  1. Technically not after the announcement since it was yesterday afternoon when it was being reported that it was going to be official, but a white Pro Edge from River City Sports. I figured with the length of time he's guaranteed to be a Devil it wouldn't hurt to splurge in this case. I would have already bit back in July when the first contract was announced but I was unemployed at the time and even though I wasn't exactly hurting financially (unemployment was basically covering my living expenses so my sizable severance payout from my last job of 10 years essentially wasn't being touched ) I wasn't buying anything at the time just in case none of my leads panned out.
  2. Out here in the western 'burgh 'burbs (where it appears I got ~20" total), I was without power for 21 hours (4 AM Sat - 1 AM Sun) and without water for 15 1/2 (6:30 PM Sat - 10 AM Sun). Fun fun! And while most roads are currently fine, the only road in and out of my apartment complex is still snow-covered as of this moment and not real fun to drive. Oh yeah, we also have a new winter storm watch for another storm that's supposed to come through Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. They're not giving a real estimated amount yet, just 6+". I guess we'll see...
  3. To clarify / correct, this actually isn't a spat between DirecTV and Cablevision; it's a spat between the NHL and Cablevision. No NHL Center Ice providers are broadcasting MSG / MSG+ HD feeds (meaning Devils, Rangers, Islanders, and Sabres) outside the NY local markets even if they're carrying those channels. Very frustrating given that we actually were getting MSG / MSG+ HD for about half of last season on DirecTV before they were taken away from us. It just adds to the insult that DirecTV is (since they're legally allowed to and this spat doesn't extend past NHL broadcasts) still carrying the Knicks games in HD, for example, on NBA League Pass.

    F**king NHL & MSG

BTW, the Devils MSG+ HD feed is in fact on tonight on NHL CI on DirecTV. Tomorrow's Devils-Kings game is also supposed to be, but then next Wednesday's and Friday's games aren't currently listing the HD feeds, so I'm not real sure what to think just yet. I guess it's possible the online NHL CI schedule isn't complete / 100% accurate as of right now, but AFAIK it's been pretty accurate in the past... Edit: and then to leave you further wondering, the Shark game on the 15th once again does list the MSG+ HD feed.

    F**king NHL & MSG

There may be light at the end of the tunnel regarding this mess - if you look in DirecTV's guide or NHL Center Ice schedule, starting late this week (specifically starting Feb 6th), HD feeds for MSG and MSG+ broadcasts are back on for NHL CI. Now let's just hope this is info is accurate.
  6. I must say this game was most satisfying to attend in-person to get finally get results at the end after complete domination from the beginning of the 2nd period through to the end. Thank god for the 'lucky' break off of Gill's skate to tie it because I was starting to feel sick to my stomach right around that point that the Pens were going to steal it. The fans' reaction to the Pens finally getting a shot or two relatively late in regulation, even though they were still leading at the time, was pretty laughable as well.
  7. Center Ice is good enough as well if all you care about is during live hockey games. Edit: never mind - I misread that - I was thinking sports pack, not HD access. Yes of course you need to have HD access to get any of the HD channels, as well as the correct reception equipment (dish and receiver) and (imagine this!) an HDTV to actually take advantage of HD. ...and finally I can definitely 100% confirm it's live - I'm watching Devils pregame in HD right this instant.
  8. Confirmed - MSG-HD and FSN NY-HD both went live @ 6AM this morning. Tonight's game is showing in the guide on both 624 and 769-1 (in the CI channel block) as HD.
  9. Update: Dec. 5th was the magic day! I confirmed firsthand that I'm now receiving MSG-HD and FSN NY-HD.
  10. Notice I said I think the agreement would involve CV keeping their exclusive rights in the NY area, meaning they wouldn't be losing anything. It'd only be for people like me outside the NY market that have no way of getting FSNY-HD and MSG-HD anyway. Better for the Dolan's to get some money from DirecTV for people that Cablevision can't service than none at all, no?
  11. As was already said, no Devs HD broadcasts have been on DirecTV as of yet. DirecTV has already lit up a bunch of other HD RSN's in their recent, ongoing HD rollout, and definitely intend on adding MSG-HD and FSNY-HD if they can ever work out an agreement with the Dolan's to carry them. For what it's worth, MSG-HD's logo is on DirecTV's HD website if you pay attention and word is that it and FSNY-HD were supposed to have already been added about a month ago but haven't been, presumably due to an unfinalized carriage agreement. My guess as to what we'll see in the end? The agreement if / when it finally goes through will involve DirecTV having to black it out in Cablevision areas so CV retains its 'exclusive' claim for those areas, meaning you'd still have to keep them to get the HD games. Personally I just wish they'd get it worked out already so I could get the Devs' HD feeds because CV obviously isn't an option where I live.
  12. I downloaded and gave this a whirl a few nights ago myself. Not bad and it's even within the realm of possibility I may buy my first new NHL game in about 3 years. $60 is still going to be hard to justify though considering I actually get more quality gameplay out of some of the cheaper arcade titles, such as the absolute masterpiece that is Space Giraffe. <flame suit on>
  13. I personally hate the Pens but I'm still definitely happy that this is overwith, as I would have been very upset had they moved...
  14. I absolutely love it; it certainly makes for a great viewing experience with everything I've thrown at it - DVD's, broadcast HD, HD-DVD's, Blu-Ray, as a giant computer monitor, and all game consoles (with Xbox360 and PS3 games of course being the best-looking ); heck, even broadcast SD manages to be watchable on it .
  15. Yes HD displays are addictive. I've personally bought 5 already, though I only have 2 at any given time. My first was a ridiculously heavy (300 lbs!) 4:3 40" Sony tube set, which I replaced about a year later with a 60" 16:9 Sony rear-projection LCD set. Meanwhile in my bedroom around 2 years after that, I bought a 42" Maxent plasma at Costco, which I replaced only a week later with a 50" Vizio plasma (also from Costco) that I'm still using. Finally, this past October, I replaced the 60" set with a Sony SXRD projector + 106" screen. And yes I'm having bouts of upgraditis here and there on the bedroom plasma with recent price drops and how much nicer current displays already are since they were in August 2005...
  16. My last two system builds have been exactly what you're looking at - I've built my own Athlon X2 and Core 2 Duo systems (an Athlon X2 4400+-based system built soon after the Athlon X2 CPU's first shipped), then replaced with a Core 2 Duo E6600-based system (soon after the Core 2 Duo CPU's first shipped ). For doing just basic e-mail, internet work, etc., you're not likely to notice much, if any, difference between the systems but for anything truly CPU-intensive (gaming, photo editing, video encoding, etc.) the Intel system would definitely be quite a bit faster. I know that this is likely to blow past your budget but you may still want to consider a slower CPU (i.e., an E6300 instead of an E6400) and use the savings to put towards 2 GB of memory instead of 1, which is much more likely to give you a noticeable performance boost, especially if you like to run lots of apps at the same time than the slightly faster CPU would...
  17. Yep that's me. Thanks all....maybe I'll get back to chatting one of these days but it seems I can't be bothered recently since even though I have fun with it I'd rather just lounge around and watch the game in my home theater (which now certainly qualifies as one now that it's front projector-based ). BTW, any posts (where I'm still sporadic at most but much more active overall than here) you see from a certain Googer on AVS Forum are one and the same BTW. Yes, still in Pittsburgh, waiting to see what happens with the Pens given that those games are the easiest way for me to see the Devils live. Also notice I made sure to keep my post count down by editing my post rather than responding twice as a good lurker should do.

    El Toro!

Bump, I hear this should be opening soon as it's now testing. I can also now speak from firsthand experience that The Voyage at Holiday World is incredible, especially at midnight with a new moon (of course meaning that you can't see a thing) , and I suspect will end up being the better of the two rides overall. Edit: Changed URL for video to one that should work better for more people (though I'd rather there was no music myself ).
  19. I can't speak of other providers (cable, Dish Network, etc.), but I know DirecTV carried very limited HD games for Center Ice this past year. Now, by very limited, I mean on the order a single game per week, two if you were lucky. Obviously this is little enough that you shouldn't really let this factor into your decision. That said, in this day, with all of the big 4 networks broadcasting much of their primetime lineups in HD, as well as there being a good number of dedicated HD channels, I would think that unless you only intend on using this TV for a year or two (tops) that you'd want to future-proof yourself with an HD set. Also, if you play games, you can get basically unlimited HD content if you get an Xbox 360 (available now) and / or a PS3 (available in November). Just remember if you intended on doing that and you played a lot you'd want to keep that in mind when shopping for a TV, as I wouldn't recommend getting a TV based on one of the technologies that can get burn-in (which are mainly rear projection CRT's, and, to a slightly lesser extent, plasmas). Also within the next year the HD version(s) of DVD will be showing up, though even as an early adopter for this sort of thing I'm currently waiting this one out since I don't feel like possibly guessing wrong which format will win out and ending up with a $500+ paperweight if the player I buy ends up being the format that dies off . Of course even that is making as assumption that one of HD/DVD and Blu-Ray actually does take off as a format and we don't end up with another SACD / DVD-Audio mess .
  20. Of course I can; I think my last post was before the season started . Anyway, thanks guys! And I think I'll consider tonight's game (finally the season's first shutout and Patty's return ) a pretty nice present.
