All I’ve got at this point is given how much better they looked in general prior to the Covid outbreak (and how much THREE teams have struggled in dealing with the aftermath)...can’t help but wonder how much this could be affecting them...not that the outbreak gives this team a free pass for every last issue, but can’t deny that this is a serious factor. Just sucks that it’s already another “Maybe next year” kind of season. Seen a lot of those in the last decade.6 points

NBC just talked about how consistent Palmieri is so I don't think they've watched any Devils hockey4 points

I feel partly responsible for our terrible play as of late because I stopped MD2020's GDT streak a few weeks ago, even though we've won since then, so I'm making today's thread to try to right the ship. Regarding the game, I have no idea what to say anymore. They've just been bad all around lately, it's not even in one particular area anymore. The PP/PK still suck, but now so does the defense, and Blackwood too. They've lost all confidence and seemingly all ability. Sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom before you can turn things around. Let's hope that's already happened, and maybe they'll start to play like they have nothing left to lose, because that's probably true now. If losing back to back games in embarrassing fashion to your most hated rivals doesn't do it, I have no idea what will. I can't find confirmation, but I expect Dell in net today. I would really like to see Gusev get a goal today. Dude has been a huge disappointment this year. It would be nice if Bratt woke up today too - the two year contract he just got is starting to look really, really good, because I'm not sure he deserves a spot on this team beyond that point unless he really turns a corner (at least not a spot in the top 6 forward group, anyway). Let's Go Devils...3 points

Wedgwood has looked solid but they really need to get a goal first and actually have a lead, might boost their confidence.3 points

According to Amanda Stein it's Wedge in goal with Mac as backup and Murray coming in for Butcher. How Vats isn't sitting after the last game is beyond me. He has looked terrible since he's been back. She also said McLeod is taking warmups and Goose isn't.3 points

Here’s hoping the Devils that showed up in Boston a couple of weeks ago show up today and not the Devils from yesterday3 points

The only feed I can find is NESN and I might gouge my ears out listening to this Neanderthal string bean talk.2 points

PK was right yesterday - most of the time the are beating themselves. If they don't collapse under pressure and manage to make tape to tape passes, they have a chance against any team. Easier said than done for a team that's been rolling downhill and isn't mentally strong. Anyway go Devils...at least don't make it easy for ratface and Co.2 points

So hard to compare a fifth-year Q player to a guy in just his second full season in the SHL. Yeah right now it’s definitely easier to feel good about Mercer than Holtz...I just don’t know if it’s based on anything truly legit.2 points

Dr. Fauci new guidelines, continue to wear masks and whatever you do, DO NOT play hockey for 3 months after covid, its dangerous and very ugly...2 points

For sure, having met the “real” Chico on multiple occasions, he was definitely much more critical of the Devils (both on and off the ice) than he was on TV. Who even knows how much of the real Dano we’re getting? Admittedly, from Erika, I don’t mind her trying to sound enthusiastic and hopeful, regardless of how bad the team is struggling. But from guys like Sal and Dano, I’d like to hear some real honesty....I get that they won’t go all the way with it, but at least don’t reign it in SO far that you’re coming off as lying company men who can barely criticize what needs criticizing.2 points
-
I mean nobody has to tell Dano to be a homer, the dude is the real life Mr. Devil. I do think there’s some truth to the fact MSG wants homer broadcasts in general though. Especially when they go out of their way to update ‘the playoff chase’ when the Devils are twelve points back in late February lol. OTOH Chico was always ripped for being a homer on TV but on the radio he doesn’t pull punches as much. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body but he gets his point across, he’s even criticized Blackwood the last few games.2 points

I just watched the highlights on Youtube. One goal, he took it from coast to coast. On another, he beat his defender and the goalie on a wraparound.2 points

Yeah I’ll always be a big fan of Daneyko the ultimate lunchpail guy who was a part of three Cup winners here, but Dano the color guy is not an easy listen. He was never a natural fit to begin with, and he’s not showing any signs of growing into the job.2 points

You get the feeling if Boston gets a goal the Devil will collapse but I can't fault their commitment so far.1 point

https://streamable.com/0a3jb9 Wish we'd see more goals like this from our guys. Simple snipes.1 point

I agree. Who wants neutral coverage of their team? That’s why national broadcasts suck. Your color guy is supposed to be a homer. And people who complain about his voice being too gravely, that I don’t get. Makes zero difference to me at all, and I don’t know why anyone would care.1 point

Watched The Coming to America sequel last night- it was funny. All the old characters were back too, which was cool.1 point

I don't know enough about it to say for sure, but he sure does look promising. We could use a winger or two, eh?1 point

I know you can’t really compare the SHL to the Q, but I honestly think you can make a case that Mercer is our #1 prospect at this point. Especially if you factor in his two-way game.1 point

Dude, this one was the all time worst. I'm typically not overly optimistic and don't get ahead of myself on sporting events I have no control over but that team sleepwalked through the first three rounds + 4 games of the cup and after the Roy gaffe in 4 and the blowout in 5, I was sure this was the night we became a dynasty. To this day, I still think it took us about 4 periods of the final to get our legs after an easy ECF series with the Pens where Moose was their only hope. After finding ways to get the series to 2-2 with only half the roster playing in top form, when guys who had long cold streaks like Mogilny, Gomez and Sykora all got on the score sheet in game 5, I was so sure we were going to win the cup at home in game 6. Roy was all set up to be the goat. I packed the grill, full cooler, I had plans to stay over at my Dad's so I wouldn't have to drive home, took the next day off from work, etc.. We killed them for the first 10 minutes and Roy stood on his head plus the goal that got called back. Then the Foote goal happened...1 point

Coaching is fine. Sometimes the players need to be held accountable. They’re NHL players. No one should have to be teaching them to play hard and with passion.1 point

At this point he would have to be epically bad to not make the 0.5 PPG. Which he’s proven capable of in the past.1 point

I don’t know this guy, but if the Bruins have PK in their sights, let’s make that happen. https://www.thedailygoalhorn.com/nhl-rumors-p-k-subban-a-bruins-trade-target-tanner-pearson-on-the-block-maple-leafs-and-hurricanes-looking-at-mikael-granlund/ Maybe he’s banged up and he’s getting a day off? It’s all I can think of.1 point

We are sliding rapidly towards Hynes level "throw and much sh!t at the wall and see if any of it sticks" territory. Don't like the move to get rid of McLeod.1 point

Vorachek called out an HF poster.. Just copying and pasting my post from HF about this... I think there's a big difference of reading the regular beat reporters articles since he actually deals with them on a normal basis(as well as face to face in the past) and people who actively tag him on social media but coming on HF or other message boards is the equivalent of vanity searching. Maybe it motivates him to play better but it's definitely interesting lol I think this is a place where we come to actively vent our frustrations out about our teams to one another but the vast majority of us wouldn't be on social media directly tagging people with those frustrations since that is just directly insulting them. Just because most of us vent about a certain player or few here doesn't mean we aren't rooting for them to succeed.1 point

But it did. Once you used it a while, the layers of tape would get fused together and it was super smooth on the top and bottom. Only issue was playing in the summer, when a hard slap shot might make it less round because it was so soft from the heat. i also lodged one in a goalie's mask once.1 point

Another all-time gaffe that I want to strangle Conte for: passing on Braden Point for some dude named Brandon Baddock. And that’s one EVERYONE knew was indefensible. We were going nuts here that day over that. I mean, it was the third round. That’s where you go for high ceiling guys. Point was the pick. And we passed on him for a guy who we everyday Joe fans KNEW would never sniff the NHL. That one will haunt me forever.1 point
