  1. what might be getting lost in my comments that should be repeated and clarified — Mackenzie Blackwood is turning me into a believer again and every goalie is allowed a few duds. Tonight was a dud in my eyes. I hope, and think, he bounces back in a big way.
  2. Is the argument “He made one good save in the first period, he doesn’t need to make one of the 4 possible big saves in the second period”? Because I disagree.
  3. There might be fans who go out of their way to blame the goalie, but we’re fast approaching the other side of that coin lol. Goalies have to make *some* of the tough saves.
  4. ovie makes it look easy. haula’s positioning makes me wonder if he’s ever heard of Alexander Ovechkin. 5 goals on 17 shots for the caps. At some point Blackwood needs to stop one of the flying rubber things.
  5. This is a poor take. Hughes has been all over the ice. The points will come. He’s having a bad game, not a bad season.
  6. Why are you so combative literally all the time? Here i am thinking i’m engaged in what resembles an actual hockey debate on the internet and you come in to rob me of that disillusion holy cow.
  7. not that anyone has really stood out for a good reason, but this is a noticeably poor effort from Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt. It’s also a complete disappearing act from Nico — has he played this entire period?
  8. I’m….. not sure if you’re serious? Smith’s positioning was bad (because Smith is, uh, bad) but if you’re telling me that isn’t a shot that needs to be saved I’m wondering wtf you’re watching. Bratt sent a guy with a full head of steam on a mini breakaway in the slot. I don’t blame my goalie for that.
  9. right. but that’s his first noticeable turnover of the game, which puts him +\- 4 turnovers behind every single member of the top-6. you want your goalie to get that one. the bratt one you can say “that’s not on mackenzie.” i’m not trying to harp on it. blackwood has played really well the last few games. that’s just a bad goal.
  10. so has every single guy in red tonight. the result should not have been in the back of the net.
  11. jesper bratt are you fvcking kidding me?
  12. not sure how that’s on severson. poor angle weak shot on net. NHL goalies need to save that 100.0% of the time
  13. if tatar keeps ripping it directly into the goalie's chest, one of these days he'll surely score.
  14. Hughes is an LD, so he has no bearing. Nemec is an RD, same with Marino and Hamilton. Since the three of those guys seem a pretty good bet to stick for the next several years in NJ, it does make Severson a little bit of a man without a position. It's not totally crazy to have someone play on their off-hand, and Marino -- a more stay-at-home type probably fits that bill the best -- but the addition of Marino spelled the end of Severson's time in NJ for me.
  15. I think if you're potentially stunting the growth of the only shot-first winger in your organization in an attempt to artificially inflate the trade value of a guy who's averaging 12 goals per 82 games played since he's turned 30 years old, the front office and/or coaching staff truly cannot see the forest for the trees. Holtz needs to get the opportunities that Mercer, Bratt, Nico, Zacha, and every other top pick in the organization got. He's faster than Tatar, he plays with more energy and urgency than Tatar, he has better hands and better vision than Tatar, he has one of the best shots on the entire team. He needs to get more rope here.
  16. wtf happened to the caps? I don’t recognize 80% of those names lol
  17. Tatar is so dreadful away from the puck it makes me wonder what the staff sees. At least when Holtz has the puck on his stick there's a reasonable expectation that he'll put a good hard shot on net. Tatar sends little pizzas to the goalies chest and skates back to the bench.
  18. I didn't feel like looking up their ELC details haha. But fair -- my post leaves the Devils with ~$8m in cap room instead of $10m.
  19. Doing this because it's becoming more and more evident that I'll do literally anything to avoid working. Your 2023-2024 New Jersey Devils: Holtz (750k) - Hughes ($8m) - Pastrnak ($9m) Palat ($6m) - Hischier ($7.25m) - Bratt ($8.5) Mercer (750k) - Haula/Staal/Killorn (some short term older vet) $4m - Sharangovich ($3.8m) Foote (750k) - Thompson (750k) - Zetterlund (750k) Siegenthaler (3.4) -Hamilton (9.0) Hughes (750k) - Marino (4.4) Nemec (750k) - Bahl (750k) Blackwood (4.5) Vanecek (3.4) Puts our cap hit at 76m. Roughly ~$10m clear of the projected cap. Amazing how much different the team looks next year. I'm not looking ahead because this should be a really fun year, but next year it starts to get goooooood. quoted for emphasis.
  20. Don't even think you need to follow the cap to know we have room to get it done. Especially after whiffing on Gaudreau this year. Next year they will have Tatar, Wood, Haula, Severson, and Graves coming off the books. Even if it was *just* Tatar, his 4.5 is plenty to bridge the gap between Bratt's current contract (5.5) and what he'll likely get next year (8.5? 9?). They will have roughly $43m to play with next offseason. Of course, a lot of that money will be used to fill out big holes on the front (there are only 5 forwards signed for next year). But you'd expect some of the younger kids to fill those spots, and hopefully a free agent or two.
  21. "Stick with what's working" makes sense, but you cannot tell me that Tomas Tatar makes this team better than Alexander Holtz. And you cannot tell me that Brendan Smith makes this team better than Kevin Bahl. Palat-Hischier-Bratt Sharangovich-Hughes-Mercer Zetterlund-Haula-Holtz Wood-Bastian-McLeod Siegenthaler-Hamilton Graves-Marino Bahl-Severson Blackwood Vanecek gimme dat
  22. since you’ve joined the forum, the Devils have won (1) single playoff game. You’ll be coming up on a decade soon. People use forums for a lot of different things. He uses it to vent, and I don’t blame him. But I also understand that you haven’t really ever interacted with a lot of these members in a season where the Devils aren’t a total laughingstock, so that probably paints a different picture to you.
  23. i don’t find SH to be literally any one of those things you mentioned. and i’ve known him on this forum for close to 15 years.
