Grew up watching Football and baseball for the most part. Dad won some tickets to a devils game in around 87. I remember liking it but I wasn’t hooked yet. A couple of years later I became good friends with a kid who moved from NYC (rags fan). He played hockey both on the ice and roller hockey. I got a pair of roller blades and my gear kept building from there. Eventually playing playing on ice for Cranford’s recreational team at the time. Midget B team so I wasn’t good. went to a couple of summer camps at the Ice Palace in Brick. Became a Devils fan that way. Already had been to a Devils game and had no interest in rooting for the Rags especially since my new friend was a wise ass and it’s fun to be rivals with friends.

I won’t lie I did want Gaudreau but I’m kind of relieved we won’t have to worry about the size of our top 6 yet at least. Bratt, Hughes, and Gaudreau on the top 6 could have been a lot of trouble against bigger teams. Still an experiment I would’ve like to have seen.

Exactly. We trade 2nd OA for him then he signs a 1 year extension and then walks. Same thing can happen to Ottawa. If we had the 7th OA pick I might consider trading it for 2 years of Debrincat and try to get him to sign long term. But not the 2nd OA. It’s too high of a pick. Too big of a gamble.

We don’t know if Debrincat would have signed an extension with us.

I was pissed when MTL drafted Slaf too and I honestly expected them to trade the pick. I’m much happier they drafted instead of trading it though. Maybe they could have traded down a couple of spots and still drafted him but there’s no telling if he would’ve been there still. Plus is losing out on another 3rd or 4th round pick that worth getting upset about? There’s nothing we can do about losing out on Slaf. It was time to roll with the punches and Fitz rolled with the best RHD in the draft. Now we’ll have a first pair LHD in Luke Hughes and a first pairing RHD in Nemec for years. They say getting a 1C and a 1D are the hardest things to get in the nhl and you can only really get them in the draft. Well now we have 2 1C’s and 2 1D’s. Through drafting.

I know that’s my point. He didn’t need to. He wanted to. He could play for the Devils next season if he wanted to. There’s no reason to just assume Nemec will need two years of development.

Luke Hughes is nhl ready now. He didn’t need the second year. Why are you so sure Nemec will need a second year too? Maybe he plays in the AHL next year and is ready to come up in 2024 when Luke comes up. Maybe he kills it like Dawson Mercer and plays a full season with the Devils next year.

I’m happy. Fills a need. I would’ve been happy with any one of the consensus top 5. Our core is shaping up to be very well rounded. For a long time.

Definitely. Completely agree about Okhotyuk. Just saying if we ever needed to roll with a big defense one night we’d be set. Still think Warren is a good choice with our 2nd if he’s there though. Also Mukhamadullin is 6’4.

Yeah Warren at 6’5 really has my attention and he should still be there. But I’ve heard he’s a real work in progress. Definitely worth the 2nd imo. Dougie, Seigenthaler, Bahl, and Warren. Our defense would be the biggest in the league haha. Even Luke Hughes and Okhotyuk are 6’1.

Have we talked about the 2nd round pick we have yet? Supposed to be a few rhd available in the early 30’s. Chelsey, Rinzel, and Warren stand out.

Upon further review I have to agree. Even the podcast is starting to lose steam for me.

Mogilny was pretty dynamic when he was playing with Gomez. Both of them really. But yeah I think Jack and maybe Luke are gonna go down as the most dynamic players in the history of the team.

Wouldn’t it be MSG who appoints his replacement anyway or do the Devils choose?

I do feel like it depends on what happens with Blackwood. If they trade him then we need a new starter. If they keep him then they really just need a 3rd goalie who can act as injury insurance. Blackwood and Bernier were pretty good before injuries.

I actually voted for Kakko over Hughes when we did this in 2019.
