well vancouver just took a 3-1 lead. so thats good

Yeah, pretty sure Vancouver will pass us. Knock on wood. We're likely drafting 5th. Pretty sure one of Clarke/Hughes will be available by then.

Well, time to take your fingers off of your nose and start embracing the stink.

It's unlikely the Devils will finish worse than Buffalo -- they have an even rougher schedule the rest of the way.

Seattle is guaranteed the 3rd best lottery odds, because the NHL is determined to continuously add superpower expansion teams for some fvcking reason.

The big teams for us to watch are Anaheim and Ottawa. Anaheim is tied with us right now, but they finish with a slightly easier schedule: 2 against the Wild (very good team), 2 against St. Louis (meh team), 4 against the Kings (bad team). We finish with 2 against the Islanders (very good team), 2 against Boston (very good team), and 4 against the Flyers (meh team).

Ottawa has a 3-point spot on us right now, and finishes with a handful of teams trying to make the playoffs. They're the other team to watch. It's unlikely Columbus touches us, they've got one of the easiest schedules in the league and a 5-point spot.

Great summary! I think the sweet spot for us is 4-5th overall. We're getting a solid player there, that's for sure. Hopefully, at least one of the big 3 defensemen will still be available when we pick.

Next year is an important year for Mac.  He's looked very good at times, not so good at others.  Hoping he's the answer, because as far as I can tell, there's no obvious candidate from within to push him.

I'm curious to see what he does next season. Young goaltenders tend to be inconsistent, so I'm not worried about him. The talent and potential are there, and he's shown great things in front of a sub-par defence. I think people sometimes don't realize that Mac has less than 100 games played in the NHL and has never actually played a full season (based on circumstances with the 2 COVID seasons but still). I'd like to see him in "normal" circumstances and with a half decent defence before passing judgement on him. With all that in mind, I've been pretty happy with him and his development.

I'm not ready to say that next season is the "end all, be all" season for Mac, he's been put in weird situations these last 2 seasons, and he's been affected by COVID in a pretty big way IMO. But the rest of his contract is important.

You think with Zacha, Bratt, Smith and Subban in the lineup tonight we're getting something different?  What, 2-0?  3-1?  I'm just not buying it.  They've been in the lineup for (most of) the past 43 games, and we've had much of the same as tonight.  Granted it's gotten worse as of late, but at last half of this season so far has been a complete sh!tshow in terms of missed assignments, no special teams, no one finishing, etc etc.  I'm sorry, but this team stinks from the top down, starting with every single person on the coaching staff.

Oh I’m not sure it changes anything to this game, but I do think that if all those guys are in there we’re better than Anaheim or Buffalo. That’s what you said so I was responding to that.

I thought Buffalo and Anaheim were worse than us, but I was wrong.  It actually isn't even close right now.

Before the deadline they were definitely worse than us. Even after trading away Palms and Trav we were a better team.

Without Pav, Bratt, Smith, Subban and not having our #1 goalie in net? They’re no doubt better than us. No doubt about it.
