  1. This points DIRECTLY at coaching. DIRECTLY.

  2. Fine by me; I don’t want Markstrom.

  3. Teams who create and yield a lot of chances are fun… if you’re a neutral fan. As a fan of one of those teams, though? To quote the great Doc Emrick, it’s helter skelter out there.

  4. Nemec is the real fvcking deal, I'm excited for his future for sure.

  5. 4 games before the deadline: @ ANA, @ LA, vs FL, vs STL Have to think we need to win 3 out of those 4 otherwise it's sell mode with Toffoli, possibly Miller (I still prefer to resign), Smith... if Ilya Lyubushkin can return a 3rd round pick, I'm convinced anything is possible.

  7. Sounds like a name Connor McDavid would stay under at a hotel.

  8. Fine, we take on full salary, no Holtz. Period. fvck Lindy’s feelings, Holtz has a future, Ruff has a retirement home.

  9. Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin responds to MLB uniform backlash (awfulannouncing.com) Just stop...maybe you'd get the benefit of the doubt if Fanatics wasn't fully synonymous with "Worst Fan Apparel Money Can Buy". You have an absolutely sh!tty track record...own it.

  10. I agree. But if it turns out that Fitz really is THAT high on Markstrom and is THAT convinced that adding him can make a difference, maybe not wait until the Devils already have one foot in the grave before making that move?

  11. Hughes-Smith is still an awful pairing; they weren't good vs SJ, it forces one of them to play offhand and their five-on-five results have been really brutal: Outscored 2-12 (14% goal share) 38% expected goal share 30% high-danger shot attempt share And... Miller on outside looking in again? Stop the madness.

  12. It's so early for both, but I think Luke's going to be more dynamic and a real "highlight" guy, while Nemec's going to be a terrific "ol reliable" all-arounder. Love that both of them are here, growing pains and all.

  13. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like at times this team plays hockey for fun. I'm sure they want to win, but it's not always clear that they're trying as hard as they can to win a Stanley Cup. Look at last Game - we know San Jose is terrible, but the team clearly was playing different. Jack was a man playing like he's possessed. The team appeared to give it their all, and showed the offensive firepower we know they're capable of. Sometimes when you watch the guys skate, especially earlier this season, it looked like they were sort of going through the motions, or just playing in first or second gear. This team is so young and so skilled, sometimes I think they believe the game is supposed to be easy. This could also explain why they seem so disinterested in playing any type of physical game at all. They don't care about getting dirty and grinding. At least not all the time. Because again, we've seen they can do it. I just want to see them do it more often / all the time. Essentially, I want to see this team fvcking hungry. Battle. Go to war. Fight and earn the right to get into the post season, and, hopefully, win a Cup in the near future. It starts tonight. Obliterate the sh!tty Ducks like we know you can. Put the rest of the league on notice that the Devils are here, and aren't going anywhere!

  14. Also, for all the discussion around the "defensive zone tweaking" Lindy made on or around the All Star break, the Devils are actually giving up higher quality chances post-break (2.89 xGA/60) versus before (2.51 xGA/60). Their rate of actual goals against is lower, sure, but that's because they've gotten better goaltending.

  15. Yeah, those Devil teams from 1993-2012 were sure “boring” to us, weren’t they?
    2 points
  16. Devils aren't out of it by any means, but the margin for error is slim. A win tonight means we're 4 pts back of Tampa for a wildcard, and 3 pts back of Philly in the Metro. Both of those spots are up for grabs, and, frankly, are attainable. Just gotta take care of business. A little more luck on our side wouldn't hurt, it would be great if some of the teams around us lose, but if we win roughly 60-65% of our games to close out the year, we have a good shot. Does 14-5-3 or 13-4-5 get it done? 13-7-2 or 12-6-4 probably means we're a couple points short.

  17. This is an example of why to me a ton of this stuff is meaningless, or cute if meaningless hurts peoples feelings. That's not my intention in any way. What's fun losing, being out of a playoff position, giving up the first goal how many times, sh!tty GT, defense, coach, all with the GM hiding in the deepest of rabbit holes? But hell yeah we sure are fun to watch. Meanwhile 4 of the top 5 teams in pts (I stopped looking at that point) are dead center or even left of center. Those poor fanbases must be suffering and have no idea what they're missing out on. Wake me up when we're less fun to watch.

  18. Thought it was interesting for what was said earlier in the article. edit: I agree with you the choices are wrong fit this team. Loved how he pointed out what we know abt team . 😀

  19. The above is five-on-five production since Jan 1, but Nico has been productive ALL season: he has 2.78 points per hour at five-on-five this season. There are only 5 players (with least 600 minutes) with a better scoring rate: McDavid MacKinnon Kucherov Pettersson Seguin Oh, and that's all while Nico faces the toughest matchups among Devils' forwards... what a king.

  24. Markstrom's been up and down the past three seasons, leading into this one...overall he had a 4.2 GSAA for those three seasons combined, with a .907 save%...when you consider how good the middle season was (2nd in the Vezina voting), that gives you an idea of how meh he was the other two seasons. If the Devils get one of those seasons from him, not only are they now potentially stuck with his full hit, but he won't really help them THAT much. He has been hot lately for sure...his last 16 appearance have seen him put up a .926 save%. I guess part of his appeal is that he IS cost-controlled and the Devils would only be on the hook for two seasons after this one...not thrilled that they'll be his Age 34/35 and Age 35/36 seasons though. He'll never make mega-bucks while he's here, and his contract will be expiring just as it's time to re-sign Nemec and start to figure out what an extension might look like for Nico. I can't say that I'm sold on Markstrom, but if the price is cheap enough in terms of assets going the other way, and one of Brennan or Malek is hopefully knocking on the door by the start of the 2026-27 season, you can say goodbye to Markstrom. It still feels risky as fvck to me...heaven forbid 2022-23 Markstrom shows up here.

  25. I'm almost certainly in the minority here... but I want Markstrom. The Devils need a goaltender and that's been obvious for many years. And with all due respect to Nico Daws, and how solid he's played of late, he's still outside the top 30 goalies by goals saved above expected in the past month (while Markstrom ranks 5th). Saros? No thanks. He hasn't been as good as Markstrom this season, he has less term and will require a massive extension after next season. Same with Ullmark, if you're into that idea. Craig Conroy is getting boxed in by the day, especially after these comments by Markstrom, and just sold Tanev for a very mediocre haul. I think Markstrom would be a great fit the next two seasons, saying nothing of whatever may be salvageable this season.

  26. I just can't anymore. Most coach's decisions I can find some reason, even if I don't agree that makes sense. The Smith love baffles me.

  28. I agree, Luke has "flashier" tools and we don't always catch the small plays where Nemec is just so, so good. Dimitri also shared this mini-highlight reel of Nemec (he posted a 20-minute version too, if anyone's interested lol) but it shows how skilled Nemec is between offense, defense and in transition. There are a lot of "oh I'm glad I'm seeing this again b/c I didn't notice just how great of a play this was watching it live" moments.

  29. Devils playoff chances: - control their destiny over the Lightning. (3 games in hand, 6 points back, will own tiebreaker of ROW if they win all 3 in hand) - however they do not have control over Pitt or Wash. 1 game left against Pitt but none against Wash (so many wasted chances against them) going to need help from teams to beat Carolina or Philly if there’s any hope of taking a top 3 division position. just freaking win

  30. This is why I'm really hoping the next coach brings in a system that might be a little less "fun" to watch, but is far less chaotic, not to mention is able to be tweaked as needed, depending on how any given game is evolving, or who the opponent is. I think at this point even the players wouldn't mind a few less personal glamour numbers if they know that their coach is putting them in a position to win the majority of their games. I think if asked off the record, I've gotta think more than a few of them have no idea what Lindy's vision even is anymore.

  31. Yeah at some point gotta pull the plug on 2023-24, if the Devils aren't showing signs of getting it together as the deadline approaches. Sounds like there could be real competition for Toffoli's services, which is obviously great for the Devils. Miller's one of those guys the Devils could conceivably bring back even if they dealt him. Of course next season the D corp figures to be Hamilton, Luke, Nemec, Siegs, Marino, and Bahl, barring a trade. And Hatakka could very well be in the mix too...so even though I too would love it if Miller stuck around, there may be an opportunity for him to earn more minutes elsewhere. I hope this season is the absolute LAST that we see of Smith. I'm really hoping that Fitz and Fossilized Idiot don't bring him back and try to sell us on how "versatile" he is. Please god no.

  33. Went to the new Ringling brothers circus tour at Prudential last night. It's more of a Cirque du Soleli but more fun instead of artistic type show now. The acts they have are incredible though. The people on the flying trapeze were going essentially the same height as where the top of scoreboard normally hangs. Lots of incredible athletes doing stuff I can't even imagine, another guy rode around on a 34 foot unicycle. People flipping on spring boards high into the air on to a chair that's probably 25 feet in the air. One thing I didn't understand was why they had the guys who were clearly supposed to be the clowns but they weren't dressed like clowns. Just weird to me to have a circus and no real clowns especially with Ringling brothers history of having clowns. The whole animal thing is what it is, I get why they don't have them anymore but it really does make the whole thing just feel like another Cirque type show and that's fine but can we please not have this abomination of a black mirror dog used instead? Overall I still highly recommend going if you are into this type of stuff and don't spend a lot on tickets.

  34. The big problem at the moment is that the Devils have to get hot AND get a lot of help. I'm more to the point where I really need to see them force themselves into the race...and by that, I mean not looking at the standings every day and thinking "Well hopefully those teams lose and the Devils win", just to inch closer for a couple of days before the Devils lose and the teams that they're chasing win. I mean actually BE in a WC berth and in control of their destiny. Being 5 points and 6 points behind the closest teams this late in the year is a serious problem. Such a deficit doesn't look like much, but 10 days ago they were four points back of the Red Wings with a game in hand. Go back 10 more days and they were 5 points behind the Wings, also with a game in hand. If they haven't made up any ground in the last 20 days, what would lead me to believe that they're suddenly going to do it over the next 20 days? Hope they do somehow go on a bender and surprise the fvck outta all of us, but man barring a team ahead of them falling completely apart, it does NOT look good for this season.

  36. Pens shut out by the Kraken last night. Can’t ask for much more help than the Devils got yesterday, but of course at this point any hope of making the playoffs comes down to the Devils being able to go on a SERIOUS heater. Which of course is really hard to see them doing. What the Devils really need is for the Flyers to collapse, and to that team’s credit, they’ve staved that off all season. They play each other one last time very late in the season (Game 81 for the Devils), but by that point the game might not even matter.
