  1. I didn’t like the rumored Markstrom trade when we first heard about it but now that we wouldn’t be getting him in time to save this season or a presumed 2024 Playoff run, I want no part of it.

  2. We basically got a free future 4th round pick for the McLeod situation. It’s nothing special but when it’s virtually free, who cares. I’m sure Fitzy isn’t finished chatting with Calgary, too…

  3. Totally with you. I’d be down trading for Saros, but I have no interest in Markstrom at this point. Not unless he comes cheap.

  4. https://www.nhl.com/news/calgary-flames-chris-tanev-traded-to-dallas-stars We are basically helping Calgary to retain salary on the Tanev to Dallas deal. We didn't really get much out of this. We got a 4th round pick in return for retaining 50% additional on top of what Calgary retained. This makes me think another deal with Calgary is in the works still. It doesn't seem like the kind of deal that we would have gotten in on so to speak unless we were getting something else or working something else additional out. Something along the lines of "If you help us retain salary on this deal, we'll be more willing to make another smaller deal for Markstrom perhaps where we'll be okay retaining more salary". This reeks of more to come.

  5. I know it's a flawed stat and it's falling out of favor, but Bahl is quietly tied for second on the Devils in +/- (he's a +9, tied with Miller). Fourth on the Devils is Hatakka, at +7...in SEVEN GAMES! But nope, Smith has gotta be out there, apparently no matter what.

  6. The above is five-on-five production since Jan 1, but Nico has been productive ALL season: he has 2.78 points per hour at five-on-five this season. There are only 5 players (with least 600 minutes) with a better scoring rate: McDavid MacKinnon Kucherov Pettersson Seguin Oh, and that's all while Nico faces the toughest matchups among Devils' forwards... what a king.

  9. What a pleasant surprise! Thank you PK. I made it to 18 🤣

  10. Yeah, I'm all for saving bullets for Saros. The ONLY way I see Markstrom making sense is if Fitz is fully convinced that either Malek or Brennan will be the guy in a few years...at which point, Markstrom is allowed to depart as a UFA. But if Fitz is trying to upgrade via trade, I'd MUCH rather Saros.

  11. Now someone just needs to teach Bahl to use his size.

  12. Nice to see that Nemec is 10th on that list as well. And re: Bahl, always a positive if the solution is a guy simply getting more comfortable, so Fitz won't have to go looking for someone better (or older or pricier). Easy to forget that he's only 125 games into his career, and like almost everyone else on this roster, probably isn't being done many favors by his head coach.

  13. I know we want more but all jokes aside I think Fitzy grabbing a 4th round pick for absorbing minor cap space and an unsigned non-prospect (Brady) is a pretty shrewd move.

  14. I just think this was a chance to nab an asset for a small price. It’s still open as to whether or not Fitz makes of a “now” move, but the team is going to have to show him something.

  15. Def indicates Fitz and Conroy still talking about . . . something.

  16. Yeah, pretty tame for less than one season. More or less a "why not" which probably carries some "I scratched your back" in regards to Calgary, so they might be more lenient with a future trade

  17. $1.125 million to be exact. Less than what MM’s hit was.

  20. They also have money freed up due to the whole MM situation. The Devils are taking on a small, temporary dead hit to snag a mid-round pick. It’s nothing remotely sexy but not all that much to get worked up over.

  21. I think it just means Dougie isn't coming back so we're using some of that LTIR space to buy an asset. I guess it also means Fitz doesn't plan to be a big buyer at the deadline which is good.

  22. I've been on Bahl a lot but credit where it's due, he's been playing his best hockey the last few weeks. We know he's not going to contribute any offense but it was still neat to see him score on that absolute clapper last night. He's another young defenseman that's had to step into a bigger role (tougher minutes, more PK responsibility) due to the injuries.

  25. If he used his size with consistency and continues to develop his game, he could be Chara Very Lite.

  26. He's also 2nd among defensemen by expected goal differential rate so it's not puck luck. Bahl has legitimately been excellent over this stretch.

  27. Agreed 100%. He seems to use it only when he wants to...which really should be "all the time".

  28. After Diners. Drive-In's & Dives, I had to go up near Hackensack with one of my work partners so we stopped in to the one there. Very underwhelmed

  30. So 5-3 loss coming... late who gives a sh!t Smith goal under a minute to go, securing him firmly in Lindy's personal pantheon of greatest players of all time. LFGD Fire Lindy and Free Holtz

  34. Taking on cap space when we already have pretty little...does that mean we're shipping someone out soon? Not sure I like the sound of this.

  35. Definitely interesting. Really cutting it down to the wire, when they haven't looked like a realistic playoff team all season long. Can't rule them out til they're mathematically eliminated, but man they'd have to get red hot to make it truly interesting as far as not just treading water if they made playoffs. I'm still hopeful.

  36. In those games, the tough ones in my opinion are Panthers, Canes, Rags X2, Vegas, Leafs X3, and Jets. So of those 9 tough ones, we'd have to win 3 of them, which isn't out of the realm of possibility. But that means we'd also have to win the easy ones - can't falter against the Yotes, Ducks, Sabres, Sens. The pivotal ones will be against NYI, PHI, and PIT. Win those outright (i.e. no OT/SO) and that's a four point swing. Lose them, and it makes the hill to climb almost insurmountable. Should be interesting, to say the least.

  37. This isn't relevant to the NHL but I found this super cool of the PWHL: Not sure about the playoff structure of top seed choosing opponent but the draft order process ("gold plan") would be awesome in the NHL, in my opinion. Instead of, what, 20 fanbases with vested interest in March (dwindling to 16-18 in April), you'd grow that to... 24? 25? More? Of course there will be a handful or so of "not enough good for playoff chasing but not bad enough for top pick chasing" teams but... that's better than today? It would also throw an interesting curveball to the trade deadline. I'd embrace the chaos.

  44. And this year Brunette will be a Jack Adams candidate, while Lindy has embarrassed the franchise by metaphorically crashing his golf cart into multiple stop signs; sadly, we’re still waiting on the arrest.
