  1. Wasn't Grabner also relegated to the third and fourth line, and I'm assuming not playing against the top pairing defensemen. Along with the empty net goals, it makes me feel that the stats are a bit padded. Grabner was also never allowed to play on the powerplay. Was this management or did the coaches know something we didn't? I remember when Clarkson had a 30 goal season.....lol. That having been said, I want him to prove me wrong!

  2. Per rotoworld:

The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that the New Jersey Devils have made a trade offer that would land center Travis Zajac in Toronto.

This could make sense as Toronto GM Lou Lamoriello was with the Devils for 28 years and knows their players inside and out. A couple of players have been mentioned in return including Nazem Kadri and James van Riemsdyk, but not both. Zajac had only 11 goals and 25 points in 74 games last season and has not been the same player since missing most of the 2011-12 season with injury. Stay tuned.

  3. They sort of did.

If they make the ECF, the pick is a 2016 3rd and a 2015 5th.

If they make the Final, the pick is a 2016 2nd.

So yea we root for the Wings haha.

Interesting that nothing was negotiated if the Wings win the Cup...

  4. Buffalo keeps the wheeling and dealing going- they just traded Enroth to Dallas for Anders Lindback.

I'm a bit perplexed by this. Enroth was Buffalo's 1A and they trade down for Lindback, a guy who couldn't steal the spotlight from a struggling Lehtonen? Peculiar...

I guess that makes Neuvirth the starter in Buffalo and Lehtonen in Dallas, although I would not be suprised if Enroth gets a bite at the apple early, and the reigns if he puts up a few Ws.

  5. I think we can all agree that this is a different season for the Devils. Not saying Lou himself needs to be scouting many different teams, but it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

Last year, it was thought the Devils didn't have a 1st round pick, correct? Conte should be busy scouting draft picks.

Here is another issue. Lou behind the bench changes the dynamic between player and a GM. He sees a more human side, and so do they. I'm not saying either party can't see through this, but I don't want anything possibly getting in the way of what should be done. What I mean by this is if Lou asks Jagr what he wants to do, stay or go to a contender, maybe Jagr says I'd rather stay here and try and continue to turn things around. This could have happened anyway, but now Jagr knows Lou on a more personal level and has more respect playing for him. It's just different than if Lou isn't behind the bench and calls Jagr upstairs to discuss his future.

It's also possible Lou gets so caught up in the team's effort and commitment to turning the season around that he doesn't want to make any trades. Just spit-balling here.

It's also possible Lou tells Jagr to pack his bags and positions himself in front of the elevator door...twirling an invisible mustache...stroking a black cat on his lap...while the sad Incredible Hulk music plays over the arena speakers...laughing at Jagr as he carries his box of belongings out the arena doors. A "don't let the door hit your a$$ on the way out" is heard over a maniacal laugh...Or atleast that's what the lawsuit may say...lol

  6. Do you think he actually knows the answer? How much more information does he need to gather about personnel that he can't get stepping back? The coaching staff transition seems to have gone well enough. If he doesn't think Oates and Stevens can handle it from here on out, then he hired the two wrong people. From all reports, Lou is basically a cheerleader and motivator out there.

Less than a month to the trade deadline, and Lou, specifically, needs to get a good look at teams around the league, prospects in the AHL, and since I don't see assistant GMs that are actual hockey people in the organization, it kind of bothers me. This is a big trade deadline for the team, and I'm of the belief the team would be better off getting some bodies than just draft picks.

The team needs Lou the GM a lot more than a back patter.

I'm with Tri on this one. I think Lou will be behind the bench until the end of the season-assessing the players, coaches, and the relationship between the two groups. It's reasonable to say he will leave after the trade deadline, but my bet is that he wants as complete of a picture as possible to assess the situation for next year. Conceivably the devils may get someone in return at the trade deadline, and Lou will want to see if he is the right fit for next year.

  7. Cory Schneider continues to make a case for being the worst puck handling goalie in the league. Lundqvist even puts him to shame. Jesus Christ.

Dear Cory, only leave crease in case of fire. Haha

  8. Not to hijack your thread, but I had a similarly unexpected run-in. Apparently, the Devils were having some special during Valentines day and a thoughtful husband had purchased the gift for his wife; my co-worker. The NJ Devil came in with flowers and chocolate strawberries. Best Valentine's day ever...for me. Got a picture and everything! LOL

  9. And apparently a lot of excuses?  That doesn't change the fact that they got drubbed early on in the season.

The Devils didn't play well in this game, but of course when you get 8 goals scored on you you've had a lot of bad breaks - Hornqvist's goal was the result of a broken stick, Craig Adams off a rolling puck, Schneider misplays a puck to give them one.  Rather get it all out in one game.  And have Clemmensen exposed as not an NHL goalie - that's only going to help in the long term.

Tri, do you think Lou should stick with the current D this year, or try to trade for a big body defenseman that can eat some minutes? I mentioned Tyler Myers in my previous post, but there may be others. Truth be told it will have to be done sooner than later, with Salvador and Zidlicky unlikely to be signed next year (arguably for the better). Can't have Greene and 5 youngins without having to go through some serious growing pains over the next few years.

  10. What a stinker. The PK is dreadful, and by that I mean lethargic, passive, and lets guys park in front of Schneider for seemingly 2 minutes at a time. The defense, while helpful on the attack, is young, inexperienced and vulnerable on their own end. Our veterans on the back end are equally suspect, with the exception of Greene, who is a solid top 4 defenseman. Zidlicky is an absolute atrocity on defense and if I see any more no-look behind the back passes I might have to start using all caps...yes, it's that serious. LOL. Salvador is salvador; i.e. a cone. More than a new coach, we need a solid, big body defenseman who can eat minutes-a Suter, Weber, Doughty type. Tyler Myers perhaps. I would not be surprised if a trade is in the works (for someone, not necessarily Myers).

Now let's see some more pictures!

  11. The tripping a player even if the defending player made initial contact with the puck is bs.

So I chase down a breakaway, dive, hit the puck off the attackers stick, but if I follow through, even if I got the puck first, and trip the attacker I'm called on a penalty for tripping. WTF?!!?!

I'm fine with this rule. You wiped out the player, thereby negating any ability for him to regain control of the puck or set up a teammate. There should be some penalty, no? There is compromise between the old and new rule in that you won't be called for a penalty shot. I have seen plenty of defensemen cleanly dive and knock away the puck to be worked up by the rule change.

  12. Embellishment should be penalized by a three minute minor. You heard it here first. If there is a corresponding two minute minor to the opposing player, his team will nevertheless go on the pp for one minute. This should take care if any and all incentives to embellish. It's a far shot, but I like the way it sounded in my head.

  13. Its not even funny how much better of a team Boston is when they don't sleepwalk as they did in the first 40 minutes. Price has been great tonight but there is some unreal puck luck going on for him especially in the OT.

While watching the game I kept thinking to myself that God really doesn't want the Bruins to win this one. Pucks going along the goal line, sitting in the crease, hitting a Bruins player after passing through Price, and Bruins missing open nets. Made for a terrific game. Props to price for keeping the Habs in it. Idk how much punishment the team can take as the series progresses, though. They were taking their fair share and dishing not much back. They should focus on Chara. If they can grind him and his 30

Mins per game down, the tables may turn.

  14. Tonight is a perfect example of the shot totals being misleading.  The Devils stifled them defensively, and the Flyers didn't get that many good scoring chances.  That 3rd period was a defensive clinic by the Devils.

I wouldn't call it a defensive clinic. They were holding on to the lead by their fingernails and almost lost it at the end. Wish they could close out games easier with a 1 goal lead.

  15.

Yeah, we need a GM making moves for that to happen...

You mean the GM that brought Jagr and Schneider to the Devils before the start of this season? Honestly, where in the rankings do you think the Devils would be today if those two acquisitions were not made by Lou? Also, I have no issue with Lou making only minor changes to our roster this past week. First, the devils are on the cusp of making the playoffs and there is no need to 'shake things up' for the sake of making things exciting. Did we need a scorer? Sure, but at what cost? The devils are not a a CUP team, and would not be a cup team no matter who they acquired in Ruutu's place. What is the point of Lou shipping picks and prospects for a short term rental? At least a few of these guys will be testing the market this summer and if the price (and fit) is right, Lou will acquire them for mere salary. Side note: I like what Ruutu brings as far as size and grit. The devils play a slower game along the baord and need guys who can protect the puck and throw their body around on the forecheck. Ruutu will do just that. That having been said, only time will tell if he will earn his $ (see past inuries), but that can be said about anyone. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he and Clowe stay healthy.
