Stop me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Mike Green a free agent...?

I will NEVER fault people for pulling out of playing. I’d rather them not give a reason, just say “nah, I’m out.”

All these baseball players taking this moral high ground crap stance honestly pisses me off.

what are they doing / saying? i dont follow baseball at all? But i also hate when people do that too lol

Sadly, that won’t move the needle. Big stars like Crosby, McDavid, etc., need to pull out.

i dont even know what i'm hoping for lol

All i want is to get 2 extra good first round picks this year and MTL, ARI and NYR not winning the lottery. The season being cancelled can really either facilitate some of those things just as much as costing us those things... we just gotta hope for the best

I don't see how the hiring of Ruff signifies what you're saying. It's like the owners have a thing for Ruff, Lindy Ruff, of all people? If they wanted cheap or the easy way out, Nasreddine is already there. Could it be, Tom, Marty, Ownership agrees Lindy maybe the right guy at the right time.

Tom is a smart hockey guy, been around a long time, he's done a good job so far. He knows everything about this team, even from being on the bench - he knows what's working and what's not working systemically, player wise, scouting wise, etc. So maybe Lindy has something this team can mesh with for the next couple years.

Well did you read my entire post? I explained my full thought process there, not sure what's not to see.

  4. What scares me the most is if this is the result of a bigger problem. Which would be that the owners are really trying to be involved too much and forcing their way on management and coaching staff and that the better candidates were like... "no i'm not dealing with this sh!t" on top of not having a really impressive lineup to offer just yet. And that Ruff was the most desperate to get a gig so he accepted it. Obviously i'm not saying this is it, i'm just speculating based on some reports that we've got.

We Know Gallant, Lav at the very least will likely be in the NHL next season. Honestly though... instead of settling with Ruff now... if possible i would have preferred to play hard ball and wait after the play-in or the season... see if any coaches get fired... if none does... that's putting more pressure on those coaches. And if they do get a job.. it means someone was fired, which could be a good fit for us.

I admit that is an emotional response, which is why in my followup that he quoted said I was trying to take it all in.

That is a come the F on over us getting Ruff, who I think we all(except MP8) believe to be only desirable above Nas, when the others were on the market. I still don't see how that makes me entitled, but definitely disappointed.

Come the f on, I think we all know he doesn’t really think that lol.

He didn’t use the quote button, he paraphrased what you said and then you said you didn’t say it.

For the record i didnt say i thought you were entitled because of this specific comment. I just go on vague memory from stuff we argued about at some point. You and SatanWTVhisname often get really upset based on your own expectations not being met even when it's not really fair.

I could be wrong obviously. But the way you phrased it basically "we hired this lesser guy when we could have got those better guys. Come the fvck on". That's getting upset based on assumptions, not facts. I mean yes they are "out there", but it doesn't mean "available" necessarily.

I'm also very disappointed that we're getting Ruff. But i don't get mad like we deserved better or because the management fvcked up. i know you think we're a good destination because of our young talent and all... without fan blinders... it's really not that attractive man. Our team looks like a mess at the moment and god knows about how the whole owners wanting to get involved too much, the analytics and all the bad reports about management not knowing who was really the boss or wtv could have scared away potential suitors. Honestly if i'm Gallant im gambling that a coach would lose his job after the play-in or after the playoffs and that i can land on an established team or maybe Vegas, for wtv reason.

And yes, im sorry if you took it this bad. But if someone say something very emotional and lacking any sense of logicial thinking... being a smartass and those reactions are my pet peeves. I will respond in a kind of sarcastic"condescending, rude, and douchy" way. That's kind of the goal lol

I quoted my post as well as yours. No where in it is the quote you've put in your post(which I have bolded). I never swore or even used a single exclamation mark. I was speculating on what might have driven our management group to potentially pick Ruff over one of the other candidates we have been presented since Hynes was fired. I am doing no different than anyone else and, if anything, was trying to be LESS emotional and more rational in my post.

Just because I didn't explicitly say that all three other candidates may have turned down the opportunity doesn't mean I didn't consider it, but don't hate me if I find it unlikely that all of them did and the only one willing to take the job was Ruff. If you think our management group isn't capable of messing up this decision then you haven't been watching this team very much for the last decade+. Unless speculation is entitlement, I don't see how I have been coming off as entitled. We're all here to have a conversation about the news.

For the record, I don't think I am alone in my position either since the only person I saw that is happy about Ruff is MP8.

I think Ruff still has something to offer on an NHL bench, but why the hell do you hire him when Galant and Lav are out there? Come the F on...the last time Ruff really drove a team into the playoffs was the 2006 Sabres...

EDIT: Also, I'll believe it when more sources or the org announces it. Not to say I don't trust Weekes but I don't consider him an insider.

So what were you saying here? Come the Fork on? Come the farmer on? Come the Freddie Mercury on? Come the Frostbites on? Come the fastfood on?  Come the Ford Escape on? Come the fox on? Come the fluff on? Come the Frankenstein on?

I didn't "feel" anything. Gallant, Laviolette, and Boudreau are all unemployed as NHL coaches, and so, are on the market and "out there" to be hired. As far as to whether or not they declined offers, you don't know the answer anymore than I do. I'm speculating with everyone else.

The way you talk to people around here a lot of the time is condescending, rude, and makes you look like an absolute douche. Maybe you should "stop and think about that".

Thanks I appreciate the feedback and will consider here. Courtesy would have me returning the favour.

You often sound impatient and entitled as a fan, and get very emotional based on your own speculation.

Generally when people see something like this and without too much details... common sense and logical thinking would lead to something like "well i guess it didn't work out with the better candidates and he was the best pick at the moment"

So when i see someone "why in hell would you hire this guy when these 3 better guys are available! Come the fvck on!?!" I see someone who didn't even try to come up with a logical explanation before getting upset cause they didn't get it their way. Like as if the management had those better guys begging for jobs but simply decided to turn them down, just because. It's pretty fair to assume that if we could have got those guys we would have or at least it would be fair to not get mad about it without knowing the details. Maybe Ruff is just temporary until that european coach is available or god knows.

Same thing with free agency. Every year there's the typical entitled fans going "our GM didn't even bother signing John Tavares!" when they see whatever top free agent signing with another team. Like... yeah the only reason we didn't sign Tavares is cause we didnt offer a contract. Not cause he didn't want to come here.

I'm trying to take this in. I think that Ruff wasn't the issue in DAL but I can't speak to his work with NYR. NJ could do worse(Nas), but why him with Gallant, Lav, and even Boudreau out there? Lets see what happens and whatever but this is disappointing. I hope I'm proved wrong. I just wonder how management came to the conclusion that Ruff was their best choice. How did that interview go to convince them of that?

Did you stop to think that who you feel is "out there" turned down offers? Why would those guys who were in the playoffs want to settle with an out of playoffs team when they could wait and see if they get a better opportunity?

it's like... "why would steve buscemi get wtv random girlfriend... when Alexandra Daddario or Ana de Armas are single?"

Maple leafs are lower then NJD. Enough said, list is sh!t.

Well the leafs may have a bunch of weirdos for sure in the stands but the Devils have an organized and celebrated Hey you suck chant from the crowd... it's cranking up your score quite a bit lol

hey guys, thanks for the info.  I’ve been pulling for the mythical scenario of getting a top pick next year from Vancouver, but I think I get it now.  Better to have the bird in hand, in a deep draft year, than one in the proverbial bush in a year that maybe isn’t so deep.

I have to admit that I am worried about this draft more than I have ever worried about a draft with the Devils.  So much is at stake.  We will not get another chance like this for decades.  With Hughes, Hischier, and the new players and picks we’ve gotten in trades this will either make or break the franchise for years.  If we draft a bunch of busts then we’ll have traded away solid assets for squadoosh.  If the FO hits a few homeruns we could return to our rightful place as a league powerhouse, lording over the Ragdolls.  I would so love that....

So if anyone in the Devil’s FO is reading this: You just have our hearts in your hand and failure will mean seeing something we love turned into drek.  So no pressure or anything....

Well there's just no way to know really. Look at Ottawa... they made trade thinking it would be for the best and they ended last in the league and Colorado got Byram out of that pick (4th overall)... and then they traded with the Sharks and got their first round pick. Not thinking it would be that good but then they got a top 5 pick out of it. You just never know. So we MIGHT get a better player from Arizona or Vancouver in the next draft but who knows. On paper it would be better to have a guy sooner that can potentially join the lineup sooner. And taken from a deep draft but again, who the hell knows

  11. I truly wish they would have shown such blind desperation to get back to hockey like they are now when we've lost full of half seasons due to lockouts because they were playing tug-war and pinching pennies. It's all about the money at the end of the day.

They have a top notch goalie, and one of the best players on the planet. Crazier things have happened.

I don’t think they will win the Cup either, and you’re right their chance at #1 is much better, but I disagree there’s “absolutely no shot.” If Shestyorkin went on an insane run (like Binnington or MAF) I’d be pretty damn worried.

This also isn’t your typical year, so who knows what to expect...

Still, this is a few weeks. One run. I mean... hell if they'd win a cup it would suck but then they'd always have that * next to it. Them landing a top player that will make their team better for another 10+ years would be a pain in the ass for a long time. Plus they landed Kakko and a good young goalie so they are building a good young core.

  13. i mean the Rangers have absolutely no shot at winning the cup. I know a lot of you guys believe in the whole "once you're in you never know" but come on lol

It's way safer to hope for them making the playoff than having a shot at landing a top prospect. they have a WAY better chance at winning first overall or getting a good prospect by picking earlier this year than making it all the way
