Rust aside, it didn't look like Hall was skating as well as before.

Money isn’t going to be the issue here. He’ll get it wherever he goes, and he’ll get 7 years anywhere else he goes other than here.
It’s a pure decision of where he wants to stare at his girlfriend’s ass.
Of course money won't be an issue. I'm just speculating what his contract will look like if he decides to re-sign.

Hall's comparables are Panarin (7x11.64), Seguin (8x 9.85), and Tavares (7x11). If I had to guess, I'd bet he gets 8 x11.5
-
Do you guys think they should have brought back Myers at that price tag?
-
I know ownership and Shero have stated they want to get Hall done but I wonder if they aren't comfortable giving Hall a high AAV (11+) or term (7-8 years) until they see how he looks next year.

Rendon is nuts but I'm just so impressed with Juan Soto. He has a .925 OPS at 20 years old , with some speed. His knowledge of the strike zone is freakish for someone his age

Fess up, people. Where are the bozos who called ownership cheap? Probably the same ones who cried about the YS chant

Ok, I don't mean to laugh at your collective pain as Mets fans, but holy hell this thread is comedic gold. The ****** Mets, man.

i believe you can have a 5 years window where you give 4 picks if you do not have one of them. i think i read that somewhere
That's only if you're going to the top tier of RFA signings, where four 1sts is the compensation

If they don’t match anyone, it seems like it would be Laine. Sounds as if they’ve really soured on him.
Laine will command a much higher AAV, thus taking us out of the running because we don't have our second

Does Winnipeg match at 5 year, 6.2 million dollar offer sheet for Kyle Connor? Compensation is a first and a third

as i think about it more, it's basically maroon 2.0 and since it's one year, the over pay doesn't really matter.
at worst, it's a 3rd or a 4th round pick at the deadline if the devils are out of it again this year.
Yeah, don't love Simmonds at this point in his career, but I think it's reasonable to expect 17-20 goals, one of the best net front PP guys, and some #grit. Devils need goals, #grit, and #leadership.

PP 1:
Hall (left boards)-Simmonds (net front)-Hughes (right boards
Palmieri-Subban

I think this is the year that Pittsburgh misses the playoffs too.
Right- who knows what the Flyers are; does Aho move on? Do Ovechkin/Backstrom lose a step?
I mean, this division is wide open.

Here is the way I'm looking at the Panarin thing. He pretty much ****** Columbus and left the Isles high and dry. The way the Rangers get their UFAs, it was only a matter of time before they got another similar UFA, whether it be Hall next year, etc. etc. The reason I bring that up is, with good/great NHLers knocking down the door to play for that sh!t franchise, they were likely to be good anyway. The Islanders were smoke and mirrors last year due to insane goaltending that will not be repeated. They are not a good team and Panarin would obviously make them more "real". Columbus is about to lose their #1C (Duchene), best player (Panarin), top 3 goalie in the league (Bobrovsky), and middle six forward (Dzingel). Yes, they have some pieces in Jones, Werenski, and Dubois, but they are going to be pretty bad. 2 teams in the division got a lot worse.

Devils have money coming off pretty soon too...Greene is done after this season, Zajac comes off after next season, Cory is done after 2021-22. The only player currently signed beyond 2022 is Severson. They don't have a single albatross contract, and even though PK is obviously expensive per-year, it's only for three more seasons.
Of course this will change soon (starting with Hall, who I think re-signs), but man did Shero do a hell of a job creating incredible cap flexibility.
Yeah, this post seems to hit it on the head. It's not like they're losing a ton of top end talent from the roster either. Their replacements in the lineup should come much cheaper:
Greene- 3LD
Zajac- 3C
Cory- 1B at best by that point
Vatanen- 2/3 RD

Also Vatanen's ~5 mill next year.

This might be a question for someone like @Triumph, but does this prevent the Devils from bringing in a 2nd line winger like Nyquist for 5 years, 5.5 million? With Hall, Hischier, Bratt, and Butcher coming up, I don't want to get spending happy.
-
In terms of the trade, NJ got a #1 for peanuts. An underrated part of this deal is that his contract expires right when Hughes is coming off his ELC, so it's easy to see where Hughes' money will come from. Ray is doing what he should and is really going for it during JH's and Ty Smith's ELCs.
Lastly, I think PK is really going to relish being THE guy on the backend as opposed to just another cog in Nashville. He seems to enjoy the challenge and attention.

Devils need to find a way to move Vatanen out for a top 4 LD. Obviously NJ might need to add a bit, but I don't see the point of Vatanen playing on the third pair, and he shouldnt see PP time with PK, Butcher, and Smith on the team

Hallsy gonna sign for 7 yearsx10.5 on July 1 baby
Ray Shero and Devils Part Ways Effective Immediately

Man, this is a weird one.
On one hand, I think Shero has done much more positive than negative. We don't need to rehash the what state of the Devils and the barren prospect pool when he took over in 2015. Obviously the acquisitions of Hall and Palmieri are the highlights here. I'm not going to kill him for Subban, Simmonds, and the goaltending situation because I was cool with decisions in the summer. These were fine calculated risks that haven't panned out.
Let's face it, we don't know the whole story here. This is obviously speculation on my part, but I can't believe the owners were happy that Hall left without even discussing numbers. Maybe the agent flat out told Shero he wasn't staying so it'd be a waste of time, but considering the strong statements Harris and Blitzer made in '18 about being so fervent about extending Hall - it doesn't look good. I am in the belief Shero did the right thing in trading him, but again, optics and all that.
If this is a philosophical decision and Shero wanted to blow it up again, as speculated, then this is the right move. Obviously you sell off UFAs when you're out of it but eventually, you have to keep some of your UFAs. If Palmieri was the line in the sand, then I'm glad this decision was made. Local kid, good leader, has a skillset that shouldn't diminish too badly in his 30s. If you're Hughes and Nico and you hear rumors that the team is looking to move KP a year before his deal is up, what kind of message does that send? Sure doesn't seem like you're committed to winning in the short term. I've been pro-tank for years but enough is enough. This young core has to now figure out how to win. It's why I'm not upset over these seemingly meaningless wins against Washington and TB.
