn’t there, which has always been a little overlooked. He’s going to score a lot of goals in the NHL but he’s not a one-trick pony.

  2. he was in chat for the draft (along w/ mantz, sarge, guadana). he still lurks. not trying to speak for him, but if you appreciate how much luck and randomness is in hockey, you'd probably appreciate his point of view more. i still think we've got some of the old timers that lurk - there's just not as many posters with not a lot going on in the hockey world. i've certainly posted considerably less even though I'm on the site every day.

  3. Triumph was an awesome member here. Whether or not you agreed with his posts, he definitely added a lot and created discussion on many different topics. Hopefully he decides to start posting on here again, but I can see why he stopped being a regular.

  7. To his credit, he did call that Palms would be an excellent pickup, even if his quick-glance numbers didn't suggest that at the time he would become a guy who'd score about 30 G per 82 GP as a Devil. He also hated the Mueller trade at the time he was acquired. He was 100% right on that one too. He also predicted that Severson would be a star...can't get 'em all right (I sure don't).

  8. signing bonuses are lump sum payments (done usually at the beginning of the NHL calendar year which is usually July 1st or so), cannot be pro-rated in case of season shortening or cancellation, and are buyout exempt. that's why you do it as a player.

  9. I know the current environment is playing a role, but Pietrangelo got HIS money. There was clearly a “Buyer Beware” approach with Hall, and I can understand why.

  12. I used to read HF, but stopped a while ago. Just not a fan of that place.

  13. Yeah he moved over there some time ago. I've always had mixed feelings about his contributions. When he wasn't being condescending as hell, he did bring some interesting metrics perspectives to the board (even if I didn't always agree with what they were trying to tell me). But he was never an easy guy to have any real back-and-forth with. Even when you agreed with him, he could come off as contradictory. I'm a member on HF and I'd post there from time to time several years ago, but I don't even lurk there. It just never really sang to me. I simply like it here far more.

  15. Curious to see if Fitz does indeed have another Johnsson-level move up his sleeve, as was rumored. Assuming Fitz signs Blackwood and Bratt for a combined hit of about $5 - 6 million, he'll have plenty of room to take on a decent hit.
