Its like he’s penalized for not having those early years of his career where he just racked up points with no defense before learning to play winning hockey. He figured out right away what it took Yzerman years to learn.

I've given Fitz plenty of sh!t about the big game hunting stuff but given that punting another season isn't an option, I'm happy with the short term commitments we have with two veteran goaltenders. As you have said, hopefully we are able to develop a longer term goaltending solution during this two year window.

The Tkachuk for Huberdeau/Weegar trade has to go down as one of the best and ballsiest moves of all time, right? Not in the Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat kind of ripoff way, just that the organization was willing to make such a bold move and mess with the success they just experienced for a better chance at post season success. How many other GMs and organizations are doing that coming off a Presidents Trophy and Huderdeau’s 115 point season? I know I always pick on Toronto, but they’re a perfect example of a management group that would have never had the fortitude to mess with huge regular season success for a better chance to win the cup.

I actually think he's been really good for the game overall, but he's the absolute worst on these PR portions of the job...minus maybe "We have a trade to announce...I think you'll want to hear this.."

I'm still mentally scarred from watching Giguere win it after seeing him give up something like 15 goals in the 4 games I saw him in person in the Stanley Cup finals, so I hope McDavid wins it just so another fan base can feel my pain.

Sucks that the game winning goal was a muffin. They should all be like Elias to Arnott.

I actually don't have a strong opinion on who I want to win here but an Oilers goal would make for a epic ending whether its at the end of regulation or OT.

Yeah, but I think forcing him into their lineup kind of takes away from the chemistry that team has. It feels like a fantasy hockey move. I’m also doubtful how long he going to last on that resurfaced hip joint.

Where are you seeing that he’s 6’-4”? Not questioning that he’s more of a power forward and would be a good fit but I haven’t seen him listed at anything other than 6’-1”.

I hate the offsides reviews. As long as its close, I don't see why these need to be called back as there isn't any type of advantage gained by getting into the zone a hair too early. It's always another breakdown that leads to a goal against. The worst is when the offsides is like 12 seconds earlier and the defensive team missed like 2-3 opportunities to clear the puck after the offense gained entry. I always hoped someone would go back and find that goals like the Bobby Orr one were a hair offsides to demonstrate how dumb this this.

I think that’s intentional as people are typically home and it makes for a big TV night. Same way college basketball final is always on a Monday.

I was on a trip to Canada several years ago and caught back to back Ottawa 67's games while there. They weren't Devils prospects yet but both Clarke and Bahl were pretty note worthy. Clarke had a Michigan goal in the game I saw at Kingston and Bahl was just impossible to miss because he was a foot taller than everyone else and seemed to play like 30 minutes. Now in a matter of days, they're both gone.

Just catching up today. Has a player ever pissed away his career the way PLD is going? Spent a few years sulking in Columbus before quitting on the team and forcing his way out. Was supposedly a malcontent on a good Winnipeg team and eventually seemed to try to force his way to Montreal or LA. Finally gets to a place he wanted to play and they ditch him within a season because of how uninspired his play was. Now he's 25 and going to languish on a team headed for a rebuild. I guess it's a good move to own up to your mistake and pull the plug on the PLD thing while you can but there were all sorts of red flags around this player when Blake made the move last summer. The Kings should have never been in this position.

I don't exactly consider this "Big Game Hunting" but given what's available, I'm fine with the move. If we're going to get an older goalie, I prefer the super large one over the lighting fast undersized guy in Saros who would probably cost more and could fall off a cliff if he slows down even a little bit. Maybe Akira can pick up some pointers from him in training camp since they are similar sized goalies.
