Capt., I'm with you on this one. He has 3/4 kids & were settled in Dallas. The move to jersey was a huge inconvenience for the family. But, he has a different role with team, and burnsy does play musical chairs with the lines. Maybe the way the games played in the East leaves him frustrated. His whole career was in the west. So maybe he should finish where he started. I wouldn't be shocked to see us lose him (a la mogilny) after this year if he comntinues to be a non factor. vince

St. Louis (Martan) is not a very big guy either but has a nose for thew net. He is fun to watch. He's not much bigger than "G". vince

I think (in the minors) attendence is tied to success on the ice. They haven't been in albanyt that long, but they had no prob selling tix when Ftorek was still there & they won it in '95. Last year product was so pisspoor, no wonder they cant get anybody excited bout hockey. We have a good farm team here (Norfolk Admirals) & they barely put the team on the ice.And they've been good. Scope holds 7500 or so, they get 2500 or so on a decent night. When the team had the ECHL Admirals, place was packed all the time. Tix were $5. Families went & had a blast. Last year hurt the rats, hopefully they can stop the red ink. Lou did get players over the summer. (Darby,roche, hulbig, etc.) vince

No doubt! Pando cant finish a thing. He is an offensive zero. Why let another hard worker (bergy) who does have talent waste away. How this guys scored lots of goals in college is beyond me. vince

Wonder if Danton & Roenicks relationship will take a nastier turn tonight? They were barely on speaking terms after the exhibition game. Danton got under his skin big time! I only saw (rats) them play once, but I was impressed w/ Hulbig w/ speed & work ethic. he was on the 1st line w/ roche/darby. However, he didn't seem physical to me, & he's pretty big. Rupp, might be a sleeper. I think he is a good skater for a big guy, but is only occasionally physical. the reason I say this is he could put up better #'s if he had bergy & another stud on either side. The other person who I was most impressed with was Jokela. Played a strong game pp/pk time & worked very hard in practice with kinnear @ practice @ the rink long after others were gone. They were working hard on his skating. They were doing the Iron Cross drill & it wore em out. BTW derek, thanks for posting this update, even though its been here awhile. vince

I dont know if its between danton & guolla, but rather we're finding how expendable pando is. langenguollamadden seemed to be pretty effective. and bergland over turner. bergy would fit well on a line of madden & langenbruner too. vince

Couldn't agree with you more. Could you imagine if madden had a legit "finisher' with him, we'd have a potent 3rd line. I'd rather see bergland than pando on his line. I hope burnsy recognizes this. pando is an offensive joke. his defensive expertise takes away from madden potential to put a couple away. what we keep him cause they're partners on the pk?? than again, who is drooling to get him?? thought so! vince

I really think (hope)schwabby will be in there tonight. If they sit danton, because Guolla might get rusty, then what aboat corey? And I hope he plays well. Because if he doesnt, marty will see little rest this year. He needs game time, not practice. vince

why do you call this desperate?? we critisize mgmt often for doing nothing to fill seats, yet when they do a promo they're getting "desperate"? maybe its something they need to do often, & be creative. They need and should do anything to bring new fans to the game & devils. vince

1st went to practice @ our nearby rink (I coach, & son plays) watched practice. bergy last one off the ice, working hard to get back. roche was doing (skating) agility drills with D-men/kinnear. . he struggled a bit. he is big! Game, rats lost 4-3 (3 unanswered goals in the 3rd) few fights. Hartsburg, tko over Mike Souza. darby line (w/ hulbig/roche) played alot, roche got his 1st of the year. breakaway. No real bright spots on D. Jokela played well, got into a fight @ the end of 2nd period didn't come back. Matteucci wore an "A". Even Alberlin looked decent. Rupp-inconsistent. played well @ times, uninspired others. Hulbig- big. fast skates a lot didn't see anything there Roche- kinda clumsy but he'd be great if he'd throw a good check. Skates like a madman & backs off??? Bergland clearly the most talented there. got smacked in a fight, got a game misconduct.....yup bergland! Cloutier, birbrear, & cameron???cannon fodder. Vince

Marty was good tonight. Yes, it is true, Grande-Pierre split the D, (a la pavel) went coast to coast, & shined that baby up, roofed it. Nice goal! Marty had the bottom covered. On this play, stevens looked almost as stupid as he did when Sakic "deked" him out of his athletic supporter. Do you expect marty to save everybody's ass, @ every screw-up?? vince

If we trade anyone, it should be zyuzin @ this point. Whats the difference between zoozoo getting beat, while dano/albelin will be getting beat every night. Also, we haven't seen what the (arguably) 3 best offensive d-men in the league can do together, , and folks want to get rid of nieds. Calm down! It will be great if zoo makes the team permanently. Better yet, who is your alternative? vince
