  1. Add to that, you do have to show a certain loyalty to guys that decide to stay while your team is a dumpster fire. I would rather give a guy an 8 team no-trade list than overpay him or extend him for term beyond his usefulness.

  2. I would actually like to keep/extend Kulikov and Murray. Vatanen I would trade for a new Peter Dinklage cutout for the Rock.

  3. He was 6th overall in the NHL in goals scored for right wings since becoming a Devil. Was some of that due to his getting a lot of first line minutes, due to no one being ahead of him? Sure. But the guy was a solid player here for the past five years, and may have some more good years ahead of him (we'll find out if this year was an aberration due to Covid and other factors, or if he's truly at the beginning of a decline). He definitely got more hatred from some circles than he really deserved. In some ways, it's kind of sad that his time here may be over (not ruling out a re-signing

  4. Most franchises have done dick their entire existences. We saw more Cups in 8 years than most fans see in their lives.

  5. After listening to the latest 31 Thoughts podcast - it really sounds like Palms might be the "big fish" this year, especially since Hall's been hot trash this season. Hope Fitz takes advantage!

  7. Are you telling me that I'm not in charge of the New Jersey Devils? Well, I'll be damned. I really should move my thoughts over to a fan forum to discuss these things. That's on me.

  8. Definitely not opposed to a worthwhile player (especially a defenseman), just get the feeling it will be a middling prospect, as opposed to a right-now NHLer who can fill a need elsewhere. Keep in mind that the team that trades for him might view him strictly as a rental...and he's a rental who is not having one of his better seasons. I still think it's a second-rounder + some young player who might be mildly intriguing (say, a guy drafted fairly high a while back, but has yet to do a whole lot), but not much more.

  9. Palmieri isn’t just an average NHLer though. He was one of the better RW in the league his entire time in NJ. 25-30 goal scorers don’t grow on trees.

  10. To some this will be another chart that doesn't mean anything without the points to back it up , but holy fvck , he can't do much more.

  11. I honestly have no clue what the holy hell Kyle Palmieri you guys watch that you want to pay him 5+m for 3+ seasons. Where is he going to play? Kyle Palmieri cannot be on a 3rd or 4th line. He’s slow, he turns the puck over and he backchecks like a peewee. Do any of you think those traits improve with age? In any universe? Let’s say he gets signed for 3 years. There are 4 wing positions in the top two lines up for grabs. Sharangovich, Bratt and Holtz will/should occupy at least three of them during Palmieri’s tenure. Pavel Zacha should be on Nico’s wing but that’s fine if you want

  14. I think Fitz just wants to turn over every rock and get as much as he possibly can...and not risk Palms getting hurt. I understand him being as thorough as possible in this case.

  15. Nope. We need another second round pick like I need a hole in the head. Gimme a fvcking roster player or a prospect that may be able to contribute.

  16. He would also trade guys who could score for different guys who could score (based on who he thought would fit his team better going forward): Guerin for Arnott, Arnott for Langs, Sykora for Friesen, Verbeek for Turgeon (ouch), Turgeon for C. Lemieux (nice recovery), C. Lemieux for Thomas, etc. Guys who could score often came and went. But obviously considerable stability on D and in goal.

  17. I could maybe live with A if it was after the 12th inning instead of going RIGHT to extra innings with the man on second (and the reason you have this crap IMO is because baseball still can’t solve the issue of 3 1/2+ hour nine inning games), and I could understand B last year and to an extent this year with all the COVID postponements added into regular weather postponements, but it better go after this year. Don’t use freaking pitcher safety as the excuse to put seven inning DH’es in stone after the CBA finally gets signed in 2023.

  18. I don't want another Muller either but there are quite a few teams up against the cap that need to subtract before they add. If Fitz trades Kulikov, Vats and Murray (or one or two of them) as well we're going to be very thin at the back end. Butcher & Carrick are the only two D with any NHL experience.

  19. And two things I really don't like: Starting extra innings with a man on second. 7-inning doubleheaders.

  20. Do you need help? Are you obsessed about Palms? He is a hockey player on a hockey team. Chill Fans don't make these decisions. Chill, if you need help let me know or call 911.

  21. Yeah I get being cautious, but at the same time it feels like the Mets got screwed here...if MLB wants to play a 162-game sched, then accept that in the current environment, teams are occasionally have to play very short-handed and with call-ups. Three days off wasn't going to magically make it all better. At least the Mets finally get to start their season.

  22. We've had some other solid scorers spent parts of their careers here too...Richer, Mogilny, Arnott, Sykora, Andreychuk, Thomas, C. Lemieux, among others. Lou was never shy about moving most players (or letting some walk), so guys didn't tend to stay here as long as they might have for other organizations...also fair to say that the Devils history isn't as long as some other franchises, and some of those franchises existed before player movement became less restrictive and much more common.

  23. To continue that example, 202 goals would make Travis 15th all time as a Flyer, despite the Cups having come in 74 and 75.
    1 point
  24. Anyway, other than the A-Line for a few years the Devils obviously mostly won with defense and goaltending. Stands to reason they don’t have a bunch of big goal scorers throughout their history.

  25. For example: the Flyers have been around since 1967. They won back-to-back Cups in 1974 and 1975. That’s it. Nothing since. The Canucks have been around the same amount of time and have no Cups. Calgary has one in their entire existence. LA has two in 50+ years. I could go on. We won three. In eight years. Don’t take for granted how special- and unusual- that is.

  26. It just reminds you that after that era with the 3 HOFers and the 3 Cups, we’ve basically done d!ck for 20 years.
    1 point
  27. Eh, 3 Cups and 3 HoFers though. I’m sure lots of teams would trade higher goal totals for that.
    1 point
  28. I’m not sure if that’s something to be happy or sad about. Our franchise has been around almost 40 years and the third leading scorer in our franchise only has 202 goals.

  29. 13 points in his last 15 GP for Travis. If he’s one of the guys getting moved at the deadline, at least he’s going out on a productive note. Happy for him.

  31. The whole team should look at this series of games and take stock of what it takes to be a top, top team in the NHL.

  32. This team misses Nico so much. He is such a major component to their chances of success.

  33. Someone mentioned that he should be a penalty killer with his speed, and I agree. But Brian Rolston he is not.

  34. I also will never, ever understand the PP drop-pass in the neutral zone. Ty Smith is being hounded by a Capital player while skating through center, he gets past the guy and could continue the break-out, only to drop it right back the opposite way, behind the Caps player. WHAT IS THE fvckING POINT?! Why even bother getting past that opposing player then?!?!

  35. It probably will, or at the very least, won’t set a high bar for a guy who, minus one season, is a star but not a superstar. Palmieri, on the other hand, produced consistent results over 5 years at a very reasonable AAV, and Then dropped off during this weird season when nobody on the team is producing with any kind of consistency. I can see him having a valid argument that maybe you shouldn’t put that much weigh on this season. To some extent, Hall would have that same argument, except that he is paid much more and more should be expected of him.

  36. Yes, that's fair/reasonable. Or 6 for 3/4 w/ M-NTC?
    1 point
  37. Fair enough, you never know with you to be honest. It was quite a blunt statement so thats the impression I got, but that's the trouble with the internet. My mistake. And on the second point you can still show some compassion but do what is in your best interest. Fitz can sit down with him and see if there is anything that is mutually acceptable , listen to his views, but at the end of the day if the offer he likes best isn't the best for you then you have to do what's best for the organisation. Although that may be what you are saying anyway. Just more to the point.
