  1. im very happy with the win but this does bother me. It felt like last season these guys would run through walls for each other. Maybe I’m misremembering it but I don’t recall seeing apathy like this last season. It was common in our bad seasons over the past decade though

  5. It's weird...you see photos of these players hanging out together off the ice, and it SEEMS like they all get along well...but yeah, not the first time that a situation that called for someone to stand up for a teammate didn't lead to much of a retaliation. Maybe the next coach will not only preach that, but insist that Fitz go out and a get a player or two who won't shy away from doing it on the ice.

  6. Well, aside from the goalie you nailed it Second fewest minutes last night behind tierney. even miller who is also in Lindy’s dog house had a few more seconds. Fire Lindy I woke up with the Nasraddine “I farted and I don’t know if I just sh!t myself or sharted” face….

  7. Glad I stayed up for this one. I wasn’t expecting this but it was nice to enjoy a game like that

  8. This is great, we haven’t had one of these in a while. This road trip may have been something they needed

  9. It’s insane. I’ve never seen a coach fvck with his lines and pairings this much. Just the absolute definition of throwing sh!t at the wall.

  10. I know it's a flawed stat and it's falling out of favor, but Bahl is quietly tied for second on the Devils in +/- (he's a +9, tied with Miller). Fourth on the Devils is Hatakka, at +7...in SEVEN GAMES! But nope, Smith has gotta be out there, apparently no matter what.

  12. Also, Ducks are playing the night before, in San Jose. The Devils will have had TWO nights off. Absolutely NO excuses.

  15. Well at least the Devils FINALLY enjoyed a laugher against a dreadful team, instead of barely scraping by, or losing the game outright. At this point, talk to me if they’re truly right there with 10 games left…and by “right there”, I mean with a point of a WC spot.

  17. Jack finishes with 11 SOG Almost doubled up the next closest guy (Nico with 6) haven’t seen him tilt the ice like that in a while.

  18. Jack’s going to have double digit shots at this rate.

  19. Right? Had absolutely no real advantage on the play and decreases scoring

  20. I wish they'd try Miller on the powerplay more for that very reason

  21. Lindy is just picking names out of a hat to make the lineup at this point. He will literally try ANYTHING to avoid Holtz on one of the top lines. Lazar and Palat have a combined 15 goals. Why would they be with Jack?!? And I’ll never understand why it seems that every coach we have picks some random player who contributes nothing and refuses to scratch him. For Lindy that’s his Smith obsession. Sitting Miller to play Smith on his off side is just asinine.

  22. One has to have mind in order to lose it. 😉

  23. “Why wouldn’t you extend Tyler Toffoli?” Darren Dreger asks. Because he doesn’t have the speed or versatility to play with any of the team’s top forwards, and his presence is keeping at least one of them from his natural position. Fitz is looking more and more like a dumbass.

  24. Yeah seriously, how could they be expected to fly in their Learjet 2023 models when we’re rolling out ‘25’s soon? the nerve of some people

  25. This isn't relevant to the NHL but I found this super cool of the PWHL: Not sure about the playoff structure of top seed choosing opponent but the draft order process ("gold plan") would be awesome in the NHL, in my opinion. Instead of, what, 20 fanbases with vested interest in March (dwindling to 16-18 in April), you'd grow that to... 24? 25? More? Of course there will be a handful or so of "not enough good for playoff chasing but not bad enough for top pick chasing" teams but... that's better than today? It would also throw an interesting curveball to the trade deadline. I'd embrace the chaos.

  26. I've been on Bahl a lot but credit where it's due, he's been playing his best hockey the last few weeks. We know he's not going to contribute any offense but it was still neat to see him score on that absolute clapper last night. He's another young defenseman that's had to step into a bigger role (tougher minutes, more PK responsibility) due to the injuries.

  27. Did Lindy actually compliment Holtz??😱😱
    2 points
  28. Yeah that's how it often goes with a rookie D...especially as they're figuring out how to play 82 games against the best players in the world. The good news is that once this first full season is behind him, he has much more of an idea of what to expect next. There will still be growing pains, but he'll be better prepared for all of it. Also can't underestimate the (hopefully positive) impact of the next head coach. There's head coaches better able to sand down rough edges than Lindy could ever dream of being.

  29. I watched - the end result was a laugher but Daws had to stand on his head a bit in the late 1st/early 2nd, Sharks could've EASILY went up 2-0 and who knows where this goes if that happens. It's unfortunate the OOT scoreboard didn't give us any help with Pens and Flyers both winning in matchups you'd probably project them to lose.

  30. Yeah Luke's going to figure it out. Sometimes some fans second-guess the Devils "decision" to have three kids in the lineup, but they forget that Plan A never called for Dougie to suffer what's damned near a season-ending injury. And Fitz DID go out and get depth (Miller) prior to the season. I would've preferred that he didn't hang onto Smith though. Also think Hatakka should've gotten more of a look, based on what he did during his call-up.

  34. Luke needs to keep carrying the puck in on the powerplay. Enough of the drop pass, look at how noticeably better our powerplay sets up when he carries it in Bahl! With a cannon

  35. If this was any other team than the Sharks we'd be down 2-0 already. Team can't score for sh!t and you can tell they're going through the motions. Poweplay is pathetic. Puck movement was fine, but there's no finish and all they do is try the same thing over and over. How many times does Luke have to try a quick little fake shot and then a wrister from the point? Doesn't he and the team realize that it's his Canon of a shot that was successful early on in the year? (A la Dougie)

  36. We’ve hit the DBA Hynes “what the hell do I do now” face. Upnext is the Nasraddine “I think I just farted or started myself, not quite sure” face

  37. In hindsight, I think I agree with what you and @jagknife were saying about Lindy’s faith in his job security, as the same clearly applies to Fitz. With his new extension in-hand, he knows he’s not going anywhere, so he’s doing what he wants with the roster, long-term consequences be damned.

  38. Toffoli, Mercer, and Holtz....between those three, at least one of them should be on the top two lines....at a minimum. It's ridiculous to have Palat and Lazar on the second line getting more minutes than those other 3.

  41. Yeah, I came up with that term maybe 10 years or so ago. Basically you grow up used to seeing the same people on TV, or in your everyday world…and you almost assume that they’re all going to be around forever (even though of course you know that’s not the case). Then as they start to pass away, it just hits more and more how the people you grew up knowing and seeing are passing through, just like you, just like me. Now that I’m 53 obviously those “reminders” are coming ever more fast and furious. I’ve been to way too many of my friends’ parents’ funerals over the past decade than I’d like to admit. My parents are young for someone my age (they’re 74), so I haven’t had to go through that yet. But I’ve seen friends struggle mightily with it.

  42. As far as this goes, let me see Fitz actually DO this before he gets roasted for it. I have to see Toffoli still be here beyond the trading deadline, for starters; we don't know where the Devils will be sitting in the standings by 3/8. If they fall hopelessly out of it by then, Fitz can obviously choose to change course. My first choice re: Toffoli remains that Fitz trade him, so the Devils can get something back. It can never hurt to have more picks to use in deals to try to fill other holes in the offseason. If Fitz decides to hang onto Toffoli, I'll consider that the Devils "deadline move", in that you're basically giving up any assets you could have gotten to keep Toffoli around for the stretch drive. But I'd still let him walk after the season. The above being said, here's the specific circumstances that I'll consider "acceptable" for Toffoli to stay beyond this season: 1) He's only signed for a year or two, and at a relative discount. If he wants three years and/or more AAV than what he's making currently, soyonara. 2) Fitz has determined that Holtz is almost guaranteed to be a part of any deal for a goalie upgrade. If Holtz is no longer here, then there's room for Toffoli, as long as it's on a relatively short-term basis. I still think it would be risky to keep him; he's a guy who pretty much HAS to score at least 30 goals to truly serve a purpose, and if he declines even a little, it could get ugly very quickly. But if Holtz has to be the guy to go in a deal for a new netminder, it's not like the Devils have a bevy of young Top 6 candidates in their system at the moment. I'm not sure what other UFA types (or players available via trade) there would be to replace Toffoli and/or Holtz. I'd like to see Holtz get a look under a coach who isn't hellbent on sabotaging him, but at the same time, if he's got to be part of a package that helps the Devils find an above-average puckstopper (who will hopefully be helped by a coach who knows what the hell he's doing), so be it.

  43. I actually like Toffoli and what he brings. But he is too slow and his cap is too necessary to address other more important, more glaring issues. Reluctantly, he has to go.
