  1. This will probably get buried but I'm an architect and I helped design Hank's apartment a few years ago. The nicest dude you've ever met, but there's this one story that always sticks with me. We're in his kitchen with his wife Therese and he comes home from practice. He's wildly attractive btw, but that's unrelated. So we're mid conversation and he's kinda pawing at his shirt a little bit all awkward, he's in obvious discomfort. "Go ahead", his wife says to him. He smiles and nods and says "excuse me" and heads over to the kitchen sink. At this point I'm watching him like a hawk bec

  3. Back in 2009, when I had season tickets, the Devils has this goofy little area setup right at the top of the escalators of the north entrance tower (now i think it’s a liquor bar or something?) where they’d have stuff to do at intermission. Sometimes it was videogames, usually there was table hockey. Well this one time there was a fake play-by-play booth. There was a green screen behind you and you did color commentary for “Doc”, who was recorded, and you had lines you could read or you could improvise. Doc’s lines would also show up on the screen so you’d know what to say. I was pu

  4. This may sound selfish, but it means as much to me as it does to you. May be more but in absolutely other way. I rooted for the team for a very long time with the help of small newspaper articles. Sometimes it turned out to meet games on TV if I was lucky(there worked Russian commentators and they didn’t do well) or when we met parents friends in their house, they had Sputnik tv, where I watched my first games on english. I finally got the Internet, the first thing I did, besides porn, was watching devils games live. His voice was the first, he was like a father who told stories. admi

  7. I finally watched Zaitsev's game. And made a couple of video recordings. His number 86, he is left handed LD. He was 12 min 47 sec on the ice. He didn`t play in PP or PK. Zaitsev is a stay at home D with good skating. He skates back well, squeezes players out of the zone, and knows how to use pokecheck. He tries to cover dinamo`s back as much as possible, but at the same time he has a good starting speed, and in general he skates quite fast. He tries to play simply, gives short passes. He makes passes like this on the video. Short, and i can

  9. Makes me realize just how spoiled we were by Marty, who was so good for so long. Cory had plenty of talent and I couldn't have been more thrilled when he signed his long-term deal, but as we found out, playing well and staying healthy well into your 30s is far from guaranteed. The balance of the past few years with Cory was very tough to watch. Really wish him the very best...he's a good guy and a class act. It's very clear that his teammates truly loved the guy and had never stopped rooting for him, no matter how demoralizing his performances could be. His contract obviously made

  10. I just had an infuriating argument with a friend who claims that Henrik was better than Marty "in his day". I didn't need stats to tell me why that is so wrong, but I decided to look at some anyway. Here's a few things that jump out at me. 1) Lundqvist played only 887 NHL games. Marty played 1266. 379 more games. If you look at Marty's 21 years, he had a major stat drop-off in 2010, which is when his Save Percentage dropped from .916 in 2009-10 to .903 in 2010-11. It would never go above .908 again. If you took Marty's first 887 games against Henrik's 887, I bet Brodeur completely wrecks

  14. The Devils traded 7 games of Wayne Simmonds for what is now likely their best LD. He’s injury prone. But there’s legitimately zero risk, and the reward is a “oh holy sh!t yeah” type of reward. Phenomenal job, Fitz.

  17. The more I’m reading about Mercer the more I’m coming around on that pick. @MB3 might have been right about my bad take... I can admit when I’m wrong. But posting live durning a draft is a bit like a GDT a lot of stupid sh!t gets said so I don’t feel too bad. Lol

  20. Born and raised in NJ. My dad was a NYR fan. I used to watch games with my dad always rooting for the other team. When the Scouts came into being I picked them since they were new. Man was I elated when they moved to NJ. Prior I could only see my teams live when they played the NYR. I sure miss my dad and those times.

  22. As a young Devils fan, I was not happy to learn that Gary Thorne would be leaving our broadcasts. He was the voice I knew. Then Doc arrived and I realized what calling a hockey game should sound like. Doc and Chico were a near perfect team in my opinion, and I still miss them calling the games. Enjoy retirement Doc, and thanks. NY Post

  25. I love Doc. I had the chance to work with him for 3 weeks everyday during the 2006 Torino games. I was a PA for the coverage in Italy, and working with him, JD, Michelleti, Bill Clement, Ferraro, Pierre, Cammi Granato and others - was one of the highlights of my college experience. Doc was always so gracious with his time. I remember running into him on the street on a day off, and he stopped me, and was so excited to have found a hockey store in Torino that sold all kinds of hockey jerseys - he collects them. Anyway - he took out his map gave me detailed directions to make sure I stopped by.

  30. So funny Gallagher story circa 2010-2012 timeframe, can’t remember specifically which season other than it was on or just before the 2012 final run. I was outside of the Habs locker room outside of the rock cause I wanted to try and snag a few autographs. Galchenyuk (sp?) signs and the Gallagher comes out and starts chit chatting with a few of us. He asks me why I’m asking for his, I said it was cause he was single handedly carrying my fantasy hockey season, he laughed and said, “damn, I’m sorry.”

  32. he was in chat for the draft (along w/ mantz, sarge, guadana). he still lurks. not trying to speak for him, but if you appreciate how much luck and randomness is in hockey, you'd probably appreciate his point of view more. i still think we've got some of the old timers that lurk - there's just not as many posters with not a lot going on in the hockey world. i've certainly posted considerably less even though I'm on the site every day.

  37. It feels like he’s doing the best he can within realistic expectations. We were never getting a top coach like Gallant or Lav, or a top FA, but he’s made perfectly solid choices. Going off the board a bit with our #20 pick was a bit surprising, but whatever, we had 3 picks. Could be CBJ...

  38. Not to mention, if we catch lightning in a bottle and he actually is healthy next season and he plays how he’s capable (he’s been a legitimate top-4 defenseman on a playoff hockey team for a few years now), he immediately becomes one of the best players available at the deadline. seriously, if you’re a devils fan and your reaction to this is anything other than “let’s GO!!”, reevaluate your expectations.

  39. Absolutely. Love Cory as a person, dude is salt of the earth. If he retires, maybe he can work with the team’s media platforms. He did some guest analyst work during the playoffs for NBCSN. He’d be good in that type of role.
